The AV Club has a good write up on it.
O'Reilly has learned that black people own and run restaurants too! And, despite what you might think, those restaurants are exactly like restaurants run by white people, with tables and chairs, and food, and everything: O'REILLY: "And I couldn't get over the fact that there was no difference between Sylvia's restaurant and any other restaurant in New York City. I mean, it was exactly the same, even though it's run by blacks, primarily black patronship. It was the same, and that's really what this society's all about now here in the U.S.A." |
O'Reilly was also pleasantly surprised to find that black people can exist outside of rap videos, with all of their "M-Fer this, M-Fer that." Turns out, some black people can sit down and eat in a restaurant without yelling obscenities—just like white people! O'REILLY: There wasn't one person in Sylvia's who was screaming, "M-Fer, I want more iced tea." WILLIAMS: Please-- O'REILLY: You know, I mean, everybody was -- it was like going into an Italian restaurant in an all-white suburb in the sense of people were sitting there, and they were ordering and having fun. And there wasn't any kind of craziness at all. |

Hopefully O'Rielly will maybe park his car next to some black people and NOT have it stolen next week... Who would have thunk it...

I find it very funny how quotes can be spun to make others look bad. If you want to see a more complete account of the show, here it is:

O'Riley was being sarcastic, bottom line. It was an ongoing referrence to how black youths can confuse hip-hop culture with black culture.
Edited for being a dumb ass. The link was provided above.
Just not worth my time anymore.
QFT except "It was an ongoing reference to how black/white youths confuse hip-hop culture with black culture."
If history has shown us anything, this is a mock/sarcasmic/scriped "story" he has done, planned by Fox of course, to get in the news at the expense of the Jena 6 thing. Nobody allowed to have his/her own show is this ignorant without being so purposely.
But on the other hand, I have to defend him. He probably really never has been to a "black" resturant before, its usually one of the things that comes with the title of "racist cock sucker".

You mean the VERY LInk THAT I PROVIDED!?!
And no... he wasn't being Sarcastic.. He was using his experience and the opening of his eyes to tell other people that Black people dont actually act like 50Cent or other rappers.... No sarcasm... maybe you used a wrong word to describe what you were thinking..

O'rielly is fairly funny most of the time. I am not saying I agree with him or my thoughts are similar. Hes just funny as hell on somethings and I generally don't take him seriously in anything he says.
I haven't seen what was said yet. Tho I caught something about it on the news yesterday and never looked into it. I'll check the links out in a few. I was kinda curious to begin with what exactly was said and in what context. I just never followed up on looking into it.

Are you mad about it? It seems he was having a conversation with Juan Williams and they both were talking about the stereotype attached to blacks because of the hip hop culture.

Bah!!! /faceplam. Many apologies and I fixed it.
As far as my use of the word sarcasm it has to do with the examples he gave like "M-Fer, I want more iced tea".
Just not worth my time anymore.
I like to describe Bill O'Reilly with: "lol".
While I think Mr. O'Reilly is a conniving, no-good, losery, truth-defying weirdo, the fact that he's amazed about it shows that he's learning something. Which is actually pretty good.
Does it mean he's heavily stereotypical/racist? Yeah. But if he's sincerely learning that Blacks Are People Too, more power to him.

I am gonna take a shot at this. I realize I am not as educated as some people on here. never claimed to be. I am always open to learn and discuss my beliefs on anything, They are never concrete if they prove to be wrong on any matter. Overall the race card does generally get pulled way to often when is not needed. So that when its actually needed or applyable to a situation, no one listens.

Context:
Ok I am listening to it atm. And half way thru before the cutt-off (not sure how much is missing between the begining and the part where it cuts to the caller.) All i hear is a guy (O'Reilly) saying that we are starting to move beyond pulling the race card out everywhere you go in life. And that the need for equal rights organizations is going down in some places. Due to racial equality being the norm. not the exception.
So whats exactly wrong with this part of his comments.
******Sadly its not happening fast enough in some places. I have personally been turned down for a job, that I was the most qualified for. A position at one of Budweisers labeling plants located here in Clarksville after I got out of the Army. I have a friends father who is the head honcho out there. Budweiser is an equal opportunity employer and they also have a certain racial quota that they have to keep. There was only one position open and he had been keeping me informed a year ahead of the opening that one might be coming up while I was still in the Army stationed in Korea. Now anyone who has directly worked for Budweiser knows that they have high employee retention because of their awsome health care and pay. Thats the 1 and only reason that I got turned down, because there were not enough non-white eployees currently at the labeling plant. ******

Ok I am at the start of the caller part and what I hear again is a guy saying "there is no difference between a black and white restaurant."
Meaning quality of service food and enviroment compared to other restaurants. what is wrong with that?
Which sounds like a compliment. Considering, how tv shows, movies , and cartoons might lead a person to believe differently. "Barbershop" anyone? Or how about MTV's "White Rapper " reality show. I could go on..... But theres no need to because it happens everywhere you look in our culture today. If anything is the enemy here it is our culture as a whole. Where it is funny to make fun of what should not be joking subjects.
Or is everyone pissed off because he ate coconut shrip and had an Ice tea. I can eat that anywhere Long John Silvers , Red Lobster, you name it and if they serve seafood they probably have it.
This also is in reguards to his M-Fer comments.
Who does not drink Ice Tea. And what kind of situation outside of the topic could this phrase be said about? I know I say M-fer get me a beer plenty. Am I being raciest. Or just an ass.
Had he said "Watermelon" . I think there would be some cause for concern.

Moving on.... the talk about Gangsta Rap. Do I even need to address this. Half of the people who are raising hell about this probably listen to half these songs and don't realize what the hells being said. They are just into the phat beats while the lyrics recite a recipe for Meth. or how such and such is gonna beat the snot out of LLCoolJ, or how Eminem wants to kill his girlfriend. Country music , Rock , and every other form of music do the same thing. And get frowned upon for it by certain groups of people. I see no racial remarks or oppression here.
Because unlike most genre's of music Rock&Roll (Dee Snider, Twisted Sister) went to court as a whole group of artists and proved their right to say such things in their music. Has rap in general been attacked and sent to the judicial system to get mass ban on the genre..... No.. Because artists have already won them that right to say such things.
If i walked up to you and asked "whats that black rappers name?" You would look at me like I was stupid.. And need a song , looks , album, some sort of reference to help figure out who I was talking about.
If I walked up to you and said "who is that white country singer." You would look at me like I was stupid. And need a song , looks , album, or some sort of reference to help figure out who I was talking about.
How ever If I said " who is that white rapper?" you could slowly go thru the list of familar names and within a minute or 2 figure out who I was referenceing because whites would be the minority of successfull (widely known) rappers.
If I said who's that "Black country singer?" you could slowly go thru the list of familar names and within a minute or 2 figure out who I was talking about, because blacks would be the minority of successfull (widely known) country singers.
I do not consider it a racial slur for Mr. O'Reilly to reference blacks to rap. However its a bit dated this day in time to be referencing blacks to rap.
But then again I look at Mr. O'Reilly and see an old fogey who was around at the birth of Hip Hop.
I also hear that caller for over a minute making these references more than O'Reilly has.
O'Reilly's bannging on Luda, and those other 2 briefly for their lyrical content.
**********************************************************************
Over all,
I here O'Rielly being supportive of the black community. Saying that the stereo typing done by T.V., music, and corperations is not the reality when it comes to race anymore. He is talking about a nice experiance he had at a restuarant, about a culture he obviously was not very familiar with.
O'Reilly pisses alot of political figures off with his shows. And honestly thats all I think is going on here. A possable way to silence yet another voice. Who in all honesty should never have been taken more seriously than a pet goldfish on any of his remarks in this show or any for that matter.
Hes a shock jock, and he likes ot get a reaction out of people. Thats why i think hes funny as hell. Because I honestly don't believe he believes half the shit he talks about on the majority of his shows.
Perception means alot tho I guess. So different people from different backgrounds will look at it differently than I may. But meh whatever, these guys are better off going after people actually comitting crimes against humanity rather than this guy.

Reason for Edit: Just fixing a few typo's I noticed.
CONTEXT:
No my originaly post was not about hating on Bill O'Reilly or pulling the race card and calling him Racist or anything...
I just think its REALLLY SILLY that still TODAY people dont realize that Black people dont act like how black people are portrayed on TV and in music Videos...
And Bill's comments go to show that. Its great that he knows now.. but good grief... he should of known years ago...

I despise Bill O'Reilly, but I thought he was just shining light on a point he was trying to make. Maybe I'm wrong, but he's not that naive.

Did you think I was referencing or aiming my post directly at yourself? I realise your the OP and all. But unless your publishing those stupid headlines or telling the news anchors that Bill O'Reillys raciest because he enjoyed eating at a black restaurant.
I was aware of what all was spreading around in the news before you posted. Just never actually heard what he actually said and how he said it. I figured it was stupid nonsense to begin with so I never followed up on it. Your post just encouraged me to actually look into it. So I just posted my thoughts on what I was reading and hearing on those links. And what the media has been harping on him about.
*****Edit: fixing typos , guess I will start proof reading one of these days. and just added that last bit in cause it came to mind. Tho think someone might have already said it.
Its never to late to experiance new things. Thats how we learn and grow to better ourselves and lifestyles. To frown upon or make fun of someone that is going outside the box, is wrong. Thats how we stagnate as a society. I applaud people for openly sharing their experiances "if they are genuine". Even in O'Reilly's case no matter what kind of BS he spreads or what kind of person he is.
*****Anyways I will shut my mouth. Back to trying to get my MoH to run right on this machine. For some reason in multiplayer its extremly choppy and I am getting stupid multi texturing error messages of all things.. Yes I know its not Halo..... ******
So he gets called a racist because he finds a black restaurant no different than a white one? even though neither exist. Not to mention the fact that Mediamatters really cut off a lot of what he was saying, which they tend to do.
The entire show he was doing was about showing that racism is stupid and shouldn't be tolerated.
It's another one of those, Let's pull one sentence out of a one hour show and say he's racist.
Exactly, like I said in my post. It was obviously "scripted sarcasm", and probably sparked by the events on that Jena 6 "story".
