I just got to thinking last night about why i pay for and play WoW and came up with the answer for myself that i just like the gameplay and social interaction. After chatting to a couple of other people though, opinions varied, so i would just like to get an idea of why you play the game?
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.

I started to type up a list of bullet points as to what I like but I can sum it up better.
It ticks all the boxes, fun, humor, polish, commuinty, friendly, best PvE raid game, fun PvP, pwns all other MMO's
Hard to pin it down to a single thing. While there is much about WoW I do enjoy, I would have to say it's the social elements that have kept me interested.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
In any game, social interaction and group play is what does it for me. Playing solo = bye bye subscription.

First note this isnt a bashing attempt from me,this is my honest oppinion.
I cant recall why I ever liked about WoW and why I played it,I remember what got me into WoW (about 2 years ago) was my low lvl rogue, had tons of fun questing, and back then I dare say that gold sellers and clueless kids wasnt that big of a problem, atleast on my server.Main reason I quit WoW was the comunity (I was in a amazing guild but 80% of them quit WoW) and the 2nd reason was the gold sellers, yes I know blizzard is doing it's best to combat the gold sellers,WoW players (not generalizing) are the main reason for the huge gold seller population boom in all mmogs.
I just like creating characters and leveling them up. I have 9 characters, one of each class and have enjoyed them all. When I get them all to 70 I'll quit playing (until the expansion). Had 5 at 60 before BC, but have slowed down since then and don't play as often as I used to, so maybe that will never happen, but it's been fun trying to get there.
Polish. Almost everything I hated about MMOs before WOW were solved and it was apparent the 1st time I played in beta. Great guild too. Never had any issue withe the playerbase, but I had a network of friends already. Everyone they knew came to the guild, so finding groups and socializing was never a problem. I never found all these issues with rude strangers that everyone talked about and it was no worse than every other MMO since UO. There was just more of everyone.
I voted other for the lore/story. Blizzard has amazing writers for their games.
I voted other because what I enjoy most is the fact that it gives me something to do, while being fun at the same time. There are a lot of people who have nothing to do, and with WoW, if I'm not doing anything, it's where I turn.
I chose Questing, though I guess it could be grouping as well, because my wife & I pretty much only Duo quests & we love it. We can go out & enjoy ourselves without having to pay for a babysitter!
i would have to say exploring, but not in the traditional sense
im talking like going under stormwind, old IF, dwarved airstrip, all those unreleased zones and fun decorative places
you get the drift
idk, i think i just feel kind of unique and special when i do these things, altough of course im not even close to the first lol
hell sometimes when im bored ill give tours, sometimes of as many as 15 guys which is a blast
Heh, I'm kind of opposite. I like the nature of MMOs with their big worlds, class progression and some pvp on the side but I'm solo oriented. I group a fair bit too but I prefer solo. I guess people in general annoy me, especially in MMOs. I love WoW because I can solo most things, and not have to wait around forever for people to be ready to do what I need. And if I'm skilled and prepared enough I can solo some group quests too. Hate me anyone, but alot of MMO players are like me. I like MMOs because I can be part of a community, sometimes help people, but don't necessarily have wait around and rely on them all the time to do the majority of things I need to do. WoW is the most solo friendly MMOs out there, and its probably one of the biggest reasons I love it.
I love the questing. I love the exploring, I like how I don't have to PvP if I don't want to (unless I login to the test server that is ).
I wish I had grouped more but my guild went though an End Game Raiding phase, and I missed out on alot of dungeons.
When I return from taking a break from WoW . . . that level 70 human mage, on Zul'jin, running into a dungeon that is clearly too low for her, is just me. Why, yes my robes are off the rack.

The biggest plus for this game is that its newbie friendly.

Torrential: DAOC (Pendragon)
Awned: World of Warcraft (Lothar)
Torren: Warhammer Online (Praag)
Bit of a low vote overall, but despite the many complaints that i have seen levelled at WoW's community in the past, it still seems to be the major factor as to why people play the game.
Thx to all who voted.
It must be Thursday, i never could get the hang of Thursdays.
The thing I like the most, is kind of refreshing in today's MMO market, the ease of use.
Too many games today want to complicate everything down to needing scientific calculators to figure out every lil detail!!!
WoW allows the player to jump right in and start playing with very little thought or effort, and that is a good break from the other games IMO.
