No, it's not the old combat system, but it's not really the original NGE one either. You now have the choice between having your combat work simillar to the way it used to (with target lock, & auto-fire) but you also have the option of the original NGE style combat which was twitch based. There is a guide stickied at the top of the SWG current forum on this site that lists how you can make it behave almost how it used to.
I just miss the great crafting system, it was a good game, and still sorta fun to play after the CU, but when a patch invalidated my entire inventory of droids, by resetting them to level 1, and the GMs told me that they wouldnt restore them, i left
Thankfully before the NGE, dont think i could stand that wonderful game being class based instead of skill based
If you ask me, someone who spends half a year grinding to be a virtual jedi in a terrible game isn't much smarter than a 5 year old.
The point to this why the grind was supposed to be so hard so only the most hardcore players would reach there was because there were not supposed to be many jedi knights per server Just like in the movies and its kinda funny how they say that they wanted to make the game more Star warsy when they overpopulated the servers with jedis since you can now choose that at start!

Jedi was never hard to obtain and no, a grind does not make it hard it just delayed people. It was harder to be a Jedi back then tho due to the perma death & XP loss but it was never hard to get to Jedi. In my opinion, there was a higher % of the population that was Jedi towards the end of the CU then there is now. Due to the path to Jedi being only seperated by a grind and with Jedi being an alpha profession, people naturally felt that they needed to be Jedi to be able to be competitive against everyone else. As more and more people became Jedi, it was only inevitable that something would be done to bring them down to an equal level so they were no longer the only viable profession.
Game with player economy like in SWG doesn't exist. (Don't listen to the EVE fanbois, that economy is more like WOW where you have to grind for 2 years straight to make something intersting)

As was I. Pre-pub 9 was also just a grind. All you had to do was grind up the professions until you hit the magic professions that was your combo. With sologroups, grinding XP wasn't really that hard it just took time. Time is not a good restriction.

The old SWG was an unbalance, massive grind promoting p.o.s.
Its still a mediocre game and always will be because there is no focus or direction where the game is going or what they want it to be and its well past its prime. You will never see another MMO like SWG mainly because people are not interested in toiling through hundreds of hours of standing in fields killing "Bols" or whatever to accomplish something. The age of the grind game is passing.

If the pre-pub 9 system was still in place now there'd be just as many Jedi. All it took was time which for an MMO is really not that much of an obstacle.
Unless Bria is completely different, I think you're highly over exagerating the Jedi population. Yes there are more then there should be (none), but on Chilastra at least, the majority of the players are non-Jedi professions. A group of nothing but Jedi just can't compete against a mixed group.

Time was really the only restriction you're right, it was hardly an ideal solution. But at least it was restricting the numbers of Jedi on the servers, making them a starter "class" is total horse shite.
To everyone else, if you enjoyed playing the pre-cu game, didn't much enjoy the CU avoid the current game at all costs. It's pretty much the CU with lots of dumb particle effects, only 25% of the original professions and the server's "communities" display all the maturity levels of a toddler.
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

As I said, the % of the population that is Jedi is less now then it was towards the end of the CU. Particle effects will have control options with the next chapter. Can't agree with the statement about the Community, I find the majority of the people I deal with in the game to be pretty mature.
The diffrence with the Pre patch 9 grind and this one today was that the grind was so hard that not many fulfullied it but started playing on another character halfway because they simply got so boored of the long ass grind THAT was the restriction.
and it sure as hell worked we had maybe 6 - 15 Jedi knights pre patch 9 on BRIA which was the largest server of all!

There's only 7 combat classes of which Jedi is the only specialist melee class..... plus the fact that it's... Jedi, and a starter class trying to argue it's not played more now than in the CU is a bit silly imo. Jedi are absolutely everywhere in the NGE, there's nowhere near the same percentage now as there were in the CU.
Just to prove I'm not pulling numbers out of my arse like you, I just logged on
Theed, 6 people total, 3 of which were Jedi
Mos Eisley, 9 people total, 4 Jedi
Restuss, 9 people total, 5 Jedi
Obviously that's not counting the dozens of afk entertainers that really help immerse you into the Star Wars world

I heard the next chapter SOE will be giving out Vet rewards. Specifically anyone who unlocked force sensitive prior to the CU and NGE.
the vet reward will be your choice of cookie. Chocolate chip, white chocolate macadamia nut, oatmeal, sugar. It has endless charges that you can use that will cause players around you to drop to their knees and bow their heads to the player who has said cookie.
dont quote me on this though

Considering the servers are down for the normal maint, it's interesting that you were able to just log in and get those numbers
Using the GCW rank stats here, looking at the Chilastra stats, you'll see that there are 190 Jedi out of 510 total GCW Officers. So, 37% of the active PvP population is Jedi - not the majority. Of course, this isn't completly accurate since these stats only include those with GCW Officer ranks which generally is limited to those that are active PvP'ers.

Don't know your favourite game very well do you?
Euro servers have different maintenence times, they have done since they were set up back in Nov '03.
Also, officer stats can't just be deemed as the pvp populous, there's General's on flurry with lifetime kills that don't even hit triple figures, they rank up through pve and space content. So yeah, those figures aren't only pvp'ers.

That they do, my mistake for forgetting
As another intersting stat, using that site I mentioned above, the overall % of Jedi GCW officers in the game is 34% of the entire games GCW Officer population.
Wurm Online is totally skill based. You are able to build houses etc whereever you want. And the crafting is really complex, you need to create all the tools that you will need to create all the parts for a specific tool. You are able to terraform the landscape etc.. And when you have become strong you may want to travel to the Wild server where there is open pvp. Oh, and when you die you lose all your inventory and also lose some skills i think.
old SWG will never be again... it sucks, but it's the truth.
It's remarkable how uninformed most people here seem to be regarding this subject. Pre-NGE SWG may indeed be coming back very soon (but no thanks to Sony/LA). Google "SWGemu", "SWGanh", "True Galaxies", or "Spraticnet" for more information.
And sorry Obraik, but NGE Star Wars Galaxies is just not a MMORPG many of us are interested in playing. You would have thought that post NGE subscription numbers would have made it clear. But since it hasn't - and we've been told time after time by SOE/LA that an official Pre-NGE server is never going to happen - then surely they won't object if we create 'unofficial' Pre-NGE servers for ourselves.
I'm in the same boat. I'm trying to get back into MMO's after Sony's screw-job, but nothing seems to quite fit the pre-CU bill...at least anything I care to pay for. The game you (and I) want doesn't exist anymore.
In my opinion, the closest thing you'll find to the pre-CU (with nice graphics) is either Ryzom or Eve. I was never really into the pilot part, so Eve isn't quite my bag. I flirted with Ryzom's trial for a bit, but couldn't pull the trigger (personally, I thought the lore was kinda goofy).

As more and more people became Jedi, it was only inevitable that something would be done to bring them down to an equal level so they were no longer the only viable profession.
Im not talking about the CU that was nearly as worse as the NGE im talking about Pre patch 9 Jedi grind now that was a hard grind especially for me since i was a wookie and all jedis grinded with armour and there was no such wookie armour back then except that sucky one.Hologrinded jedi is the only true jedis and that was how it was supposed to be .. the village and all that was just to soften up people for the NGE.
As was I. Pre-pub 9 was also just a grind. All you had to do was grind up the professions until you hit the magic professions that was your combo. With sologroups, grinding XP wasn't really that hard it just took time. Time is not a good restriction.
Now? theres a couple of thousands

Eve Online - Deja Nay
Obviously that's not counting the dozens of afk entertainers that really help immerse you into the Star Wars world
...The spread of secondary and latterly of tertiary education has created a large population of people, often with well developed literary and scholarly tastes, who have been educated far beyond their capacity to undertake analytical thought.

Considering the servers are down for the normal maint, it's interesting that you were able to just log in and get those numbersUsing the GCW rank stats here, looking at the Chilastra stats, you'll see that there are 190 Jedi out of 510 total GCW Officers. So, 37% of the active PvP population is Jedi - not the majority. Of course, this isn't completly accurate since these stats only include those with GCW Officer ranks which generally is limited to those that are active PvP'ers.
no that has allready been done you see when they implented the NGE the ones that had grinded for months and years to become jedi prepatch 9 got the title Elder Jedi! so we were special ...... next day there came two NGE jedis and grinded to knight in less then one week HORRAY!

That they do, my mistake for forgettingAs another intersting stat, using that site I mentioned above, the overall % of Jedi GCW officers in the game is 34% of the entire games GCW Officer population.
Good luck.
