crafting is broken and worthless the ui is uncustomizable and static no character respec a game mechanic that invites kill-stealing, spawn-camping, and griefing loads of broken and bugged missions so many 'placeholders' for mission rewards that are functionally useless severely unbalanced weapons a barren skill tree, that would be better scrapped no true character respec ability all high level weapons and skills are either borken, missing, or unbalanced (some of which will only begin to be balanced today - you can guarantee further balancing well after this turkey goes live) They are still 'balancing' central game mechanics at a stage where they should just be concentrating on polishing and bug-fixing clan functionality is either MIA or still broken no end-game to speak of (unless you do what they want and re-roll and start over) only one mission chain throughout the entire game ridiculous immunities for some mobs so many holes in the maps in general that you will be using /stuck far more than you would like to I can go on for hours on the deficiencies, and I have done so on the beta boards, only to be ignored, and, ultimately, banned for speaking my mind
That's more like it... Have you tried after today's patch? I haven't myself, just asking...
Crafting: something I would like to see is that you didn't need stations for consumables. I mean you take skills points from your pool to be able to craft, might as well have the option to replenish your ammo or e.g. med-stack on the fly.
You really seem not to like the cloning option, you mention respec twice Personally I like it, since IMO choices and tradeoffs are an inherent part of MMOs. However, currently the cloning system is pretty restrictive due to (from my point of view) the lack of knowledge about the game. Skill points are scarce, and you don't know whether the return on investment is worth it later on. Luckily it's a beta, so as a rule of a thumb I put at least one point in every skills so as to try them out.
I agree with you about camping/KS and such, though there is still the option to group. If that doesn't happen then the community is to blame, rather than the developer.
3 weeks? then you've not actually played the game when it was a lot more fun, I got into the beta prior to the july 3rd patch when it was a completely differerent beast. Back before they nerfed almost everything it was a lot more fun
as to the arguement of only two continents being playable, the other planet, areiki, was closed with the patch you came in one to force people to stay in the lower levels
as for cloning, at best it allows half a respec, and only if you are willing to waste a clone credit (previous to this patch you could clone all you wanted)
face it, it needs several more months of development before it's actually ready.
some people might be willing to support an open beta, but I won't. Perhaps it will be worth it in 6 months time, but I'll bet it's gone F2P by then
Games perfect coming from a lvl 50 (thats cap btw).
but should you have to reach cap before the game is fun? maybe they should put more attention on the journey (grind) before the destination (end-game)
when you boil it down all MMOs have the same quests, it's all more or less killer quests or delivery.... or a third one i can't remember... but at least the missions i ran up to level 10 had some kind of basis for me doing them, like gathering samples of alien DNA for the exobiologist to use, instead of like killing forest boragers for meat or tree lurkers to thin their numbers (i dunno, gathering DNA just seemed like a better way of doing the same old thing)
i don't think there's much new you can do with the same old quests, but that's just me
and as far as kill stealing - i've killed stuff that i've not gotten any xp or quest completion for xD guess it's just bad luck
"when you boil it down all MMOs have the same quests, it's all more or less killer quests or delivery"
I'd have to agree with this statement entirely. To tell the truth I doubt that there are that many MMOs that have wonderful, original grinding. It just goes against their nature or something. And when you're not grinding, you have to wade through an army just to kill one SOB to collect his head or something. And when you're not doing that, you're running around collecting stuff fron the environment or meeting someone you're told to introduce yourself to, who happens to live on the other side of the planet. If you can't stand those things, most MMOs might not be for you, unless they are primarily geared towards PvP. And the game's story doesn't lend itself to such things.
I am truly sad to see that the crafting is not as diverse or in depth as people here would like it to be. But then again, consider the world this is taking place in: almost everything would naturally be created by machines churning out 10,000 units of the same thing over and over. The concept itself doesn't lend to diversity. You can't forge a gun, you can't sew together a bio-suit.
But, with the amount of negativity in these posts, I must reconsider my decisions while looking for the next MMO to consume my time, my mind, and my money. Maybe if they dropped the monthly fee....
ps: if you do have access to the beta boards, best be careful how you phrase your negative comments regarding it, they appear to be banning people who don't think the sun shines out of garriot's ass and who think that TR is going to end up on the scrap heap
Or maybe your posts violated the forum rules.
We have created the following list of message board rules and guidelines to keep this an enjoyable environment for us all. Violations of these guidelines may result in your removal from this message board and/or potential suspension (or permanent closure), of your Tabula Rasa game account.
Thread/Post Content
1. Post in the correct forum and do not cross-post.
If you are unsure of where to place a post, choose the single most appropriate forum. No need to cross-post to multiple forums well see the post no matter where you place it. If you cross post or spam the forum, your posts will be removed.
2. Keep feedback constructive.
All feedback on the game is appreciated as long as it is constructive. Keep it straightforward and include examples and facts when applicable. For example, This game is **** ! or This game is dying! is not constructive feedback. I am way annoyed with the following things about the game and heres why is constructive and useful to us. The best way to get your opinions recognized is not to be abusive or offensive, but to be constructive and communicate in a mature fashion.
"I'm leaving" threads are removed or edited due to the inevitable flaming that immediately ensues. They are thus no more than troll threads. We welcome constructive feedback and are always sorry when a customer is unhappy.
"NERF X!" threads are removed for much the same reason as "I'm leaving" threads. They immediately turn into flame threads with little or no constructive information.
No ranting. Ranting is posting irate, unconstructive (usually vague) comments to "blow off steam." This is considered a form of trolling since ranting does little but end up in flame wars.
General Conduct
1. Abuse will not be tolerated.
No flaming, trolling, harassing, profanity, abusive language or abbreviations, personal attacks, racial, religious, ethnic, or sexual slurs.
This applies to both public threads and private messages. Do not link out from a post or private message to these types of content.
Flaming is defined as attacking others in harsh, personal terms.
Trolling is defined as deliberately posting derogatory, inflammatory comments/threads in order to bait other users into responding.
Personal attacks include, but are not limited to insulting a poster directly:
EX: You are stupid, you suck, and you should [censored].
Directly attacking another poster will result in a warning. If the behavior persists, you will be banned.
2. No character assassination threads.
Threads that single out a player for ridicule or to accuse someone of actions in-game will be removed without notice. Repeatedly targeting another person is considered ongoing harassment and is a severe violation of the forum rules. In-game violations need to be reported via the appropriate channels, such as the GM system, and email support. If you believe that in-game GMs and the support system have not provided a sufficient or timely response, you may submit an inquiry to members of the forum staff via PM. Public posts of such accusations will be construed as attempts to cause antagonism for its own sake.
No personal attacks against forum moderators or game developers. If you disagree with an action taken by a moderator, you can send your complaint via PM to the moderator or to support@plaync.com where it will be reviewed. Abuse of the devs or moderators (including in PM) is likely to result in an immediate, permanent ban from the message boards, and can result in the suspension of your game account.
3. No spamming or thread bumping.
There are no circumstances under which spamming or thread bumping is acceptable. If you ask a question on the board (not answerable by the Customer Service Knowledge Base) and it hasnt been addressed by a moderator, there is a reason for that (or there is not an answer currently available). Bumping or spamming will not make the answer appear any faster, so please refrain from doing it. This includes, but is not limited to: comments not contributing to the board, advertisements, cross posts, and messages posted repeatedly.
4. No Petitioning.
Do not create threads/posts to petition for game features, additions, changes, or other issues. You may post suggestions and/or ideas to the boards, but you may not create a petition for others to sign. This is bumping in disguise and will not be allowed.
5. No I Demand Answers threads.
Threads that make threats or use other combative language will be removed without notice. If you ask a question on the board and it has not been addressed by a moderator, there is a reason for that (or there is not an answer currently available). In the event of legitimate emergencies, or other unprecedented scenarios, we will endeavor to provide comments, even if it is only to state that there is no officially available information. However, this is not always possible.
11. Respect the opinions of others.
Often times arguments cant be won, so if you have a contrasting opinion, please state it simply and clearly. If necessary, agree to disagree with others who may have differing opinions. When discussions turn to long, hostile arguments, the thread will be closed or removed.
Also, do not dismiss other players by calling them whiners, fanbois, or other derogatory terms, or suggesting that they just quit. This is NOT constructive
well, considering that no evidence was provided other than the message telling me I was banned, I am more than inclined to believe that it has been my outspoken criticism over the shitty state the game is in, and the fact that the glaring problems that have infested TR for months still remain in the game, that is the real reason as to why my account was banned
imho the devs simply cannot handle the fact that people are not willing to support their efforts in gilding a turd that really needs a lot more work before it's in any state worthy of the price they are asking for it
however, in this, as in all things, your mileage may vary. You may well think its the best MMO since sliced bread, I don't, I feel it is unfinished, has a very rushed feel to it, and really won't be in any shape worth the asking price for at least 6 months
T.R - sure it is - 300 people running around in the same area. Thats massively multiplayer.
Its online, it has classes and stats which is how most people define RPG. So its a MMORPG.
Guild Wars - all 4 million players are on the same server. Thats more massively multiplayer than any WOW server you can play on. IT has classes and stats so again its a MMORPG.
It seems like people are following a trend rather than giving a point. 'Well he says it sucks, so I will." make your own opinion and post it, not that of others..
In my opinion?
Tabula Rasa has serious promise, it needs to be expanded upon some, and as i spent a large ammount of time tinkering with the game and figuring out the ropes.. I found the game can be quite enjoyable for a community. Not the individual. PvP is coming, but you have to realize.. not EVERY game just as not EVERY player will have MMO at its heart. Not everyone signs up for an MMO just for the pvp. So don't expect every game to.
All in all, TR isn't a bad game so far. Its not the best, but its not the worse. People go into beta expecting it to be the best damned game they've ever tried, they expect it to blow their minds.. When was the last time an MMO blew your mind? Since your very first MMO.. honestly?
People hyped the game up way too much. The game is good for a casual player, but not a Hardcore MMO fan unless they've got spare cash. It deserves a place on the records as a decent MMO.

Tabula Rasa was very much like Auto Assault, it's fresh, it's fun, it looks good on paper. You start playing it, you're enjoying it, for a few days, until you realize that all you're doing is pressing the left mousebutton and W mostly, there's no real need for anything else as the game is 1) A char 2) A gun... And that's it.
Niche game and will probably be heading where AA is.. The old TR (Fantasyish) looked way better and lord British shouldn't have redone that.. While the game HAS improved ALOT since the early days when I started (Remember me, shouting /G IS FOR GLOBAL? Then you're from the early days too..) it's just not living up to what a MMO is about... Again, it IS fun, it's just not That fun.
There's alot to be said about it I suppose but comparing it to Auto Assault is all I can do, it's the same feeling of joy to start playing and the same let down a few days later.
Played so far: 9Dragons, AO, AC, AC2, CoX, DAoC, DF, DnL, DR, DDO, Ent, EvE, EQ, EQ2, FoMK, FFO, Fury, GW, HG:L, HZ, L1, L2, M59, MU, NC1, NC2, PS, PT, R:O, RF:O, RYL, Ryzom, SL, SB, SW:G, TR, TCoS, MX:O, UO, VG, WAR, WoW... It all sucked.
Yeah I am playing under open beta now and I found the game to be very boring although it has an awesome layout and premise it still lacks alot...despite all of the hype. Anyways it may be worth playing after its been out for awhile especially if they make both sides playable and make it more of an FPS than MMO
until you realize that all you're doing is pressing the left mousebutton and W mostly,
there's no real need for anything else as the game is 1) A char 2) A gun...

Now I agree the game is fun. On the TR boards I often push that TR has it's heart in the right place. Moreso for it to be said they have their core mechanics in the right place. That's not to say the system doesn't have problems.
I want to take a moment to look at some other very good MMO's. CoH, for instance started with a wonderful core mechanic. Fighting. PVP did not come standard out of the box. Crafting did not come standard out of the box. They only had a handful of archetypes.
Auto Assault, had another interesting core mechanic. But lets face it, how often can you solo in a game like that? What did that game have? It wasn't much of a racing game, it didn't have a strong following, and people can't associate much with auto assault. That's not to say it was a bad idea, it just wasn't the right time. There was no market for it.
Vanguard. Excellent class choices. Excellent race choices. Immersive in depth crafting system. Mounts out of the box. Incredible "economy" system in place. At launch it wasn't nearly soloable. The world was big and you couldn't find enough players. Suddenly Mr. Big Shot next gen MMO has turned into a flop. And that's looking into strongly and seamingly immersive gameplay.
TR has a strong core mechanic. You build off of your core, and the core to every MMO is combat. Yes balancing needs to be fixed. Yes it's half RPG and half Third Person Shooter. Yes it needs a crafting and PVP revamp, and YES I know we've had some stability issues.
Those issues can be fixed. What cannot be fixed is a core mechanic. Not like this.
SWG decided to change their combat mechanic after gameplay launched because it wasn't "Star Warsy" enough. What a joke. They lost more then half of their fanbase. Changing your core mechanic AFTER launch is a slap in the face to your customers, and a horribly greedy thing to do, because you want to "boost" sales.
I would also like to speak about certain people on these boards talking about a patch that came out in July. If theres anything that I've learned is that when the game is changed, people complain! Nomatter if it's for the better or worse you can't make everyone happy. There will be no roll back. July is over with, this is a new game. New people won't know what July looked like. They can only see what it is now, and they like it. So when you say "I wish it was like it was xx amount of months ago" you aren't convincing anyone the game is going downhill. You're just saying you can't accept the game is changing.
My prediction: it's going to bomb. Just not as messily as Vanguard since the hype hasn't been as big.
The hypes actually been bigger. It's gotten more awards then vanguard did. Also it has a bigger headliner, not that it matters much.
Really? I must be really far out of the loop. I've only seen a couple of minor ads.
Well, that's not going to save it. I couldn't find anything at all interesting about it.
It's tough to say at this point how this game will fare. Personally I like the game. I also know there are a lot of people who don't like the game. Until launch all I can do is play the beta and hope for better days to come. Once it launches, thats a different story. Have fun while it's free. Tough love when it's not. Although I do have faith in NCsoft
Seems to be one common denominator for those that didnt enjoy TR , the truth is they can barely play it on there systems. Jacked up on max it looks and plays fabulously, any old school mmorg gamer will appreciate the content detail and lots of nice features.
ran it at max settings on my pc fine. LOVED Ultima Online by Garriott.
Ive been seeing quite a few posts about how this game will still do good because of "This" and "That"
Simple fact of the matter is, This game under no ones roof will do good, It has nothing good to offer anyone.
FPS: fans wont like it because it doesnt take enough skill, simply aim at different enemies and spam the key away. RPG: Fans wont like it because there is no tactics in fighting, and there is no real Role to play. Racing: fans wont like it because theres no vehicles in a game that almost calls for it.
Most of all MMO: Fans wont like it because its not a freakin MMO. Ithas no community building tools, and no replay value.
Seriously Tabula Rasa is a, One Trick Pony, that cant even execute that one Trick well.
-Jive
I'm going to need specific examples if I'm going to take anything you've said seriously.
First, MMO stands for Massive Multiplayer Online. All you need for the game to be an MMO is a massive amount of people for Multiplayer. If you could get out of the wilderness and move into the Divide you'd see there are a lot of better community features for grouping. Crafting as I've said earlier can be added later. The only thing holding back any further grouping in the lower levels happens to be the chat system.
Second, FPS, it's not an FPS, because there's one problem with that. There's no FP. It's a third person shooter. At this current juncture in the game collision detection is loose but has tightened up a bit since the last patch. This makes it more fun to find cover and easier to stay alive, if you know what you're doing. Which brings me to,
Third, RPG. This means it's a Role Playing Game, all you need for that is to ROLE play. It's a war, people are soldiers. I don't see what's so hard about that to understand. As for no tactics in fighting, that's a joke. Getting a tactical advantage over the enemy means quite a bit. Once you get into the divide things change very quickly. Your weapon jams, you have to worry about overheating, your weapons and armor decrease at a higher rate if you don't take care of them properly. After level 15 you have a much wider range of abilities you can choose to use, not to mention adding grenades/health packs to your abilities tab to further aid in combat. It leaves you open for a wide range of builds that all aid in PVP/PVE strategies. And these can be changed on the fly. For anyone who wants to make a complex tactical build, they can easily do that. The only difference is, instead of running around using the same 5 or 6 skills, standing around and using them, and waiting for them to recharge, you are constantly moving unless attacking at range. Boy, fast paced battles where hiding and weapon choice REALLY DOES make a difference, WHAT A CONCEPT!?
And as for a Racing game, that comment is erroneous. So if this is a "One trick pony" then you aren't playing the game right.
*everything* with regards to gamepley people are saying about TR is what I said about CoH, which is imo it's closest relative in quite a few ways.
The CoX line is considered by most to have been pretty successful.... No reason TR won't do the same, especially if it picks up on the asian market, gets some cash flow, and invests heavily into additional content quickly. Speed is the key here, because, like CoH, the initial product is indeed pretty thin. Handled correctly, I see no reason why TR won't be around in 3-5 years time. It's a long way from flopping.
Me? I am a little dissapointed that this was the best that the imagination and vision behind UO came up with... I just expected something... broader?
Hmm, if you have a fileplanet account you can get into the Beta and go try it out for yourself? I do not wish to put down the game, or taint your opinion of it in any way. If you are truly interested in the game, go to Fileplanet and you should be able to get in and try it out for a couple days.

I've only seen a couple of minor ads.Well, that's not going to save it.

Most of all
MMO: Fans wont like it because its not a freakin MMO. Ithas no community building tools, and no replay value.
Seriously Tabula Rasa is a, One Trick Pony, that cant even execute that one Trick well.

This is COH with guns... 0 appeal for me.
I just expected something... broader?
Personally I would rather play Planetside.
Can anyone who beta tested the game comment on any or all of the following:
(1) How solo-able is this game (including instances, quests, etc.)?
(2) How strong is the mechanism for finding groups?
(3) How good is the story?
I'm really curious about this title and comments like "this game sucks" or "it's boring" aren't all that helpful.
Basically, my MMO experience is pretty limited, but I have enjoyed WoW and Guild Wars very much and CoH. How does TR stack up against those games?
Thanks very much.
(Never could get into TR's beta, though I wanted to.)
Hmm, if you have a fileplanet account you can get into the Beta and go try it out for yourself? I do not wish to put down the game, or taint your opinion of it in any way. If you are truly interested in the game, go to Fileplanet and you should be able to get in and try it out for a couple days.
