So is SOE going to give us credit for this downtime or are they just gonna say screw it and take our cash?
Sir/Madam, every MMO has server hardware/softward down time. EQ2's down time of 14-24 hours today is menial compared to blizzard's weekly tuesday morning/afternoon server matainence, which can be up to 14 hours weekly. I can't remember the last time EQ2 was down for more than a hour
I've just received an email from SOE, personally apologizing for having to take 14-24 hours of down time today to be able to upgrade their account and authorization systems. In recompense, I am to receive:
A free hour tacked on to my playtime this month.
Double experience for my characters for a month.
Free access to all SOE games for a month including software downloads.
The ability to choose one player on my server and kill his character forever.
An SOE t-shirt.
Access to the little-known "hot coffee" mod for EQ2.
A personal apology from the CEO of SOE, including the ability to kick his dog.
Nine free booster packs for Legends of Norrath and the ultra-rare "kick over the game table - I win!" card.
A personal visit from Keanu Reeves to explain the benefits of playing "The Matrix" (I am holding out for Carrie-Ann Moss).
Full and legal possession of Smedley's Cadillac Escalade (low milage!)
Title to a small island in the Pacific where I can be king and rule benevolently over my subjects there.
An I-pod.
While I understand that from time to time large companies like SOE have to upgrade their software and hardware, I think it is important to remember that we are the customers who pay for their services and that without my $15 a month SOE would be have no choice but to close their games, fold up their tent and start making games for the N64. I would not like to see that happen. I am content that the offers listed above are a good beginning step towards compensating me for the 14-24 hours that I will not be able to play EQ2, and that SOE, were they to sweeten the pot a little (Carrie-Ann Moss), would find that I would be more able to understand and accept their actions in this matter.
I will let you all know if I hear from them again.

Yes..
I laughed over this post...the uptime on this game has been phenomenal...and they are complaining about downtime...on Halo3 DAY!
Go buy Halo3 and that should take the rest of the time..(12 hours total playtime to beat single player)
SOE gets alot of crap throwen at them, sometimes warranted and sometimes not, but they are pretty good at keeping servers up the majority of the time. Today is the first time in over 2 years (when the CU went Live) that the SWG servers will have been down this long.
If you read the EULA though that you get when you start Launchpad you'll find a line in their that says they don't guarantee that the servers will be up when you want to access them or something to that extent.
So we going to get money for the downtime or what? Seems kind of unfair that they would charge us for a day that we can't play. Double xp doesn't help me, I want to know if we get credit for downtime in something real.

Your kidding right? Is this the first time that you have played a mmporpg before? This is one of the best for constantly being online aside from Entropia Universe and your whining about what amounts to 0.47999999999999999999 cents. Try playing some of the games coming out of Korea or China and you will see that you have little to complain about and if you cant aford to loose slightly less than half a dollar then you shouldnt be playing online games or have a computer for that matter.
In the original EQ eula it stated something to the fact that the servers only have to be available half the month and that is all they guarantee or something like that. I remember it being 50% though and that they would not issue any refunds whatsoever.
Someone can correct me if i am wrong. That has been over 7 years ago that I looked at it.......
I have never actaully looked at the eq2 eula ever and i know they have changed the eq1 eula at least 2 times.
Well, I don't see any reason to give my money to SoE anymore then if they are not going to give me a refund for my time. WoW sure looks good, I hear they have downtime but never for a full 24 hours. This must be the reason why WoW makes more money then all of the SoE games combined. See you in WoW!

Here's a thought:
If one is going to create a new account simply to troll, one should be required to at least put a little effort into doing so.
Otherwise, all you've done is bolster and strengthen the position of the ones you are trying to troll.
