No official beta date's have ever been posted, but their internal beta date target have been 2003 at first, later it was 2005, and last year they said 2006. Currently their internal target date is this summer, so it's looking to be another delay.

The last dev. jounal hinted at some kind of news next journal on the subject...or not :)

We'll probably see tonight/tomorrow if anything is reveiled.

If they are so close to Beta, how come they have not shown it at any of the shows?  Leipzig was just a few weeks ago, if they had anything close to a product they would have been showing it there.  So what did we see, nada.

If we see Beta before summer of 08 I would be surprised.  Remember this is not a large team they have working on this.  If they are going to put a good product out, they should take their time.   Better to wait for something good than throw a troubled program out there like Vanguard.  Nothing worse than dooming the game on initial release.  History has shown that people will not revisit a game if they have had a bad experience with it.

Look on the bright side... the more it's delayed, the LESS likely it'll have a release like Vanguard, EQ2, or many of the other notoriously-launched MMO's.

Then it won't take a year to fix the game like VG and EQ2 required, because they'll fix it BEFORE release.

On August 2, 2007, Aventurine stated that although the game is technically ready for beta, beta will not start until negotiations with possible publishers are completed          enough said

Yeah.. the more delays, the more likely it wont be released at all... and eq2 was never in the shape vangaurd was in, eq2 just tried to hard to please everyone and in the end pleased no one.

That makes absolutely no sense. The more delays, the more likely it wont be released at all?

So a bunch of developers will throw away (what is it, 6?) years of work just because of a few additional delays?

Oh yes, you're right, I can see it now.

Developer #1 : We've had 205 delays, but this 206th one is too much.

Developer #2: You're right, we've stuck it through this long, pouring our hearts and souls and countless hours into this game, it's time to just randomly give up because DeserttFoxx at mmorpg.com said so. I heard he is always right.

Developer #3: Yes, DeserttFoxx IS right, it's time to trash 6 years of hard work because of the 206th delay, despite the fact we didn't give up on the first 205 delays or the 6+ years of hard labor.

Producer: Oh wait, we're no longer delayed! It actually was only 205! The game released! ........guys?

Developers: We're dead because we already shot ourselves because we wasted our lives making a game and couldn't handle the depression of canceling it, despite the fact it was illogical to cancel it and against everything we stand for and desire. We also deleted the entire game and burned our computers in effigy because THAT ALSO makes complete and total sense. DeserttFoxx is right. *END*

I'm not usually a mean person, but have you gotten out of Junior High yet? It doesn't work like that. The longer they delay, the more money has to be poured into it, the further the hype goes down, etc. Not showing at GC was a mistake as well. How the hell do they expect their game to pick up a good publisher without ever even trying to catch the eyes of the public. 'Cause, you know, MMOs need "people" to survive.

By your logic, they could release the game any which time they wanted and it would automatically get hundreds of thousands of players who would all be mature. In reality though, if they release too late they'll have like 500 accounts, and they'll all be the DF fan boys who followed it forever, praising it like the bloody messiah.

In case you have the level of education that you display. Too late = Can't launch game.

No Show to Public = Small Fan base.

Small fan base = uninterested publishers.

Uninterested publishers = Forced self publish (Expensive).

Small fan base also = game failure.

It's called "running out of money". DesertFoxx is right. No publisher in their right mind would touch this with a 300 foot pole. Heck, I wonder why $OE hasn't picked it up yet! rofl

Another B-List (heck, C-List) budget, trying to turn out an A-List game.

It is not fair to trash AoC/Funcom just because they delayed their game 4 times since 2006 and are only worth half now of what they were worth in july. And really, you should use the AoC forum for this, not DF forum

Yep, any game that stays in development for too long risks dying for lack of money.

    Exhibit A: Trials of Ascension

I really hope they manage to pull this one out though...

    2006 vs. 2003? hmmmm.

Any point to this thread, As far as indie development any mmorpg at the moment that has a good game system behind it will succeed as most of the trash at the moment is not 2worth getting out of bed for. No need to impress because anything half good will attract lots of players.
