BEIJING - A man in southern China appears to have died of exhaustion after a three-day Internet gaming binge, state media said Monday.

The 30-year-old man fainted at a cybercafe in the city of Guangzhou on Saturday afternoon for playing games online for three days, the Beijing News reported.

Paramedics tried to revive him but failed and he was declared dead at the cafe, it said. The paper said that he may have died from exhaustion due to too many hours on the Internet.

The report did not say what the man was, his name was also not given.

The report said that about 100 other Web surfers "left the cafe in fear after witnessing the man's death."

China has 140 million Internet users, second only to the United States. It is one of the world's biggest markets for online games, with tens of millions of players, many of whom hunker down for hours in front of PCs in public Internet cafes.

Several cities have clinics to treat what psychiatrists have dubbed "Internet addiction" in users, many of them children and teenagers, who play online games or surf the Web for days at a time.

This news has been reported twice already during the last week.

If we keep with this rate, there will be 1000s of alleged deaths by the end of the year, when actually only 1 died.

Then let's all complain that the media make a big fuss about, when we, the game comunity, are the first to spread panic among ourselves.

I'm skeptical about this report. China has been gearing up to ban MMORPGs altogether (why should a person be playing games when they could be working 18 hours a day instead?), and this supposed incident could just be something they blew out of proportion or invented to eventually use as a pretext.

Much like when you hear our politicians here in the US say that videogames are causing violent behavior, etc..

     I don't think it's a spread of  terrorific, a warm-kinded attention.

An adult should have ability of self-control.

I've played 3 days periods many times without dying.

He must've been weak or forgotten to eat and drink, walking around his chair and having your legs high for better circulation.

But in China there is no food.

Don't know what everyone gets upset about. It's just another Chinese population control method.
