I have just started playing EVE and after a couple weeks of game play I have become completely obsessed with it. I love how it is so different from every game out there and how you can make the game what you want it to be. But with all that being said I don't understand why I have to wait 13 almost 14 days to train a skill that I need to fly the ship that I have the money for now. Don't get me wrong, in no way do I want any kind of instant gratification because if you get everything you want right away later on the game would be extremely boring with no point. But it is not fun wait around 2 weeks for your skill to train before you can have fun on a new ship. I know you can do things in between training, but there has got to be a better way for to train in EVE.............

If you focus on playing the game with what you have, it's amazing how fast the skills add up. It's hard not to think about what's next, especially since you have to plan for it, but it really helps. Besides, even after you get the new ship there is T2 and rigs and implants. I have been playing since 2005, and still put as much effort and planning into my skills as I did when I started. Maybe more. This is one of my favorite things about EVE. I you focus on mastering the moment (doing more with what you have right now) the training will go faster, and you will be ready for the next skill when the time arrives....IMHO
Be happy now, The ability to have the cash for ships that you can't fly yet is something that will be reversed later on especially when you deal with the large T2 ships and Capitals.
I know what you are saying. I am waiting 8 more days for my T2 Heavy Launchers. I do have some fuel for thought however.
The skill training system does
A) Slow down advancement, there for increase the longevity of the game.
Allow those without a lot of time to remain competitive with those who do.
C) Assists in making sure you halfway know what you are doing before you fly that new ship
D) Gives long time players an advantage over new players while allowing new players to use skill / new approches to overcome long term players. (Like it takes 2 days to bring a skill from 1 to 4, and 11 days to bring it from 4 to 5. That 11 days gives you a 5% advantage in that stat over the 2 days, nothing real life skill can't overcome).
E) Frustrates the heck out of me, I WANT MY T2 LAUNCHERS!!!
the skill training system i one i love as there is no XP grind.
that being said, have you done the things to maximize your learning speed? got your learning skills to 4 and your adveanced learning to at least 3? got a good set of implants?
As always: Do NOT under ANY circumstances get in a ship "because you can."
Piloting a ship is not flying a ship.
Anyone can pilot a HAC (Heavy Assault Ship) in less then two months. Train the reqs and "right click > make active." However, it takes years (see approx 15 million skil points) to FLY a HAC.
Choose wisely.
Advancing too fast in ship navigation will lead you to pilot ships that are under equiped. A player who has been in game longer and has higher weapon and logistic skills would own you in a battle. better to outfit a smaller ship with better equipment. Also coprorations can use noob pplayers as tacklers. (warp jamming largerships to your corp mates can come in for the kill) You'll eventually get the larger ships, but you'll also be able to equip them properly.
This may be a conservative estimate when you consider all the other things, that have nothing to do with an HAC, a person may want to train....Choose wisely is excellent advice. I think it important to completely fill out each ship before moving to the next....This seems to help focus the character and the training time....But thats just the way it seems to me.
And I dislike people complaining about how much they dislike EVE's skill training.
On a more serious note this topic was cheqwed threw so often that it's "deader" than a dead horse. The advantages as well as disadvantages should be clear to anyone giving it more than 10 seconds of thought.
Get used to it. EVE is not a level up grinder, where you can reach lvl 70 in 3 weeks and then go raid the dungeons for "leet" stuff.
There is no "best" character in EVE, there is no "best" ship in EVE, there is no "best" weapon in EVE, there is no "best" Armor in EVE.

It all sucked.
If you want to jump ahead...buy a character that is already trained. But dont come crying here when you die the first time you undock. The only skill a player really needs is reading level 3.
Decide what you want to do, look through the data base for what you will need. Then train that area. Invest a few million SP into the learning skills. You will be amazed at the drop of the learning curve. DONT buy expensive implants...they really only save a day or two on the full skill training. Not to mention, when you die (you will die) your not out several million ISK.
Dont buy ships, mods, or skills untill you really need them, or can use them. Nothing worse then seeing a noob in a tech II ship with named tech I gear. Or small laser turrets.....
Dont fall for the "All the money is in 0.0 "ploy..because it isnt.
Dont fall into the "Missions are the best" ploy...cause that will get you killed quicker then goose can shit...Not to mention they get real old real fast...
Take your time, explore Eve, and what it has to offer. If you jump into the fight right out of the download...well your going to have a bad experience with a real good game.
2 weeks? battleship V cost me 38 days...
could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?
2 weeks? battleship V cost me 38 days...

Only if you don't learn how to make isk.
I've never been able to fly a ship I couldn't easily afford to obtain. And I'm not even particularly good at making isk.

Take the time to train your learning skills up to 4 (not 5) first. It will save you time in the long run.

Awaiting 40k Online and wishing for Battletech Online
This post is in reply to the OP. Don't expect the training to change. Its usually not a good idea to fly ships you are just able to fly, because there are many skills you need to fly a ship well enough to not just be a sitting duck in it. After 6 months of playing, I was still working on skills to fly my Raven better.
When you can really fly a ship well, you'll be able to handle alot more and deal more dmg with the build.
As far as I know they are going to be doing graphical updates like giving avatars (peeps) for players instead of ships, its at first not going to do anything but add some graphics to the game.
Maybe one day they will add you to create a queue in the game where you can have more than one skill set to train. I remember when civlization first came out f or PC, and there was no queue. Eve online reminds me of that game that was back in 1987.......
Master of Magic also in 1985, same time frame had no queue. If you look at warcraft 2, in that same time frame, no queues. Nowadays, they will allow queue's in games like this, CIV 4, etc.....
Don't expect them to add queu's any time soon....
With regard to you're issue with training for a few weeks for a new ship, that exxasperates itself as you continue to play, notice someone's timeframe for training BATTLESHIP 5. Ask yourself if you really want to pay real $$ for that skill....
One of the biggest things that caused me to have issues is that if I set a skill, I could stop paying, and that skill would still train whether I was paying or not. So you could set a skill that is a few weeks or month+ and then set up when your ready to come back just after the skill finally trains, basically maximizing your training versus how much your paying in real world $$.
When you get scammed in this game, your not just getting scammed for fake money. ISK translates into real $$..... since you can pay ISK for your game time, instead of real $$.

The game is dead not, this game is good we make it and Romania Tv give it 5 goat heads, this is good rating for game.
