Yup, I been keeping a tab on this title for a while now, not likey to become a massive multiplayer title but I'm sure it will support online play like battlefield and half life and those sorts.

The developers have stated the game will be similar to an MMO in its online approach.

The reason it will be a lot like Diablo 2 and battle.net is simple. Awhile back Blizzard crapped on all the guys that helped them make Diablo, Diablo2, WC1, WC2, WC3 and Star Craft. Now all these guys are working for other companies, most of which they made themselves. HGL is being made by some of the guys who made the famous Blizzard titles, just like Guild Wars people.

Be cool to people, and try and stay cool that way you never have to regret making someone feel bad. Don't take what ya got granted because some people never get to feel happy. We get to play these great MMOs and surf a good site. Be thankful for what ya got and next time ya feel down imagine a fat sea otter waddling with a pillow and a night cap. Bam! smiles!

The Guild Wars guys were Blizzard employees.  The Hellgate London guys were Blizzard North and originally Condor Games.  Condor Games was bought by Blizzard before diablo was released  and turned into Blizzard North which operated quite indendently.

From what I have seen the problem was not with the Blizzard people but with Vivendi.   Falgship Studios it self is essentially 80-90% Blizzard North and for all intents and purposes should really be considered the continuation of that outfit considering they were essentially independent in the past.  Diablo itself was wholly dreamed up by the Condor guys before Blizzard ever bought them.

However The Guild Wars guys were the ones who made the original Battle.net (and the original WoW engine as well).  Which is probably why GW is technically superior in the networking aspects.  So neither Flagship nor Blizzard has the real architects of Battle.net available.   Losing access to people like Jeff Strain does have an effect.  So nothing produced by any of these three companies should really be considered exactly the same as old time Blizzard/Blizzard North.

The movie available is certainly attention grabbing - I saw it and some info on the game at the Suprenova convention in Bris (they were sharing a booth with the Weta guys).

My understanding is that the game is playable as a single player and online game, and there's been a suggestion it will be similar in format to the other games that have no monthly scheduled fee - ie. you can pay for access to premium content / items online.

I'll be interested to see more on the acutal game-play mechanics, etc. but it certainly looks interesting.

I agree Hellgate London does look very juicy. It also needs to be put on MMORPG.com's game list. If GW is there, HG should be too. Anyone want to start a petition?

I was so looking forward to this game, as I am a Bill Roper fan, until I saw the how they are funding it.

You pay a MMO monthly fee for a game that is not a MMO.  You can play it without the fee, but you do not get access to any new content, you cannot form a guild, and you can't get the new items they add into the game.

Basically it is like Guildwars with a fee.  I can't imagine playing this game free, far too many restrictions.

I can't believe that Bill Roper and friends can develop such a great game then come up with a brain dead funding mechanism.

While there will initially be suscribers, most will move on in a short time to full MMO's.  Just makes no sense to pay for a diablo style game, when for the same money you can play a full MMO.

I find it hard to believe the utter stupidity of this game.

Even tough i at first thought that this was one of the most stupid things i ever heard i actually came to an other conclusion after sitting down taking a smoke and reflecting over it. As i see it you have 2 real options creating a game like this. Either you make the game whit or whitout any subscriptions. Whitout you really cant expect to have an expanding online world whit new content coming up so lets talk about the fee system. Even tough i´m not for the over/under class system it creates whit it does have some major advantages over your normal mmo fee. I mean it will be nice to play the game    for a couple of months whitout having to think about if the game really is worth the fee. I i after that time still really enjoy the game and want to get the new content and be more serious in my gaming i will pay the fee as i did in L2 and WoW and when the time comes that i don't feel i want to pay anymore i can just stop and still maybe go online from time to time talking whit old friend and do some quests for random fun. I see this as a nice option since i often felt like doing an instance in WoW whit some old guild mates alts just for fun but havent been able to since i dont have a subscription and don't want to pay one months pay just to join an instance or two. Well thats my thoughts on this. Thx -Wendo

I plan to play this game sometime after it releases. I don't like the big restrictions given to people that do not pay. I think it would be a better idea to just package up the content into "expansions" and sell them for $30 or something along those lines.

Personally thought I only hope that Hellgate can hold my attention just long enough for WAR to come out and if that gets delayed AoC.

I plan to subscribe to this game and looking forward to the online experience portion of it. If I had a choice, in which case I do, I rather pay 9.95 a month for quarterly updates rather than pay 15 bucks a month for a wow clone type games. This game will have auction houses, player housing, updates every 3-4 months with new content, 12 character slots, additional storage, pvp areas, level cap increases as more content is released and special transportation to elite areas. This sounds like some of the stuff you get in a mmo but for less money per month. You also get the option to play this game as a fps if you choose to as well which is good for shooter fans. Overall, well worth the measley 9.95 a month compared to the 15 bucks a month. Noone says you have to pay the fee because you can just pay for the box and play for free and enjoy a good game. Hope all who are going to play have a great experience because it is going to be alot of fun.

If you did it online I don't think they give you a key to use to get into the "closed beta", unless they recently fixed that.

Yea they do, the best place if ordering online is www.gogamer.com. They hand out the keys the same or next day of your order.

Eh, I'm one of those people that still thinks D2 is a better online game then any other MMO I've played.  I always said that I'd be happy to pay a monthly fee for D2 just for higher security to get rid of bots and duping, so I'm hoping this is my opportunity to do that.  This game will offer far more replayability then most MMOs, so as far as I'm concerned I'm getting more value then the typical MMO for a cheaper price.

BTW, this game will have a lot more then Diablo did.  Housing, crafting, more content, etc.  As long as they use the same item distribution system (which I understand they are), then all is good.  This no trade, bind on pickup, one raid boss drops item X stuff in MMOs is beyond boring; so I'm very excited to get back to some real gameplay.

In some past Bill Roper interviews he talks about doing exactly as you suggest, which makes good sense.

Watch out though, you may find this game better then any MMO on the market or upcoming.  :P

Nothing too impressive, looks like a solid game. To bad there is monthly fee for updates, WC3 still has strong online community, we get updates, new maps, independently coded games, and great easy access for free.

But hey, i know a place that will charge you 12 bucks for a grilled cheese on a fancy plate, go fig.
