Shadowbane is just....wow...just go to their official forums and read the server political forums and its amazing how political this game is with its open pvp. Incredible. Right now the North American guilds are teaming up against the Chinese hordes, but theres rifts and treachery within the North American ranks(Im not making this up). PLUS ITS FREE! Too bad its point/click to move, graphics are horrid, etc. Leveling is lighting fast though, like if you play hardcore you could hit max lvl in a week, but you have to be in a good guild. Character specialization is great, pve content is not. Probably the best pvp game out there free or not free ATM. Castle sieges, open pvp, guild cities, you name it.
If you want more structured pvp, the three-way war of Dark Age of Camelot is great, its more of a grind than Shadowbane but also a more polished game with good pve, great character and class choices, and a real-time war(although I personally dont differentiate it too much from a BG given that the RVR landscape never changes TOO much...its far to large. MY favorite mmo all around, pve or non-pve.

Thanks for the info, im gonna go do a search on shadowbane.
I cant comment on ShadowBane, having not played it (i will have a look though), but i can certainly reccomend DAoC as the best PvP game I have played.
Many people who have high lvl toons go back and create a new toon just to be used for the battlegrounds. (eg lvl a toon to lvl 24 for thidranki, the lvl 20-24 battleground) Though the end game PvP in my experience was more exciting and fullfilling, i had a number of BG toons for a different scale of PvP, which was still quite enjoyable and at times a nice break from the more serious end game. I also found it made the grind more worth while knowing that i had something to really look forward to in DAoC's PvP.
Have a look and see what you think...
It still can be quite active despite its lower population these days, which is prolly the only drawback i have w/ the game.
PvP is an important topic to me too when trying a new game However imho i still havent found one that stands up to the PvP in DAoC.
DAOC is cool, but shadowbane is the easiest to get up to competitive levels..and its F2P. D.
F2P...well theres an incentive to check it out i have read some interesting posts on its PvP and i myself will probably enjoy it.
I should have mentioned that at end game PvP in DAoC, it does require getting some nice gear to be somewhat competetive, but when i was playing i didnt mind having to do this as it adds another element to the game that i enjoyed, and made it worth while for me in the end.
However i mentioned BG's as these more or less just require you to grind to the specific lvl of the battleground, and i found (on TOA servers anyway) that the gear wasnt as important at these lvls to still be competetive and have an enjoyable experience.
This was my experience anyway...
Cheers guys, im gonna have to check out ShadowBane sometime too...if i can get off EVE online...i hear it has some good PvP too (i havent experienced it yet, nor am i at a competitive lvl to do so or comment hehe) But im enjoying it so far, and am in a corp that does PvP so i hear a bit about it... Not one where you can jump on and start PvP'ing though
