I say check out Ryzom. It's a sandbox style game that is  totaly skill based. You also get to build your own attacks and spells. And there is a free trial with no credit card needed. Just go to Ryzom.com and DL the client. You get put on a newbie island that last time I checked had a lvl cap of 20 per skill level. If you get lost don't be afraid to ask the player base is very hepful and mature.

    How is FFXI skill based?

Whoever said EVE....lmao. You win based on money and how old your account is. You click your guns and sit there, if you have high skills and good gear, you win.

A skill based game would be Daoc, GW, or UO.

I have to say I agree with you, Devildog.  I played SoR for quite some time.

Not only are the skills personalized, I love the fact that this is the only game that got rid of my CRS.

You're like every other broken record on this forum.  That statement has been disproven by the game's players time and time again, yet people constantly say it, still believing it to be true so that they can have an excuse to hate the game.

Edit:  You also apparently don't know what a skill-based game is.  Note - skill based, not twitch based.  Skill based games are those in which there are no classes, and instead a single character can go down whatever path he chooses depending on what skills he takes.  There are no limits to only taking certain skills as there are in a class game.  UO is the only truly skill-based game out of the ones you mentioned.

Anyway on topic if you want to try eve look for a corperation called EvE University. Its a corp whos centrall goal is to train newbies. So inother words a good way to start. You even get free ships and equiptment to help you on your way.

This is a good question.  Thank you OP.  I too would like to see some good "Skill Based" games (As I have stated in other posts) but I have yet to see one, other than UO.  That was a true skill based MMO.  I have seen a couple games here mentioned (And debunked as not true Skill basd MMO's) but to keep this thread alive at least a few minutes longer, does anyone know of any skill based MMO's not only that are already out, but perhaps some that are in development?  I would like to break the monotony of everyone being in a race to level XX, and see some true character development and depth based on individual skill selection... if it truly exists out there (Outside of UO.)

Had to burst your bubble I only have 3mill SP and took out a 3/4 year vet sorry but you are just totally wrong 3 mill SP is what 3 or 4 months skilling?

As for money used items worth what 200 mill ? Not really alot compared to what others spend. It is down to groups you are with and what ships you fly also the tactics you use to take an oponent down.

Next time know a game before you post to bash it all Vets get in the game is more diversity in what roles they can play. It is quite possible for a new person to take out vets from 4 months onwards.

Classic UO will probably take my vote because the "goal state" is more achieveable then EVE. Fury might come in second.
