This game is ranked #2!

I see on the game list that AC2 is ranked #2, under City of Heroes. I think this is because there are ads for AC2 all over MMORPG.com. I hope that the added advertising will boost AC2's population, I'm very curious about the game and I think I'll sign up for another free trial and find a guild and some friends.

Yeah the population of AC2 is growing nicely. I've seen a lot more people logged in during the late hours than I use to. It's a great game, people just have to be willing to give it a chance and learn all the mechanics of it. Then you can begin to enjoy it to the full extent of the game!image

I don't think you are able to use the same user name as before for another free trial. I do know that you are able to make a new hotmail account and use that e-mail address to open up another AC2 free trial account.image

I´m downloading it now! I tryed the free trial three times, and I can´t understand why I didn´t buy it earlier. I guess I was waiting for the ultimate game all the time. But now I realize AC2 is by far the best MMORPG I´ve ever played. Until WoW comes out, this is as good as it gets!

  • Storm.Storm. Member UncommonPosts: 256
Ac2 has a better quest system than WoW does.  Lots of things in WoW have been modified from Ac2 actually.  WoW has a better presentation but you feel no where near as important in it.

lol say that when the cacophos dungeon is collapsing on you and you have to make it to the escape portal before you die so you can finish the quest.  =P

Or when you are fighting at the temples for your kingdom armor....

or when you are fighting swarm after swarm of olthoi!! =)

lv 1-10 tell you the WHOLE game.... not....

LOL! Dude, it is tooooo EASY to make Multi-Accounts on here at MMORPG.com!

1 person can make 20+ multi-accounts. Imagine what 10 people can do? Especially if they all wanted to inflate how "good" AC2 is? There are roughly 6,000 players playing AC2 for the past 3 months. It doesn't take much for some of them to get together and raid MMORPG.com with multi-accounts just to inflate the voting.

It would be even MORE intresting if all those who voted and "voted" for AC2 would POST! Heheh! Post the reasons why they like AC2! You, me, everyone here would likely see their post count is 10 or less LOL!

Ah well, they did a good job. I'm sure they're passionate about it, if I really liked the game ( and the game is growing on me ) I would do the same thing. Now that  AC2 is #2 and ads for AC2 are all over this site, there seem to be a LOT more lowbies around to group with. Last time I played the free trial the newbie towns were totally empty.

Rating aside, a lot has been done since it's release. It is not the same game that caused many players to leave it in droves. With all of the improvements that have been added to the game and the many improvements still awaiting to be added, this game will only get better. Someone that played the game months back and comes back will certainly see a much improved game, but someone that doesn't know how much the game has improved will not notice all its improvements and might only see it's flaws. I for one have only been playing for a little over two months and have see great improvements to the game. The best of which is Crafting 2.0. Which I feel is a great addition to the game.image

The begginings were unique that's for sure. I played at it's release, level 50 was the level cap and I reached it within 6 months or so. They were constantly giving us reroles when they changed the character templates. I started as an Archer, went to a Mage, then back to archer.

I played on the snowreap server, which I now understand has merged with another server??? The game population never exceeded 65 that i ever saw. Everyone knew eachother personaly, it had a nice feel to it but not enough variety. How many servers are running now? And whats the average population in them (ballpark).

I did like AC2, the quests were entertaining, the PvP was probably the best i've experienced, it was a fun game just back when I played it appeared to be headed into the ground.

Oh and the chat problems the game experienced would at times go on for days to a week at a time. Guild chat would go down, then tells, it was like being in a world where you could only talk to a person when they stood right next to you (I guess that would make it more realistic but who wants realism in an MMO image)

Any info on how the game has grown in comparison to what I have described would be nice.

There are no chat problems to speak of that I have experienced since I started playing Asheron's Call 2. There are currently four servers in the states, plus the euro servers. On the two main servers theres roughly 600-850 people playing at prime time currently. The level cap is no long level 50, it is now level 150. I didn't play it from launch so I cant list every little update, but as long as I've been playing there have been many great additions to improve gameplay.image

sure.  Well you named one of the top two reasons why people left ac2 - the chat system.  The chat system was made up of outdated Microsoft chat protocols.  Turbine would have had a fix done within two months but they needed special permission from Microsoft to build their own unique chat system.

Well Microsoft has sold the AC franchise to Turbine and that has basically revitalized the entire game.  Turbine can now freely do whatever they please with the game and do not need special permission to devote time and effort into the game.

Things that you will notice changed are

    -------------------------------------------

    many exciting quests

    Ac1 lore being reintroduced

new KvK system (final part coming sometime later this year - entirely dynamic and capturable)

    Kingdom Sanctuaries

Kingdom Forts and some dynamic features like defensive turrets - core dungeon, and kingdom bonuses

new hero system with a cap level up to 150

a new continent from ac1 Arrmora (Marre Lassel)

    lore books introduced

    OLTHOI!!!

    balanced classes (almost all done)

newly revamped (very well done) craft system

interesting concepts for dungeons such as "jump springs" to reach a higher place, low gravity in some areas, and even a color changing dungeon.

Quests designed for multiple groups without having to rekill over and over

    escort quests

innovative escape from dungeon quests after destroying the dungeon's foundation

new elite yellow text items and unique (very rare) purple text items

    race quest

new tyrant mounts that can be in a variety of colors (actually started out as a bug that was reverted.. but changed back because everyone liked it - it matches the original color of your helmet)

Scripted events (like the return of the gearknights) based on quests that you must finish

an entire month where a dynamic fvf battle took place between the Lords of Dericost (geraine, rytherean, aerefell) and the archons (saelar, hahanin) that was eventually won by the archon faction

And thats just some of the bigger highlights from the past 6-8 months or so  I didn't bother mentioning anything before that because I assumed that you know about a lot of it from before.

False statement. The population of AC2 has shown no steady growth since release. In fact, except for the few weeks after the Hero patch in September 2003 and this week (the new crafting patch), populations for this game have trended steadily downward for 19 straight months. And even the upturn due to the new crafting system only raises the population from 1400 TOTAL peak nightly to 1500. Just 100 new subscribers is not "growing nicely" from a business perspective.

If you want proof, here it is: http://ac2population.freeservers.com/index.htm

AC2 has improved a great deal and continues to improve. They still need some basic things like personal storage and consignment vendors (both even more necessary with the new crafting system released). Additionally, the reward system for the hero levels needs to be reconsidered. Rewards come too far apart and too slowly for players to care too much yet.

But #2 here? Big deal. Self selecting surveys really are making FFXI, EQ, or DAOC devs quake in their boots. AC2, with a nightly peak of 1500 players doesn't have the sales of FFXI (500,000 total players, 120,000+ per night), EQ (400,000 total, 100,000+ per night) or even a DAOC (250,000 total players, 60,000+ per night).

Remember, some people thought the Edsel was a good car too.

Personal storage is not a must.  There are loads of spots in each toon.  The game is just supposed to be fun,  If you want a job, get one.  I'm tired of people, who don't know what they are talking about, bashing a great game.

  • SlangerSlanger Member UncommonPosts: 280
It sure is greatly improved over Asheron's Call 2 a year ago.image *Insert link to Fancy graph showing improvements over the last year* image Anyways, what really matters is personal experiences in game. Because that is what MMORPG's are all about. I have gotten my friends to come over from SWG after I tried it for about a month and they too love it. image

      Thorongil,

NICE graph! Is there a link to the main index page of that site?

I have been going by the information at Sir Bruce's site, which also shows AC2's population plummeting ever since it first released. And also the information posted by current AC2 players not afraid to post how many players play AC2, on the threads here at MMORPG.com on threads on pages 1 to 4. Heck, even on page 1 an AC2 uber-fanboy even posted AC2 has 2,000 players heheh. image

AC2 has gone from roughly 50,000 players since release down to roughly 6,000 players as of April 2004. It is now 3 months afterwards. And the population for AC2 has shown no magnificant increase. By the time Turbine finnishes buying back the rest of AC2 (MicroSoft still controls the billing) the rest of the new big boy MMORPGs will be out, and then AC2 will have no chance in heaven or hell of ever increasing its population by 45,000 to 50,000
