History Lesson:  Mythic originally DID plan for Slayers to be a character class.  Here's the proof (check the First Screens at the bottom):

Slayers were going to be a class, that is quite probably why a Slayer was included in the Cinematic made by Blur.

But like all things in game developement, things change. Back when they made the choice to drop the Slayer class I believe the reasoning they gave was that they could not currently implement the Slayer class properly in a MMORPG.   I don't think they gave any more specific reasons.

But think about what you're asking.  You want to open one of the most beloved, iconic figures of Warhammer lore to all of the tools who you've seen running around MMORPGs.   The result would be cowardly Slayers, Slayers whining for HEALORZ! & Slayers fleeing the battle unless they're part of a zerg rush.

Perhaps Mythic wanted to avoid seeing that happening such a iconic Warhammer lore element.   Face it, the majority of MMORPG players wouldn't properly play a Slayer, they'd play like the l33t-dood whiners we all know and hate.

EA Mythic has other things to worry right now than trying to figure out how to make players live up to the reputation of the Slayers.   Maybe after the game is released they can come back and try to figure out how to do that.  For now, Slayers deserve better treatment than they would get from most players.

Referencing the cinematic is also poor grounds for making a case for anything. EA Mythic specifically said that the cinematic trailer was made purely to show the feel of WAR and the basic spirit of the game - a crazy RvR battle. It was not ever intended to show or indicate gameplay mechanics, professions, or anything else.

So, one cannot use the argument "slayers are in the cinematic" as grounds for a case they should be in the game. The cinematic was done a very long time ago, in early development, and is for promotional purposes only.

    expansion content.... dhurrr....

can't include everything at the start, that's why they didn't include the other 83.423% of content of |WARHAMMER that got left out.

i can safely predict the first expansion to include skave and lizardmen... troll slayers whatever, get the picture? everquest has 13 expansions... they try and play it smart here. get you to buy the rest later.

Let them balance the current 24 classes.

I accept it might be expansion content.  What that means is that my support, my money and my time will be spent elsewhere when this game goes live.

If I do give in and play it I guess I can make a goblin shaman or Black Orc and join the rest of the massive horde of destruction players because the light side choices are boring as hell...

Observation: other games you will support with your money and your time also will not have Slayers.

My point is that it seems silly, to me, to toss out a whole game simply because it does not have the specific profession you love more than anything else, even though it will have that archetype. If you are interested in the game, then you should be willing to at least try it, and if you are not interested, well, then do not bother at all.

I mean, pretend the game had Slayers but looked like total trash? Would you try it then? If so, why? And if Slayers are a requisite, why play other games that are even further from having them? Isn't playing WAR without Slayers similar to or better than playing any other game without Slayers? It is not like boycotting WAR for not having them and then playing another game brings you closer to playing them.

I just think you would be missing out on something you would enjoy, because you seem to like Warhammer and like how WAR is shaping up, and that would be a shame. Then again, it is indeed your money and your time so I suppose if Slayers are your sticking point, that is cool.

Personally, I'd just play an Ironbreaker or Hammerer.

I agree. It seems a little odd that you would rather not play the game because there aren't any Slayers in it, even though the game is the closest that you're going to get. BTW table top slayers suck. It's just kill, die, kill, and die. No flavor at all.
