MMs are prolly the best for a welcome to the game.
Brutes would be the second best IMO. They solo very well, especially at high levels...and they are most welcome in groups. Some brutes solo better, other are more welcome in groups. /fire is the best soloer, /invul is the basic template, /stone is for endgame, /ela is damage oriented but better in group then solo...

"Noob"s should not Mastermind on teams. They give the rest of us a bad name. I'd actually say being a good Mastermind is the least noob-friendly, since you have to learn to set up keybinds and use them appropriately. Solo you'll be ok though.
I'd say brute first. Flexible, fast, good soloing or on teams, and having status protection will be much more noob friendly than having to put up with mezzes.
MM is powerful and easy to solo but not actually noob friendly as using an MM at its most effective requires a decent knowledge of the interface and macros.
Corruptor can be noob friendly, but building one well or to your playstyle requires some knowledge.
Dominators are some what easy but the controls require some knowledge of game meachnics to pull off well.
Stalkers, meh, what's the point when you can be a Brute?
Well I found MM pretty newbie friendly. Keybinds or macros don't matter in this view. As it is said newbie friendly, not endgame friendly
The only thing to watch out for is that you don't take any melee based pets, so leaves you with robotic, mercenary and thugs. Necromancy and Ninja's I would keep your newbie hands of until you indeed know how to use keybinds/macro's.
Never really played a brute, so can't comment on if he is a newbie friendly.
Dominator is the hardest for newbies to handle, just because you need to know what you are doing or you are dead quicker then you can say "WTF".
Then we also have the corrupter that isn't to hard to play with, at least not if you take one with healing powers in secondary powerset.
At last we still got the stalker. I found that AT easy to get around the maps with, explore and hit the enemies I wanted to hit and take them out quick. However in some missions it was needed more then once to use hit and run, or die because of to many opponents. Especially in large teams it is a bit harder.

Brutes Brutes and Brutes! Universally the only good AT for a n00b. A distant 2nd would be Stalker. While Masterminds and Corruptors are fine if you're soloing, as a beginner you'd do well to avoid these ATs in a group, cuz you're just gonna piss off your teammates. Same with Dominators. Brutes are simple, straightforward, and fun . All you do is beat on stuff til it stops moving, then move on to the next thing still breathing. Stalkers are okay. They're great for soloing, and no one expects much from them in groups so you're okay there too
Mastermind is the fastest leveler, newb friendly too.. its very rare that you will die if you have your pets on defend. Its pretty newb friendly too, just get the bind pack and take 5 minutes to get used to it. Brutes are great, but the only ones that are needed later on are /stone because they rock above 40 (pun unintended). I found leveling a brute much slower than my MM, and he was energy/elec which is supposed to be the best damage, my MM did atleast 50% more damage at the same level (36).
You might want to go elec/stone brute, or thugs/poison MM. My advice is to get friends with a kinetic corruptor if you go /stone brute. It will make leveling insanely fast, with speed boost. With thugs/poison you can either solo the entire game at a good rate, or group at a faster rate.
I'm wondering if there is a least loved class. The one that's always absent at the picnics and such. Just wondering since I'm about to enter my registration key and have always liked the under loved classes. Thanks

That would be the Dominators (don't pick plant, fire, cold or illusion...and I honestly can't name the other sets from memories)...followed closely by the Stalkers.
Honestly, for me, the Dominators are weaker then the chanters in old EQ. No point in playing a class that is weaker then it EQ counterpart.

Stalkers are also the flip side of "least loved," which is "most hated." But I agree, Dominators. Of the dominators, Plant is probably the most common just because it doesn't have a Hero counterpart. Gravity is probably the least common primary powerset for dominators. And then your secondaries are Energy/Fire/Ice/Psychic/Thorn. Of which Energy probably concepts best with Grav, but Ice is probably less common.
So Gravity/Ice Dominator, no love. But I personally wouldn't hesitate to invite one to a team, it's just that I never see them.
Dominators are the easiest to solo with... Especially gravity Doms... NOT!!! OMG, I am soooooo kidding!!!
Doms are the hardest of all I find - MM is easy to solo with BUT, like the one person said - grouping with them - you may end up making people mad at ya. The pets start to become bothersome in groups if you don't know how to control them. And there is ALOT to controlling pets. If you are going to MM and want to group - check out some guides first - learn how to use some of the pet commands to help keep em in check.

Gravity is pretty crappy - if you don't have one or it's low level you might want to switch. I've read through some guides and it's like the storm defender was back in the old days. Personally though I play ice/ice dom and I like it a great deal. I mean iceslick is the best so far - I'm lvl 20 at the moment and have discovered some things I'd like to spec out of course during the respec. Solo though - ouch! If I didn't have super speed/hasten it would be a nightmare.
I'm adding another vote for Brutes, though I guess it really depends on the type of class you're used to playing. If you know crowd control, dps stealth classes, etcetera, like the back of your hand, it's really just a matter of learning which abilities do what. I know that I absolutely love my Super Strength/Electric Brute and my Dark/Dark Brute very much. Pretty much all of the Brutes have endurance issues in the beginning, but I've enjoyed all of the powersets I've tried. Super Strength is my favorite, though; if your opponent can't get up off his back, he can't hit you! Nothing says love quite like hitting a bad guy with a massive Super Strength uppercut in a room with low ceilings-....splat...thud.
Dominators can solo better than Controllers, but that isn't saying much.
Brutes are the easiest to jump right into but at higher levels Masterminds can tear through levels. My 50 nec/poison MM can solo red EB's easily and certain Hero/AV's as well. Between the 6 pets and my 3 debuffs I can burn through a mish very quickly. It takes a while for MM's to get rolling. The "pet levels" meaning the level you get either a new or additional pet are as follows: 1, 6, 12, 18, 24, 26. Note that you can get your 1st pet buff at level 6 but can't get the 2nd pet buff til ... umm ... 32 (I think).
If you want to pvp a lot, then I'd say pick Stalker and proceed to annoy heroes everywhere.
There are separate forums for both City of Heroes and City of Villains. This is the City of Villains forum, and the original poster asked the question here. As such, people responded with Villain suggestions. If you play a Hero, you can't group with Villains (or vice versa), so advice on characters is best divided into two sections.
Well with Issue 10 there is an exception for hero-villain co-op. Once you get to 35 you can go to the Rikti War Zone and freely team with heroes or villains. Plus, I think, the Pocket D co-op missions are still ingame so if someone has DJ as a contact they can get the repeatable Snaptooth missions. Not 100% sure on Pocket D though, I haven't been there since the event several months back.
To keep to the topic: Stalkers and brutes would probably be noob friendly Archetypes since stalkers are built to dish out damage and theres always stealth while brutes can take some damage while running away in a tight situation.
Masterminds are NOT noob friendly (unless you're aiming to just mess around by making minions dance). For a mastermind, the basics are that you'd have to set up keybinds to control your minions unless you want to play it the really hard way without keybinds and just spam mouse clicks here and there (keybinds can be found on the MM forums - Kaibas MM keybinds or something).
Plus, you'd have to know which type of minion would be a good tank for a certain mob, when to separate your minions to tank various groups of mobs should you accidentally aggro them, you need to know which mob to focus your mastermind's attack on and know which mob to "keep at bay" with your mastermind (for example, an MM with force field spec can keep an opponent at bay by just spamming force bolt on it).
Masterminds and Noobs don't mix weather there soloing or not cause they have to learn how to control there pets which can make for bad JuJu on mish. I would go with a SS/Invul Brute/Tanker or a Plant/Regen Stalker These should be best for a Noob to 1st play and they Level pretty fast.
Lord Mafisto LVL 50 Corr >Fire/Dark< Villians Justice
All classes are easy to play. However... if you're talking about a character for a little kid, I'd go with brute. It's a pretty str8 forward class... melee always seems to be the least complicated class in rpg games.
I would have to say the MM with dark 2nd is the best newb friendly class villian side you don't have to know how to control your pets to play and level quickly, only if you want to be really good and take out mobs alot easier do you need to know how to control your pet's but the dumbfire method works well on med setting....once you get better you can increase the mish lvls ...my MMs are on the hardest from lvl 12 and walk thru all but the AVs

I found Masterminds to be very noob friendly and easy to solo with, though you can solo with any class without much grief.
I agree, MM is very good for soloing so is stalker however which ever you prefer

High hitpoints high damage early in the game, Allthough im told MMs start doing higher damage around 30-35.

Just my two cents. Happy hunting!
Masterminds have a lot of management to do; I strongly recommend brutes. High damage, high DPS, and some of them even have some self-heals!
