Im getting a new computer tomorrow and i was deciding weather i should play lotro or ddo. I went with lotro at first but then i heard it was alot like wow. i played wow for a year then quit. i heard ddo was different from other mmos because of the combat and stuff. i was wondering if this game had intense combat and good pvp and stuff. idk which to choose. lotro or ddo >.<

Dude you posted your question in the DDO general forums! Do you really expect to get unbiased answers?
Anyway, both games have free trials. Give both a shot and find out for yourself...
i know im on the ddo forum. its because im leaning a little more twards ddo lol. im watching some vids and it looks sick as hell. looks like fast paced combat/pvp.
do weapons and armor glow in this game at all? like in wow if you got a fiery enchant your weapon would glow red. stuff like that
Currently playing: Shadowbane (Mourning server), Rainbow Six: Vegas (PS3)
Waiting for: AoC, WAR, Darkfall, Fury
Have played: WoW (1 year), GW (6 months), Conquer Online (8 Months), Runescape (1 year).
DDO definitely is not like other MMO's and can be disappointing for people expecting it to be. Except for a few outdoor zones, it's mostly a city with dungeon doors. You pick up dungeon quests and level from the quest experience, not from mobs. Your skills can only be used a few times during the dungeon, so you need to choose wisely when to execute them. If you have a group of friends to play with, it can be a lot of fun. But if you're looking for PVP, this is not the game for that.
LOTRO is more similar to WoW as it is quest-based, but while you can solo, it is a bit more group quest oriented than WoW. It does have monster play which many enjoy if you're looking for some PVP.
But, as was said, they are both offering trials so nothing lost in trying them both.
well i play an mmorpg for pve. pvp for me is like when im bored or something. and the pvp in ddo doesnt look too bad. plus im looking for something different. i just quit wow, i dont wanna play a game thats just like it, just with better graphics and an epic storyline. i also like the fact that ddo has a more mature community. i got annoyed at the childish WoW community fast.

Well, you kind of answered your own question
LOTRO is basically WoW in Middle Earth. DDO is 100% completely different, and your impressions of the combat system are pretty much right on. Play it for the trial, and if you're really looking for a WoW alternative you've found it.
lol ok cool. im really only just looking for an mmo to play till warhammer comes out lol.

well i am an Ex wow player myself, played for almost 3 years....
First started playing DDO beginning of last year, played for about 9 months then bailed. and activated my account again about 2 weeks ago.
The good :
----------
Gameplay :
Awsome, i love the fighting style, it is truely unique, there is not a mmorpg out on the market that can touch it, neither for the AI. you have to constantly out think your oponent.
Community :
Far better then Wow, everyone i know are aged from 20 through 60. no little 9 year old kids spamming channels and wipping parties.
Graphics :
Really great graphics, especially since they just upgraded the engine only days ago, far better than wow....
Tweaking options and feats and enhancements :
the best part of the game is the ability to change almost everything on your character, you have something like 120+ enhancements that you can play with, it is one of the only mmorpgs out there that no 2 characters will ever be the same. you can also multi class with up to 3 different classes. the options are endless.
The Bad :
Dungeons only - there is no solo content, but even so, there are hundreds of dungeons from low level to high that will keep you busy, and groups are plenty.
PvP is only for fun, no rewards or anything. altho there are rumours that a descent pvp reward system is to be implemented at some stage. BUT the pvp really is alot of fun !!!! and is in controlled areas, so no undead rogue ganking you in the middle of no where, if you pvp in DDO you ussualy go up against the best of the best ....
It took me a few days to get used to the game, infact i was about to quit when i got invited on my first STK run, I was hooked for 9 months after that , i only left because of personal reasons that had nothing to do with not liking the game, and since i came back am having a blast ...
Anyway, you should try the trial and see if you like it.
Try Eq1 if you love Pve . or if your bored of Wow. If you want more complicated quests eq1. Both are good i just wasn't a fan of Dand D

DDO is certainly different from WOW. I suggest trying the 10-day trial: trial.ddo.com/
dude LOTR and DDO are absolutely horrible compared to World of Warcraft ... end of story ... graphically, interface wise and so on and son ..... just WOW got it right and they reap the rewards ... I was excited about LOTR but it failed to match the ease of play and so on of WOW and DDO just felt completely meh ..
Money is the root of all evil.
This is absolutely true...
if you're 9.
p.s. you explained why yourself
"the ease of play and so on of WOW"
There is a lot of anger on MMORPG.com. I'm thinking its due to all the shattered dreams and broken promisses made by developers and publishers about their games

LOL, yea if you like playing a cartoon character...... There's a reason WOW doesn't require much of a computer and any yahoo that can affored a e-machine from walmart can play WOW, I'll give you a hint, it's not for it's stunning graphics.
