Set in the times of medieval fantasy, this Massively Multiplayer Online Strategy Game is all about Command & Conquest, rule or be ruled. You are born into a leadership role, with the resources and support to create your own civilization and run it however you see fit. The blessing of power and leadership that has been bestowed on you is also your burden, as others seek to take what you have by force.

Not a bad article. I especially liked section 10 concerning True Loyalties. I honestly don't know why that hasn't already been done in a game.

Interesting article. I have a full (20+ page) document on the different parts of an MMORPG and how you would implement each. The point being that if you cannot fill a 20+ page document describing why your game is amazing, then why would anyone else find it amazing? The length is misleading however as it is mostly bullet points with topics such as lighting, environment, character control (what you control and how), and everything else under the Sun that would be contained within your MMORPG.
I wonder how many people are skeptical about sharing their unique and innovative ideas afraid that someone else will snatch it up and make a game out of it. Even though they probably would never have the resources to create the MMORPG themselves.
On a side note... does anyone else find it disturbing that "MMORPG" is not considered a real word by the mmorpg.com forum spell-checker? But other acronyms like MTG or MPH are? lol

Yeah, many are weary of throwing out their ideas for fear of others getting credit... But what is far worse then that, is having an idea that never gets heard, and goes to waste.
Figuring I'm in this same boat of people who have great ideas, but little to no resources/ambition to carry it out I posted my idea in the gameplay section of the Developers Corner. I think this kind of openness is beneficial to the MMO-community and should not be discredited.

And you guys are probably correct in thinking alot of people won't share ideas due to someone "stealing" them. Better that those ideas end up lost/dead than someone else using them to make a better game and making a little money.....sigh
Top 10 features...
Thats why every MMO since WoW has failed.
They only focus on 10 features... Make them good, and then screw with the rest.
Blizzard did a 100% job, by making every feature top notch.

Something tells me he didnt even read it.
Well done, but I must admit I cringed in terror as I read each point because they were all in the mmo I'm developing (working title Pendulum of Fates), but at 320 pages so far, my design document creates an entire reality and mechanism around it that yours did not (which will allow me to sleep tonight hehe) and solves the X# of reasons mmos are no longer any good. That aside, putting your ideas out there is a risk to say the least, because when someone steals your ideas and doesn't give you credit, every mention of it will be like daggers in your ears. Remember, knowledge is power, and has value. The game is meant to be sold, not told. Keep your head about ya.

Nice, Reborn.
Is this a project that is already underway? Or you just designing it?
In either case, good luck.
My mmorpg would be set in the future, the Ice age finally covers the planet, nations panic and disband. All there is left are coalitions, remainments of nations or groups of people that bind together to survive the ice age. Undoubtfully these coatlions fight, for heated land and resources. As in you, you will create your character and will be placed in the world of chaos and see what you can do to survive.
Several things you need to look over to survive -
Resources -
Clothing
Food
Weapons (Hehe)
Shelter
In the game the there is a coalitions called the "UCO" (United coalition order) which is ran by a NPC leader but its for people without a coalition and need shelter, food, clothing, ect (AKA noobz). When you start off you have some basic garments, your past is blurry, do not remember your family, all you know is that you need to survive. You are in a UCO refugee camp, some shelters, low supply on food, and clothing, you need more food.
The UCO officers hand you a hunters rifle, you must hunt for the food in order for the refugee camp to survive. Your first quest.. Once you finish the quest you'll be apointed militant wares such as a automatic machine gun of your choice, helmet, body armour, ect. They give you a camping set for shelter, and some food to survive for 4 days. They let you off in the wilderness (The online world) Which they fly you in and drop you off in a field somewhere. From here on you need to survive...on your own.
Professions -
Survivor - focuses on surviving, exploration, and hunting. Good in combat
Marine - You were once a soldier, till your nation fell, your specialitiy is fighting, and a bit on surviving
Leader - you were once a man of congress. A political leader once, you have limit combat experience and surviving ability, but you're great for managing coalitions.
Engineer - You fix things, drive things, build things (crafter). You know everything about anything that has a switch and wheels to it.
Scout - You focus on exploring the known world, and surviving abilities, tho your combat abilities are limited.
Professions could be better - note from me (SUGGESTIONS)
Coalitions - each player has the ability to make a coalition, mostly the profession: "leader". Coatlions work as a guild perhaps, recruit, ect. When you build a coalition you need a HQ, base of operations. you need a engineer for this, Once its placed the land surrounding it is YOURS. You gain more land by building more structures, IF you build in someones elses land they can declare war on you and destroy your coalition.
You are able to declare war on them for any reason, but building in someone elses territory automaticly declares war, to prevent noob slaughter the coalitions must be 100 days old + or they cant build in anyone elses territory. Each coalition will need a main base, which consist of several cool structures you can have, walls, turrets, houses, garage, ect.
The land is put into territories, you can overview it and see what coalitions control which and which land is N/A. It sort of a WWIIonline concept.
You gain EXP from hunting, and surviving X amount of days, levels go from 1 - 70. Combat would have a feel like oblivions combat, RPG but real time. You can get quest from UCO to gain EXP also, and faction score, and equipment.
Some issues you might have with this -
Lag - The whole map will be built in with load screens into each area so it doesn't go hayyywire on you.
Noob slaughter - level 1 - 10 UCO protects them, if you kill them unreasonably, you get a bounty and the UCO which aparently is the largest coalition will hunt you down and kill you, if you continue to do it UCO declares war on your coalition, if you have no coalition you're considered a national threat, and will be able to be shot by anyone, in order to give up, you need to go to the nearest UCO base unarmed and in surrender mode and you do community service till your negative faction is up.
Unpopulated areas - most people will start off in a area that needs to be populated.
Just a short sum of what I think, if you interested PM me and I'll give you the whole concept.

I have to agree with you on the first part, about why every MMO since WoW has failed, but I also have to disagree with the last part. The newer MMOs certainly are focusing on far too few features to make what constitutes a good game, but at the same time Blizzard focused on many extra features that most games ignore but skipped over some critical features that many people are unable to enjoy themselves without. I'm sure you are all familiar with the examples, so I won't go into them here, but I felt it was worth pointing out.
WoW, for what it is, is a great game. Dont need WoW to do everything, just need fresh ideas in new games.
