Waiting for WAR, is this good to kill a few months?

I'm REALLY looking forward to Mythic's new project, WAR, and have quit WoW (Thank god) in anticipation. However, my life feels empty, and I am reduced to playing counter-strike for endless hours w/o an MMO in my life.

I'm patching the demo right now, and will try it in the morning. But, is this a suitable replacement for a couple months? I am looking forward to checking out Mythic's MMO style, and I've heard alot of good things about DAOC.

Depends. If you have friends playing it can be cool. Honestly, WoW quests were more fun I think, but the pvp in daoc is much better, and the raids were kinda fun. I liked the classes a lot better too.

My advice is don't rush to lvl 50, enjoy the battle grounds on the way up, (assuming you like pvp.)

Outside of what I've said...DAOC is as suitable a replacement as any other game out there.

Oh, and be advised the trial they give you has nothing on the actual game. It is a much better experience if you have all the xpacs and stuff.

    D.

p.s. From what I hear these days, you may want to try the classic servers, I hear they have more population than the other clusters. Enjoy

I lead a sad, sad life, Toid. See the DnD sig.

Anyway, I THINK I like PvP. It was fun in WoW, but even I know that WoW's PvP, while not bad, is subpar.

I'm also very intrigued by the low costs of this game, both to sub and buy, since it will PROBABLY be temporary.

I never "rush" to a level cap. I played WoW for, like, 3 years, my highest was 34.

Edit: FOrgot to ask my question. What's the alternative to Classic servers? What's the difference?

The classic servers got rid of 2 thinks that people had a big problem with TOA and Buffbots. Since some people can't really get 2 accounts to run there playable toon and  a side account to run a toon that give you stats buffs. Also TOA is one of the expansion that made alot of people leave because of all the raiding you had to do. But mythic changed all that in there few previous patches where they made everything in TOA very easy where a group can do almost every encounter. Instead of in the past where you needed 30+ people to do a encounter.

Honestly I went into playing DAoC with no friends and no guild and I had a blast.  You can usually always find a group in the BG's and on the classic servers theres plenty of people of all levels, go for it.  It can definately hold your interest at least until WAR comes out.

    Honestly...

Yes you can have fun.  If I really went into it.. most of what I'd have to say wouldn't be positive.

So you may have fun.. but when you see what is allowed to go on in game (which you can experience on your own and form your own opinion rather than reading mine).  It may sour you to any future Mythic product.

But I also firmly believe a person should form their own opinion based on their experiences.  Probably depends on what realm you role in as well.  As to groups I can always find them even with lower population than there used to be.. So groups or making friends really shouldn't be hard to do.

You can have fun and aditionally learn a lot from DAoC.

My personal advice: join a classic server -Midgard realm. Until you start grouping with others (which will be fast enough), enjoy your lonely endeavors in a moody setting ;)

Aside everything anyone says (including me) that's the purpose of a tryout offer. Play for 14 days changing toons and classes. If you like it at the low levels, you'll love high battlegrounds and Frontier RvR later on! I just mention that I still haven't found another game in the market that offers that detailed mechanisms in seiges with castles actually blowing up by catapults and ballistas shooting people.

If you like the tryout, go p2p -at least until WAR is launched and patched 2 times ;)
