Pirates of the Burning Sea: Forums Transition to Sony Station

SzarkSzark News ManagerMember Posts: 4,420

The Pirates of the Burning Sea official site has been updated with an announcement about the integration of PotBS services with those of Sony Station, and the changes to their forums that will follow.

As many of you know, we've been working in the last few weeks to integrate our services with the Sony Station account. Part of this process involves the migration of the Pirates of the Burning Sea forums to the Sony Station authentication system. The current forum software remains the same and existing posts and threads will be preserved in the transition. However, when the migration process is complete, it will change the way forum members access our message boards - they will log in with Sony Station accounts.

However, we are temporarily suspending new account creation through the forum software until this process is complete.

Linking Your Forum Accounts via the Account Migration Page

When you aren't logged in to our forums, you can still read them. If you wish to post, however, you need to be logged in. Once we've made the switch, you will need to log in with your Sony Station account. Your Station account will have to be linked to a forum account.

We've created an Account Migration resource to assist you in linking your forum account to your Sony Station account (and creating either or both if you need). You only need to do this once. You can learn more by visiting the following link: http://www.burningsea.com/pages/page.php?pageKey=migration

...And he opened the bottomless pit: and there arose a smoke out of the pit, as the smoke of a great furnace; and the sun and the air were darkended by reason of the smoke of the pit.

...And in those days shall men seek death, and shall not find it; and shall desire to die, and death shall flee from them.

...And they had a king over them, which is the angel of the bottomless pit, whose name in the Hebrew tongue is SOE.

Heh, ok sorry.  Just having a little fun.

    LOL...Priceless

Out of every 100 men, 10 should not be there,
80 are nothing but targets, 9 are the real fighters.
Ah, but one, ONE of them is a warrior,
and he will bring the others home.

Good thing they're not changing the forums to SOE's. Those forums are crap: quotes fail many times, posting images is not easy, replies suddenly result in spam, you can suddenly be logged on someone else his account and they are very slow. Maybe there is more but this is what i experienced there so far.

Everytime i ready about someone 'intergrating' into the SOE account system i picture a SOE exec in a big leather armchair stroking a white cat going "All your base are belong to us! Bwahhahahaahaaa"

My only fear IF I were a Potbs fan would be that this being SOEs 100th game,if it will recieve the attention necessary for it to be successful.

Doh, don't you have to have an active station account, i.e. an active subscription, to post on the forums?

Nice way to exclude anyone without an active Sony Station account....

Obviously they did not mean what they said when told us they were keeping control of the game, moving the forums tells me that Sony is running the show now.

Way to go clueless developers!  I was actually looking forward to playing this game, as was my Eve guild.  The more I thiink about it, I am going to actively seek to halt that line of thought!

SOE forums are notorious for moderating any dissatisfaction by deleting posts and banning those who offer constructive criticism.

PotBS has sold it's soul to the devil.

You would think people at SOE / PotBS would notice that since the sony deal was announced the forum buzz about pirates has gone from favorable and optimistic to open contempt and abject disgust.

Geezus, I wonder why ppl make such a fuzz over a mere formality! I have written critical postings about SWG and EQ2 in the SOE forums, and NONE of my many posts was ever deleted or locked! If anything, the SOE moderators where FAR too generous with not deleting flames and trolling! The SWG forums died in flames of irrational and pointless flamewars. None constructive bashing should have no place in a game forum, no matter for what "side" ppl argue.

This news really sucks, and wasn't as announced as they would have you believe. I can say that the community there was waiting on Rusty to announce his 'big secret' on Sept 19th.

I'm no fan of $OE, although I have considdered going back to give Pirates a try. Having to re-open my Station access pass to continue as a member of their community before any news on release; however, is not something I'm willing to do.

Rick Saada, please tell Rusty, Ather, Isuldur, and any others that will listen "To not alienate the community prior to release!!" I can understand having the boards linked with Sony at release, but to move it now will only make members who either don't have a Station account, or are unwilling to return to Station early no longer be a part of the boards.

This is not a happy time, many know we have to choose to contribute to $OE to support FLS, and many may / will / regret doing so. Yet having to be a member of the Station access before PotBS is out, just stinks of some Sony Online Exec sitting in a chair saying: "Let's see how many we can get to play our games until your ready!! I know, you have over 100,000 registered members, and yet we don't have that many players in SWG, MXO, Planetside, Etc... So you make them have to be members to log in, and we'll get a few bored curious types into our stagnating games... then in Feb when you launch, we can cancel the others..."

FLS swore they kept most control, and SOE was only there to publish the game... yeah this move proves that

Mankind is not limited by imagination, but the courage to reach....

Eh, in my case it just went from 'ready to buy' to 'no longer interested' ... it's their perfect right to lie down with whichever dogs they choose, but I've been pretty happy since getting rid of SOE's brand of fleas.

The forums have not moved, they are still absolutely under Flying Lab control.  The FLS forum accounts have been linked with Station accounts, so that your forum account can be associated with beta acceptance status for authentication, and eventually also to associate with billing info.

You do not need an active subscription for your Station account to be linked with your FLS forum account.  My Station account has been inactive since 1999 when I quit EQ, and I saw no issues linking up the two accounts.

You might need an active subscription to post on Sony's forums; I don't know, I never go there.  It's pretty common to have public area where anyone can post and a private area where only subscribers can post, is that what you're thinking of?  Most of the FLS forums are public.
