Need opinions, looking for a new game...

First time poster here, so not exactly sure if this is where I should be posting this, so I apologize if I hit the wrong section.

I currently play World of Warcraft, and have been for just after release.  Before that, I played EverQuest for about 6 years or so, with Ultima Online before that.  I guess you could say I'm a "forced casual" type of player.  My real life situation does not allow me to be a raider, and I'm not sure I would want to be one, anyway.  At least, not a hard-core raider.  I also like to mix up my playtime with soloing and grouping.

All that being said, I'm looking for a new MMO to play.  I'm getting rather bored with WoW.  I have one level 70, and about a hundred 20-40 alts running around.  I just get to a point that I get bored while playing, and it just doesn't seem fun anymore.  While I still plan on keeping my account active, as I have numerous friends that I don't mind playing with occasionally, I do think I want to try something else.

I have played City of Heroes, Asheron's Call, Dark Age of Camelot, and D&D Online, but really wasn't grabbed like I was with both EQ and WoW.

I'm not too concerned if the MMO is fantasy based or not, so that's not really an issue.  Just as long as it's something that I could potentially solo in when I wanted to, but wouldn't have to spend all day looking for a group if that's what I felt like doing.  I'm also willing to possibly try any of the games I have played before, as it's possible I found them less than appealing due to being so hooked on EQ/WoW.

If anybody has any suggestions or opinions, I'd love to hear them.  Thanks all in advance for any advice!

So I had to either take up the viola or become a vampire; and they were fresh out of violas.

You would probaly enjoy Lord of the Rings Online or EQ2. Check out the trials.

Yeah, IMO EQ2 is the best game out right now! But sence both LotRO and EQ2 are both offering a free trail i would try them both!

Well, the first thing to consider is to go where your friends are. If you have any friends who've moved on from WoW, check out what they're playing and see if there's a free trial.

Otherwise, you might consider Lord of the Rings Online, which is said by many to be WoW with a Lord of the Rings wrapper on it; or Everquest 2, which has locations and lore that are familiar to EQ veterans. Both games seem to be the casual games that you're looking for and both offer free trials.

I've played both and urge you to give EQ2 a shot. It's got a huge amount of content with more coming in November, and the Echoes of Faydwer box gives you all of the currently published expansion packs.

Ill get flamed for saying this, but give Star Wars Galaxies a shot.

its a good game unless you played it previously and was burned.  Myself, I hated it pre-nge but I really enjoy it now.  I go back from time to time, I still consider it an excellent classic MMO and it fits nicely into my casual schedule yet still feel challenged

seriously, go check out Star Wars Galaxies.  It may be the break you need from a stale fantasy environment

As ever I will recommend the games I like:

First of all. City of heroes/villains, you say you already played it so in this style dunno if there is another game you can have fun. For me never though this games stills being funny for me after some time! cause I got bored very quickly, think what it has is GREAT Character development and design, so, you dont get the fun getting gear and being "more than the others", you take fun growing your own toon, with the chance to make it like you want, so, is not best or worst, is yours, and think this is the real key of this games. Also instances permit to do great battles when you got a full team in max difficulty.

Guild wars can be good, but, I dont think, If you like wow, will like this one, foccused on pvp, very elitist and agressive community.

Perhaps you must wait for Warhammer, Chronicles of Spellborn, Age Of Connan... to see if there is something new and/or interesting.

I'm a former WoW player. I played out many aspects of the game. Casual / solo for a while, hardcore raiding for a while, and hardcore pvp for a while. I really liked WoW until BC. I think a game expansion should build on old content, not destroy it like BC did.

I took a break from MMO's for a while then gave Lord of the Rings Online a try. I play casually now and so far it's ok. The realistic feel compared to WoW's cartoonish feel is nicely done. At this point I'm just grinding up to max level to see what life after leveling is like in Lotro.
