I would imagine December or shortly after Adventurine will start an EXTREMELY limited closed beta. I can't see public beta being anytime this year.
Edit: I'm not just a newcomer making blind guesses either. I've been waiting on DFO since 2003 (yes i know there are those who have waited longer). Judging from recent dev journals, assuming the truth is being told, and moves the company has recently made aprox Dec-Jan is my estimate for a limited closed beta. You'd think they'd push for holday '07 but on a completely uneducated guess I think a retail is more probable Dec '08.

So you're assuming they're going to announce beta? Pretty big assumption. Supposedly they've been "ready" to beta since this past spring. I'm not buying it though. If they were really ready it'd be in beta. Period.

Game wise it was ready meaning that game content and such were ready for beta which is something most people dont seem to understand. If they had everything they needed than they would be in beta but unfortuneatly thats not the case.
Is that really such a far-fetched assumption? They've stated that they'll be putting up solo beta applications soon so would beta be that far away?
Darkfall producers need to realize the point of updates. Release the game, release updates as you make em, thats how it works. Your not gonna fit everything into launch.

As far as I know, they're doing all they have promised. And with a small team like theirs its obvious its gonna take long. And im thinking they believe in releasing a FULL game and fullfilling their promise
Played almost everything... Currently playing nothing... Waiting for: Darkfall, WAR, Guild Wars 2.
the if u push the release date too quickly you'll end up with all sorts of bugs, then the staff will get overwhelmed and nothing is going to get fixed, i dont think im the only here who hates bugs. Listen i know everyone wants to play this game but if it gets released to soon the game wont be worth playing until the bugs are worked out and that could take months
Aventurine has a small team whiel i dont know exact numbers its pretty safe to say under 40.
It has been in full development for 5-6 years. Limited development for a little over a year before that.
It up until recently has not had a guarenteed huge lump sum of money for development. Its money came from small investments and side work Aventurine has done for the greek military.
WoW which even though wildly popular was a very generic rpg which just did all of the generic parts better then everyone else. It took several years, exceeded 150 developers at certain points, had tens of millions of guarenteed cash flow and more if absolutley needed.
In the end we got a very generic mmorpg, a well polished one, but darn generic.
Vanguard was in development (still is really) for over 5 years, beta for 3. It had over 30 million poured into it. It had over 100 devs for a large portion of its cycle. It turned out to not deliver ANY of its promised revolutionary features and was very shotty on the generic features. Its graphics have been surpassed and it runs like a slug.
By all accounts Darkfall (if/when) will go into beta with all of its promised features. With a near full quest suite, with most npcs in game. This all with less money, less people, and really not all that much more time (actually FAR less in man-hours) then the "AAA" titles.
There is also a very large jump in having the game ready for beta and being ready for beta. Past getting the software ready you need to get all of the hardware and communications ready and this is far far more difficult then buying a server from dell, a router from cisco and plugging in a T1.
In the instance of Darkfall they supposedly have a setup which will utilize a very large number of servers (think dozens - over a hundred) and shift the load dynamically between each. If this is true this technology in and of itself is leaps and bounds beyond that utilized for any MMO to date. Arguably the next in line would be EVE's then Vanguard's (which still doesnt work right). There is multimillion dollar commitment in hardware and tens of thousands in connection costs monthly to initalize something of that scale.
Now.. lets say the Software is ready, the Hardware is ready, but your still not sure who will be publishing the title. Guess what you cant go into beta. Before going into beta you MUST know that you will be published no matter what. Without that you will only be throwing money out the door on communication, support, electricity, heating, cooling, building rental, etc.. DAILY!
When you talk down about how long its been in development please try to get your facts straight. The only real complaint anyone can have about this game at the moment is they have missed several beta dates. At that I can point to over fifty percent of all released titles that have done the same.
If Darkfall does not have a near bug free, feature complete, and populated (npc, quest) world when they start beta they won't have a chance to become "huge". It will take EARLY word of mouth and praise for them to push past what has become the wilderness of MMOs. I think they know this.
I am no fanboi. I do desperatly hope they make it to beta and release however EVERY game is vaporware to me anymore until I see it on the shelves. I also will never again buy a MMO without waiting on reviews or trying it myself.

soon hopefully beta should be this year >.>
In your next incarnation. But you won't remember about it because you usually loose track of your previous life when taking a new body.
What deserves to be done, deserves to be "well" done...
lol i love this guy he doesnt have any proof of what hes saying XD
We can all agree on "soon". DF team has said it would go beta soon ever since 2002.
The question is how do they define soon, it could mean "within the next month" or "within the next couple of decades".

Was the game almost 100% complete at the time?

They said it was ready for beta in 2005. They lied. They say its ready for beta now. Are they lying again? Only time will tell.

being beta ready and being almost 100% complete are two different things.
Look at some of the other betas.
Lets look at a few things..
