The reason that it is being released in mid-October has to do with RG's ride into space on the soyuz space shuttle. The Russians want assurances of their money or they'll find another tourist. It is unsure who is paying for it, but RG has said many times in public that he does NOT have the funds. It's reasonable to think that NcSoft must be paying for it, to the tune of $30M--which, btw, is the same amount Microsoft spent to develop Halo 3.

Space Adventures, an outfit RG is associated with financially, negotiates the ride deal with the Russians, and must announce in October the name of the next space tourist. This is what is driving the release date--Space Adventures.

It is amazing to think that NcSoft would do this.

Just went to start downloading the patch so I can take a look at what has been added and what has been newly broken and what message do I find in the launcher?

"Access will be restricted to Concordia, Torden and Valverde..."

three weeks and one patch left before this goes live and they still don't have the entire game online, and, seeing as the last patch will be on the 9th, they will have only 3 days to sort out any problems with the rest of the maps (god only knows how borked the instances are).

pretty bad really, I can see the first three months being nothing but bugs/balancing/and more beta

    It could be that yes.........

Did you perhaps stop to think that maybe they just dont want you to go past the first 3 main zones ?  Its an open beta.  They dont want you to see the whole game in Open beta (Obviously I know this isn't likely due to time restraints).

I can see where you are coming from but would you be able to at least consider that a possibility before coming to the conclusion that the rest of the zones are not online.

I'm really hoping they pull off a miracle as I have been waiting for this game since it was announced but there are just some very basic stability and scalability issues that should have been addressed long ago. The constant crashes might be ok as I am sure the servers are set to crash and dump debug output whenever a problem occurs but the lag is inexcusable. This isn't a first generation MMO, it shouldn't have first generation issues.

Yeah with this recent patch I'm getting a bit worried.  Prior to that patch the game seemed pretty stable but there was a server crash of some sort and a roll back.  Now the server seems to be crashing a lot.  Ha I just had a nasty idea I wonder if they are crashing the server on purpose to make sure the roll back data update bug isn't a problem still.  Wow now that would be an optimistic dream..

Unfortunately in my opinion there is no such thing as a miracle patch.  I've never ever ever after beta testing near every mmorpg ever released seen a game released that substantially was any better then it was in beta.  In fact in many cases the game was worse then in beta because little issues under load blew up into huge issues...

I generally like the game but won't be able to tollerate crashing servers and crashing clients, for me thats a complete showstopper....

nope, didn't even consider that at all, especially seeing as, three weeks ago, the only things that were offline were certain instances. You could get to all the communal maps.

they are limiting people to only those areas to try to give themselves some breathing room to sort out the bugs they have with the offline maps and instances

as it is, this patch has only made things worse than they were previously, and I didn't think they could break it any more than they already had, boy was I wrong

Well the biggest hurdle to me is the fact that they can't even keep the server up for more than 30 mins at a time before it crashes and is down for at least 30 mins. 3 weeks from launch? I smell a Vanguard coming...

Well this is the first time I have seen the servers showing High load on the login screens.

And so you would expect servers to crash if the load is too great. Thats what load testing is about - stressing your servers until they crash so you know what they can actually support, and make any changes (if possible) to reduce load.

Far better for the servers to be crashing now (annoying as it is for people wanting to try the game) than after the game goes live.

This post over on the beta boards.

Well, we are still working out some server issues, but in the meantime, since the issue is related to load we are going to bring up another US server to try and spread out the load a bit and hopefully allow for a bit more stability while we work on the problem. Again, we apologize for the problems but appreciate the community still testing and helping us try to resolve the issues. You guys rock.

while this is certainly true, I find it troubling that they cannot keep mor than one server online at any one time, but yes, better now than live, but it doesn't bode well

Jeez, look at Vista.  I've seen countless posts of people saying they won't touch it with a 10 feet pole, for at least 6 months to a year.  The software industry is pathetic, and trust me, I'm on the inside of it.  But, this is a story for another time.

You make quite the valid point my friend.  I agree with you for the most part.  Except that I would like one person to show me any proof that they've played through any MMO without ever needing a patch ?

    Good luck with that.

Although, your point is so taken.  Games these days should be coming out with less bugs in the beginning and the fact that TR has had limited beta even this far out, is nothing short of fatal.

As far as Vista goes.........I ask anyone here "Who didn't expect that?"

(It might not have been as many but......) All of their OS's have had problems when first released.  As a general rule they aren't that good until about Service Pack 2 (Which is what I usually consider the release candidate).  Its Microsoft though.  What do they care.

Sorry, every mmo I've ever known has undergone patches - I was talking about single player games.

Well, people in the know, know that MS OS's suck the pooch when first released, and even many patches later.  But, think of the millions? of "noob" pc users who don't know a thing about patches, service packs, and so on.  All those poor sods who buy off the shelf "ready to use" pc's...

I build my own pc's.  I have about 10 pc's now, and 5 more in parts. :)   Ack, time for a new KB I think.. Even with the silicone spray, the keys are sticking..  maybe some wheel-bearing grease?

One slight problem with that. I'm a European, so I'm in a good position to see the US servers crashing with a nice regular interval even while their population shows 'low' all the time.

Since when did you become european?

They did put in a hotfix on the US servers at some point, I can't really say when.  I played this morning for an hour and a half without it crashing. Of course server 2 was the only one open.  Apparently they are also testing the cross server chat, I'm not sure if that has anything to do with the crashes.  I know a dev said it was primarily due to load, but that can be debated. I've been on server 2 that had minimal load and it's gone down. No worries, I'm sure they'll get it right before the weekend.

NDA was lifted three weeks ago

However, if they were smart they would have kept it in effect until this dog's breakfast went live and people had already been sucked in to spending their money on it.

Aha! That would have been the week I was travelling with no regular Internet access. Duh.

Of course, it would have helped if I hadn't uninstalled the TR beta last month. I was running low on drive space -- I only had 242 GB free and wanted to reclaim that spot occupied by TR.

I personally like the game and the concept but playing with the beta has really turned me off as I see it not getting any better in the future. I'll probably "take a look" back after it's been in the market for a year or so, or if it goes Free 2 Play as I don't see many people subscribing IMO.

i agree .  i would nt buy it but in a year or so if theres a free trial i ll give it another go to see how its improved . i like some of what i ve seen .i gather from reading articles on the net theres been a lot of problems in the games development . i wish it well but at present its not for me .

  • googajoob7googajoob7 Member Posts: 866

i am playing archlord now and again too not too shabby for a free game either that . i personally cant see tb being anywhere near ready by november 2 nd . i ve now seen it being played on three average pcs (all puchased in the last 12 months )through three different broadband connections (the kind most of us have ) ie dual core pentium. 1 -2 gig  memory ok nvidea  or radeon graphics card etc and in all cases tabula rasa does nt run smoothly as i would expect as yet . these are all pcs that run the likes warcraft , dungeons and dragons stormreach and lord of the rings online well . i m hoping for tabula rasas sake it really is just down to it being in its beta phase and not that it ll only run well on higher spec machines because it really needs to play well on the average mid range pc to get a half decent user base and be a success . i d be interested to hear how other people with mid ranged pcs purchased within the last year are finding it ?
