just a few questions:
#1 Are zerkers a viable pvp class(have one @ lvl 25)
#2 Do you HAVE to turn off combat xp to maximize AA's, or will you maximize regardless by the time you reach max level? If it is the latter, by what level can you expect to be maxed out(itd be nice to be pvp viable before max level without having to suffer too much)?
#3 Are crafters self-sufficient?(meaning: do crafters have to rely on other specialized crafters to produce certain goods so that they can craft items due to tradeskill limitations (wow), or can anyone make anything with free found materials?)
#4 Is there really little to no mid-level population on Nagafen?
#5 Is the economy inflated? Are spell upgrades and level-appropriate phat lewtz unaffordable for a low level player?
FYI I must return on Nagafen, as I find leveling with no promise of a PVP promised land to be extremely dull. Its the destination, not the journey, dammit

#1 Are zerkers a viable pvp class(have one @ lvl 25) - They're pretty good in groups and tanks are always needed. However, you won't be doing enough damage as a solo berserker in PvP to make it enjoyable.
#2 Do you HAVE to turn off combat xp to maximize AA's, or will you maximize regardless by the time you reach max level? If it is the latter, by what level can you expect to be maxed out(itd be nice to be pvp viable before max level without having to suffer too much)? You can have a total of 100 AA points between both trees (50 for each). Without AA's you won't stand an equal chance in PvP versus the opposing faction. This is the reason why people lock at certain levels to take advantage of the AA's so that when you do get to 70, you're not constantly grinding and looking for named NPC's to get the AA experience from. There is a finite amount of quests in the game at level 70 and by the time you finish all of them, you won't have the amount of AA's you'd like, and would have to hunt named NPC's which can be no fun to some. You won't maximize regardless by the time you reach max level, definitely not. You could get to level 70 and still only have 20-30 AA's with casual questing.
#3 Are crafters self-sufficient?(meaning: do crafters have to rely on other specialized crafters to produce certain goods so that they can craft items due to tradeskill limitations (wow), or can anyone make anything with free found materials?) Crafters are very self-sufficient. The only thing you need as a crafter is the time to gather the resources and gather the rares to make the mastercraft/adept III items. At level tradeskill 20 you specialize in one thing you'd craft, IE: Sage (Crafting spells), Armorsmith (Crafting Chain/Plate armor), Weaponsmith (Weapons, duh). For me, to be even more reliant on myself, I make two other characters besides my main and keep there tradeskills leveled up so I can make my character it's armor, weapon, spells, etc.
#4 Is there really little to no mid-level population on Nagafen? Alot of the PvP focuses on T2 (10-19), T3 (20-29), T6 (50-59) and at 70. You will see a little gap in the middle, but, will still have plenty of PvP as those levels you have a higher PvP level range.
#5 Is the economy inflated? Are spell upgrades and level-appropriate phat lewtz unaffordable for a low level player? If you are not crafting to make things to sell on the broker, or gathering resources and selling the rares on the broker, then you're not going to be able to make decent money at a low level. I gathered resources and sold the rares and made about 20 platinum from level 10-25 which was more than enough to keep my character well geared. If you are just grinding NPC's then you might find the economy inflated, unless of course you get a couple of lucky drops.
I hope this helps! I am really enjoying my time on EQ2. The best time i've had on a MMORPG since Ultima Online with the rush of the PvP.
while I think that the AA system is outrageous and is a gamebreaker for me, I thank you all for your responses. It would me nice to have more than just 2 competing voices as to the AA system at endgame, though I would tend to go with the first as everything else he said seems spot on.
Still want to try out that crafting

#1: Agrees with Psydex. Best in groups, but if you like group PvE or PvE fights, you will like it
#2: I have leveled up 2 characters to 70 after EoF (PvE), both with casual questing and some dungeons runs. Both ended up at 90 AA points at level 70. The last 10 AA points was done rather fast (some raids, quests and some nameds). The problem with the PvP server is that you need so much AA points as possible, as early as possible, since that gives you a edge in the PvP fights.
#3: Crafters are self sufficient now (if you don't count the uncommon recipes books and harvests).
#4: Haven't played on Nagafen since January, so I can't really comment that.
#5: The broker prices are inflated in the early levels. It gets better in the 35+ level range though. The easiest way to make gold on the servers is to use the inflated prices to your advandges. If a spell sells for more than you can afford, just sell those adept1 loots for the current price or lower. They drops quite common. I never really had a problem to level up and buy stuff on the broker, even if I don't really plays the broker.

You have to consider the fact that EQ2 is a primarily a PVE game (and a damn good one as it is), and most of the mechanics that make the PVE enviroment so enjoyable translate poorly to PVP.
AAs were introduced as a way to diversify your character traits and make them more unique in playstyle, adding varois customisation options to all classes.
Turning off combat XP is another great PVE mechanic that enables one to enjoy hundreds of quests game has to offer without having to vorry their level will get too low for you to benefit from them.
Both of the above have improved the overall game quality immensly, allowing for people to have more choice of how to create and playe their characters.
Alas, as it usually goes, both of those have been exploited by the PVP twink/gankers. The thing is, EQ2 is, and is going to stay a PVE game, with PVP added as an afterthought (there are infact only 2 PVP servers if i am not mistaken), and if you are looking for a fully ballanced PVP enviroment you might recosnider playing another, more PVP oriented game.
It is possible to have 100aa by level 50 or so. But that is with pulling almost all the tricks.

Hm..maybe i'm wrong...but...you're allowed 1 and 1/2 AA per level. Meaning at level 30, you could have a total of 45. At level 50 that would be 75 total aa's. So, i'm not quite sure how you could have 100 aa by 50. Then again, maybe I am wrong?
ummm....
what's AA?
i'm new to EQ2 sorry
