Honestly, I understand global trade.  I know there are some countries who do need it.  But we don't.  Why don't we use that to our advantage?  That's what I don't understand.
We don't need oil.  American's are smart enough to figure out an optional energy source.  The problem is, there's no necessity to right now.  If that necessity were there then the innovation would come right behind it.  And when we develop an alternative energy source then what power at all is the middle east going to have?  Is their God going to then come and smite us for not needing their oil anymore?
I'm just sort of angry that we've gotten ourselves in a corner and now the only options seem to be invading other countries who have resources we "need".  I think there used to be a time when we were smart enough to come up with things on our own.  Now we've become so dependent on other nations and our government that we've lost all our independence and our ingenuity.

Very well put and oh so true....that's the 'problem' with us right now. WE have become a nation of Consumers. During the "WW "wars Americans where told to go out and find materials to give the factories to make weapons and bullets. We are the most productive nation in the world. Salaries have ballooned to a point that we make so much money we can buy whatever our little egos desire. We have to go and enlist people in Pakistan that 'require a lower wage' to do what we will no longer accept as payment for the jobs.

We are still smart and sure we can come up with new and better ideas. We can and will, at some point utilize already existing, 'alternative energy supplies". Unfortunately, Our 'political electives' are calling all the shots for all the 'wrong' reasons. Special interest groups are dominating 'elected officials'. The 'people' are no longer being represented for the sake of....Special Interest $$$$$$$.

The time is coming, sooner than later, when the people of the USA are going 'realize' we must put our foot down collectively. Special interest groups need to go. Any elected official will be ousted from their positions if they do not adhere to the 'peoples' bidding. The Original constitution allowed each state of the Union to strip any elected official of there duties and appoint another in their place.

By the People for the People. The time is coming, we the People just need to be smacked up side the head a few more times....

It's not so much the idea, as it is the implementation of the idea. I'm all for conservation, protecting the planet, etc., but denying someone the ability to mow their front lawn or till their fields because of some special freakin' mouse or someone seeing an owl in the neighborhood is getting beyond the point of ridiculous these days.

When you can be fined and go to jail for removing a mouse nest from your backyard, there is definitely cause for concern.

When you are looked down upon and can go to jail for vandalising someone's house or car, but are considered to be "doing the right thing" when you spraypaint someone's mink coat while they're wearing it in public ( as PETA protestors are well known for doing) is ridiculous.

Well that kind of mentality does lead to the destruction of the environment. Yes you have to deny people the ability to do something eventually. More and more forests are being cut down so people can make farms.  Why deny them the right to till their land ? Cause soon there might not be any forests left DUH.  Its not that people are being opressed and told not to work their land, the problem is people keep clearing more and more land for farms in places where these endangered species live.

This is the exact same arguement that allowed people to ethincly cleanse the Indians.  Heard of Manifest Destiny ? Basically either we get serious bout this environment crap, or humanity literally dies.  But But my faaaarm....no buts or humanity dies period.

I'm talking about farms that have been in operation for 100+ years, on the same plot of land the whole time, with no forest around; who suddenly have to go bankrupt due to being denied the ability to work there farm because of some fricken' titmouse or some lost spotted owl that decided to roost in their tree, instead of just moving the animal to a preserve (that's what we have those for, right?), or just relocating it to a spot where it should be that isn't inhabited. Exactly how is that farmer ruining the environment? With the point of view you're presenting, we will all starve because it's better to have forest everywhere than food.

And where is the comparison to ethnic cleansing coming from? There's a difference between wanting to run your farm, and "Gee, I hate them thar injuns!! Let's kill 'em all!!"

Where are you getting this crap from? If PETA is vandalizing other people's possessions, it's the government's fault for not doing something about it. As for your owl scenario, I'd say that depends on the type of owl in question, whether its endangered or whatnot. Honestly, it's doing you a service to have endangered or otherwise harmful species removed from your property so you can get on with your life.

Where exactly are you getting these obscure examples from?

Yes, that would be a service. However, instead of removing the animals, they force the land owner to accomodate the animal. That is not a service. All it does is cause the landowner to finally decide to get rid of the animals in his own way, which usually isn't going to be pretty and can get the land owner jail time, if caught.

How about from the news over the last few years?

When PETA, Greenpeace, etc. were first started, they were strictly about preserving animals and the planet. As time went on, they are now nothing but corporate and political tools, who can cause problems for the opponents of the highest bidder. Along with the EPA, created by the government, which is used in the same way: to strengthen or kill various projects depending on which political party/corporate organization is paying the biggest "donations".

Sorry if you disagree, but it's the truth.

Acutally, truth generally involves facts and statistics, not baseless accusations. You really haven't given me any evidence.

Yours and Draenor's points come off as condescending and silly because you're accusing organizations without giving any facts about them. "the news over the last four years" is about heuristics, not a holistic perspective of the organization and its mission.

http://www.petakillsanimals.com/article_detail.cfm?article=134 A nice quote: "PETA president Ingrid Newkirk has said that “even if animal research resulted in a cure for AIDS, we would be against it.” "

    http://www.undueinfluence.com/peta.htm A nice excerpt:

Animal rights group repeatedly using civil disobedience contrary to IRS Revenue Ruling 75-384 and funding eco-terrorists directly by contribution (See PETA's 2001 Form 990 tax return, Page 28, for listing of direct donation to North American Earth Liberation Front, an FBI-declared domestic terrorist organization) or indirectly by paying lawyers for suspects in animal rights crime. Uses unlawful means to persuade others to adopt vegetarian diet and to cease all use of animals.

PETA was involved with arsonist Rodney Coronado of the Animal Liberation Front, who torched a Michigan State University animal research laboratory. Coronado sent PETA founder Ingrid Newkirk two packages, one before the arson, one after the arson. When police searched the premises where Coronado sent the packages, they found false identification for Coronado and for PETA co-founder Alex Pacheco, to be used as part of a burglary to release captive animals, suggesting close relations between PETA leaders and ALF crimes. See the
Government Sentencing Memorandum in the case, Pages 8 & 9, for details of PETA's involvement.

The Center for the Defense of Free Enterprise has
filed a complaint with the IRS Commissioner to strip PETA of its tax exempt status.

    (PETA's Form 990 available at guidestar.org)

Here's a helpful hint: enter "peta crimes" in google and browse the results.

PETA is by far the most hypocritical of the organizations I listed.

As for the owls and mice things, I believe that was the EPA that was responsible in those cases. It was a few years ago, all over the news. Soon as I can find a link, I'll throw it up here. I will say that Greenpeace seems to be the most respectable of these organizations, and I really shouldn't have listed them in the first p[lace, as they are more environmental protection than animal activism.

And so you know, I am not condemning the people of these organizations, but the organizations themselves. There are a great many people who are working for the orgs, including PETA, who are there truly trying to help and preserve both the environment and animals. However, as in all organizations, the ones at the top, making the major decisions, are those by which the organization is viewed. A few bad apples, so to speak, do indeed spoil the bunch.

This happened last week and its the first step in coming attack on iran......so notice the line about us and iran and air space.we need to know just how well the air defencese are before we go in..

Russian-made Pantsyr S1 fire control and radar systems

military experts conclude from the way Damascus described the episode Wednesday, Sept. 6, that the Pantsyr-S1E missiles, purchased from Russia to repel air assailants, failed to down the Israeli jets accused of penetrating northern Syrian airspace from the Mediterranean the night before.

The new Pantsyr missiles therefore leave Syrian and Iranian airspace vulnerable to hostile intrusion.

The Israeli plane or planes were described by a Syrian military spokesman as “forced to leave by Syrian air defense fire after dropping ammunition over deserted areas without causing casualties.” He warned “the Israeli enemy against repeating its aggressive action” and said his government reserved the right to respond in an appropriate manner.

Western intelligence circles stress that information on Russian missile consignments to Syria or Iran is vital to any US calculation of whether to attack Iran over its nuclear program. They assume that the “absolute jamming immunity” which the Russian manufactures promised for the improved Pantsyr missiles was immobilized by superior electronic capabilities exercised by the jets before they were “forced to leave.”

This is the second step to the coming attack on iran

USS Truman Strike Group heading for Gulf

military sources report that from the third week of July, the only American strike force- carrier in the Persian Gulf-Arabian Sea region was the USS Enterprise. By the end of September, it will be joined by the USS Nimitz and the USS Truman Strike Groups. Our sources note that with their arrival, three American naval, air and marine forces will again confront Iranian shores at a time of crisis in the military and civilian leadership of Iran - signaled by the abrupt change of Revolutionary Guards Corps commanders, rising Israel-Syrian tensions and a troubled situation in Lebanon.

The Nimitz left the region to take part in large-scale Malabar 2007 II exercise with five Asian nations, termed by Indian military observers “the first step towards establishing Asian NATO. Since the maneuver ended Friday, Sept. 7, the Nimitz has been on its way back to the Persian Gulf. The Truman group, made up of 12 warships and submarines, including a nuclear sub, with 7,600 sailors, air crew and marines aboard, has just completed a long series of training exercises and is preparing to set out for its new posting. It carries eight squadrons of fighters, bombers and spy planes.

The Truman force’s battle cry is: “Give ‘em hell”.

The combined naval strike groups include the Monterey-CG 61 guided missile cruiser, the USS Barry DDG 52 and USS Mason-DDG 87 guided missile destroyers, the USS Albuquerque-SSN 706 fast nuclear strike submarine and the combat logistical USNS Arctic T-AOE 8.

In the last week of August, the USS Kearsarge Expeditionary Strike Group took up position opposite the Lebanese coast amid trepidation over the September presidential election. Our military sources reported that aboard the group’s vessels are members of the 22nds Marine special operations-capable Expeditionary Unit, who are ready to execute landings on Lebanese beaches.

OUR premement bases will be done vary soon some time in DEC...best guests are that bush has set this in stone and it is out of his hands now ? MY GOD HELP US ALL...

And for those of you saying "You're a spineless asshole for running out on your country", I say this, all that this country once stood for, all that so many died for, and continue to die for, has been smashed, chopped, burned, scattered, stomped, and then pissed on in just a few short years (and it wasn't just Bush, this has been in the making for a while). I'll never criticize a soldier, someone with enough guts to actually put their lives on the line, regardless of the events coming to pass.

But, between the god damn money sink that has been Iraq, the stocks plummeting, unchecked rampaging politicians, the dirty old men running the country, the hypocrisy, the lies, and on top of it, that Washington would even *consider* any violent action on Iran with all the pockets we have our hands in, I'm sick of it, and I won't watch it anymore. As one man, I can't change much, and quite frankly, I wouldn't wish the public scrutiny of actually forming some kind of voice on my worst enemy, I'm just going to leave.

All pending, of course, on Iran, or any other recent developments. I'm not saying there's not shitty politics in other places over the world, but really, our country is by far the worst when it comes to it.

    You're welcome in Italia

um, please don't joke. I'm scared. Bombing Iran would be the most dangerous thing to do right now.

If it does happen, it'll be the last straw for me remaining in this country. I won't be here when the entire eastern hemisphere decides to obliterate this country. Netherlands/Canada, here I come.

You're quite welcome in Belgium too. It's the slightly more sensible version of the Netherlands.

Tho it would be a shame if you were to leave your country. You have a lot of stupid "patriots" to make up for.

We get manhunt 2 though. and we have better beer.

Saying the Dutch are better at brewing beer than the Belgians is as absurd as saying the Belgians are better at soccer than the Dutch. You're just saying that to piss me off.

And if people don't beleive the global superiority of Belgian beer, just check out beeradvocate.com.

and italia kicks ths shit out of all of you in soccer... btw belgian beer is pretty DAMN!!!!!! good
