ITalians boycott pasta prices

I wish this country (USA) would boycott gas for a day because of the prices, good luck to my people in their boycott!!!!  FORZAITALIA

    Do u know why pasta prices are so high....its because we are now making fuel out of corn...the same thing happened in Mexico 3 weeks ago because of the taco shells..and guess what its only going to get worse...u cant use a food source for a fuel and not expect the price to go up....like yo way UP .. ..and yes our corn feeds the world. corn is in just about every thing u use in your daily life..

    umm nooooo wheat is in the ground, hence WHEAT FIELDS!!!! you make flour out of wheat and in turn you make pasta out of flour from the WHEAT

    ok then u know that with out corn u wouldn't be able to get the wheat out of the ground or to the market right. what by product is use to get the wheat out of the ground and to the market

    Please explain. Wheat is harvested either by hand or a mechanical harvester powered by diesel fuel. Please tell me where corn falls in this equation. Maybe the farmer was eating some cornflakes for breakfast?

    i think he believes that etonal is involved, ethonal being from corn, but dielsal fuel definetly makes teh harvester run. The day the harvester runs on ethonal is the day i get my brand new flying car

    Ahh. Well ethynol is used as an additive in unleaded, but not diesel.

    The best example of offtopic discussion ever. Turning a discussion about the prices of gas into a discussion about wheat and corn. Check out wikipedia for information about wheat and corn. It's clearly not the same thing.

    Actually, noak had it more right than you other guys who are mocking him.


    When corn prices go up (to supply the demand for ethanol) farm land becomes more valuable planted in corn than in wheat. Therefore wheat planting declines > demand for the available wheat rises > prices for wheat go up.


    Wheat prices rose by 75% this year in Italy. (Coming soon to a Quickie Mart near you!)

    No. That is a given. That's simple economics. What he is claiming is that wheat is a by-product of corn.
