Playing July 4th weekend event

lemerialemeria Member Posts: 17

I have been playing the July 4th weekend event. I did not ever use my previous open beta invite as I had read on the forums such bad feedback. I thought why bother. I am an experienced MMORPG player and beta tester and am looking for something indepth and different. I like fast combat and detest staring at my monitor while I regenerate my health and magic power. When I signed onto this game I thought this is strange, but being there is nothing out there ATM that sparks my interest, I figured let me get past my initial impression. I continued on and learned I could apply alot of my basic game skills from other MMORPG's to this game. The game then was easy to learn. Then I set out to fight. Combat was fast. Very little sitting. I could cast a spell with a creature within range of my character. Then I started to gain skills and levels. This seemed fun. It wasn't boring. Again, I have only played lower content for a brief period of time and have not looked into missions, quests, or guilds as this is only a weekend event. For me the first thing I do when judging a game is decide if I like the combat system and so far it seems enjoyable. The worst bug I encountered was a occasional drop from the server.

I played for several weeks in Open beta and truthfully I can quite agree with above post. If one played  MMORPG before, skills with char mechanics are similar. And to my knowledge there's no end game content in game still.  Even now in focused beta, it's only slowly being brought in. Missions were next to nonexistent/unplayable lvl in beta and guilds had minimum support, although in-game forums was helpful nice feature.

But the graphics are superb and brick-based skill-building system is great idea. If you didn't have over 20 drops from server in one day, you had fun leveling up image

What server / race you played and how laggy was it/ h many drops you had on server per day ?

    Hi Corsair52,

There is only one server during the Focused Beta.

I am not sure about the 20 server drops per day.  I monitor the servers daily and haven't seen close to that many drops.  There was a problem with Linksys routers during the earlier Open Beta, that could have been the problem when you were in the OB.

    Fadinaway,
Hey if you are looking for anymore people for your focused beta, I would gladly give of my time and knowledge. I was rather disappointed when the weekend event ended, so I quickly filled out an application for focus beta on the website and am hoping for a reply. From my very short experience, I thought this game has so much potential. It was so refreshing to see a game that requires thought when planning your characters development and not just following a template and waiting to get to that magic level that enables you to get that uber skill you so desire. I have beta tested just about all MMORPG's out there now and tend to be very disappointed and usually bored prior to retail launch. When I got into Saga of Ryzom this past weekend, I could not stop playing, and I thought this is what I have been waiting for a long time. This game is a challenge and it is fun.

    Heya Fadin,

It is good to hear this. Nice to learn from your open weekend event feedback that server stability is much improved  (I rather referred to many server disconnects/resets than router probs in OB), and new content is steadily coming out to be tested by FBTs.

Not to repeat some posts, but this MMO has some quite unique game mechanics. One thing I can remark upon game based on Open Beta is prompt support/forum updates on server downs by Gms. Me and our guild in OB had pleasant time getting in contact with in-game Gms. Afaik they re being outsourced through the Themis group ? The beta experience was very supportive, some Gms were kewl (lo Mindadar image), and all 're most professional bunch.

I haven't played SoR since the open beta ended and the game went back into focus beta testing. I haven't had time to play any of the specail weekend events either because I have been moving. It is a good thing to hear if the server stability problems have been fixed or at least improved. That was my biggest problem before.

Has the lag also been addressed? Is it better?

I can definately say the lag is a bit better but i wasnt hit by the linksys router issues so i guess i might not be the one to ask. But the server is rarely down and when it is its usually for a server side patch or some such. I was told the official chat has a lot of gms and devs around to let us know when the server is coming down but my computer cant really handle much other than ryzom [time for an upgrade haha :(]. But yes things are definately better and there really headed in the right direction. Im really impressed at the progrss thats been made and it showed great integrity to postpone the game and theyve lived up to there promise to make the game better in that time.

I love the game but I must admit that for the first little while in the open weekend I got dropped from the server a multitude of times.  I didn't think much of it at the time, it's beta after all.  And coming up to the end of the weekend I had a lot fewer problems.  Ah, c'est la vie, etc, etc.  I enjoyed myself, even with the problems, and that's what counts, isn't it?

Make sure you have applied for the Focus Beta or you won't get a beta account. :)

As I am sure I have said too many times, as long as you join the Ryzom community at http://www.ryzom.com , you will be able to join us in the Open Weekend Beta times. :)

    See ya in Ryzom.

Right now there is no real content at all. Although i dont agree with it, i belive they are saving all the content for the full release and not testing any of it or exposing it to the public.
