Lets just stop for a second and think. If nudity, excessive blood, and dismemberment were removed from AoC, how would that effect the actual game play? Would you be less capable of participating in GvG siege, PvP mini games, or Raid content? The core of the game would remain, new combat system and all. But then all of a sudden for the majority of the fans would be turned off to AoC... are you sure you're not just interested in the graphics?

The core of the game and everthing that it was built around, if taken away would ruin the game. Simple as that.

Take out the blood, gore, nudity, prostitution, dismemberment etc etc it wouldn't be "Age of Conan"

The game is all about the title of the game, I don't want to play "Age of Carebear"

The way I see it people who prefer to play without violence have two options:

    a) play the signpost class (personally I prefer the anvil class but then again I am a masochist*)

    b) activate the carebear filter: it turns all the PCs and NPCs in the game into cute carebears. You can hug (melee), blow kisses (ranged/magic) or use belly rainbows (siege). Once your HT (hug target) or BKT (blow kiss target) has had enough (s)he grows tiny cute wings and flies up towards heaven** while waving at you (the motion capture of these animations was especially tricky!). Based on recent beta feedback we are considering making the carebear filter on by default. That way you won't be forced to play a signpost or anvil class to get the most out of your non-violent AoC experience.

I don't know anything about Conan besides the movies, but my understanding is that nudity, blood and gore play a large part in the lore.  If you're trying to establish a brutal anything goes setting then these things can only add to the games feel.  Why have elves and dwarves in other games?  If they were all just humans it would be the same game mechanics.  You build a world, the world AoC is building is bloody.

I think a lot of people will answer you with lore.

But at the same time I think of all the other well known lore intense mmorpgs that have been released.

I do not believe the majority of the playerbase played star wars online for the lore.

Nor do I believe the majority of the playerbase played lord of the rings for the lore.

Or dungeons and dragons online. or world of warcraft.

I did, on every case. I think most role players do, comes with the territory. But I think lore lovers like myself are probably in the minority in the grand scheme of things. I can see why some people fight hard to retain the lore of conan, because I would too if I was into it, but I do not believe most people truly care about the lore. Its sad and unfortunate but I think its true.

Quest logs and other in game text is typically the most heavy in lore... and how many people skip it to get straight to the fighting, leveling, etc.? Too many in my opinion.

    Bit of a silly question.

You're saying the game play is being built around graphics....

*edit* maybe graphics isn't the word im looking for... visual effects maybe? someone help me out.

Environment, - its all crafted within the lore, what you see is pretty much what you envision in the lore. Thats a rich and copied lore mind you, in Conan lore there is a city called Khemi very similiar copied in nature to Khemri of warhammer fame (name, undead area, etc etc) Not always specifically the lore, but what you can do in game too, the classes are built around the lore - same as in other games. The music for the game aswell. Take the heart of the design mind set away and your left with something a lot less shallow.

They are all tied to each other, right down to what your wearing - if anything at all!!

Right, all that is in the lore. If people would have read the stories instead of the movies they would understand why all this is being added. I'm not targeting you Cropper, but in agreement with you that it is all part of the lore.

You take all of that away you can call the game whatever you want just don't slap Conan on the name. Still might be a good game, but it won't be a Conan world.

I highly highly recommend people read some of the Conan stories. Either buy the books or look for them online. There are a few sites that have the stories posted for free to view. They are SHORT stories so you won't be reading a huge novel and complain. REH writes very blunt and fast and has a fantastic style of writing. For someone that was very afraid of death he writes about it very well.

Take the M rating away, and you still have great features left. Player cities, guild controlled resources and battlekeeps, leading to player politics which makes for a more believable world. Drunken brawling should be fun. You can create and join different type of pvp matches. Amazing character creation, gorgeous environments, and rumored tons of emotes with different poses such as prone, crouching, and different emotes for the sitting position. (so they say)

Also, crafting that isn't based on repetitive item creation over and over? Sounds good to me.

I just think gore is the right way to show violence. Why have swords and spears and no blood? That is just silly.

If someone take the dicision to show combat...then take responibility and go the whole way. Same goes for movies, whats the point of showing a punch to the face and not show the effect?

So i wouldent play AoC if the "M" is removed, i hate WoW....and i dont need another one.

I think it is twofold, for one it is different. It is the fact it is not the same that matters. Two, people hope in vain for it to be mature in hopes of having less kids to deal with in their MMO's.

Of course kids are not always the jerks, and jerks are not always kids, but its a stereotype when it comes to MMO's and gaming in general.

The game is made the way it is because thats the Way Howard wrote the stories. Game mechanics non withstanding.

I'm not saying I won't play the game without an "M" rating, but I can't lie and say that the extra "realism" (i.e. violence and gore) wasn't one of the things I was looking forward to most. Not because I'm a psychopath, but because of the immersion factor. I love Conan, and Conan's world is a violent one; I want to play in that world.

Backing down on the "M" rating content would also signal that the Dev's are willing to disregard their artistic vision under pressure, which for quality reasons is NEVER a good thing.

Why cant kids (and religious players) have their "T" rated MMOs and adults (and europeans) have theire "M" rated MMOs?

Isnt that the whole point when using the ratings?
