Ok, so what is the point of having a PVP server if the normal servers have faction PVP too? Someone please explain this, and explain what's so special about the PVP server?

Well in PvP there are different zones you can kill people in, and in PvE you can only kill people that are attacking a friendly NPC or Vendor or something like that. So I think that you can only attack people in PvE when they turn off friendly, and then you have to turn off friendly. Then the gloves are off and your ready to duke it out. PvP I think it is all out brawl. Kill anyone you see, take no prisoners.

I may be wrong about something in there, but thats what I have got from the WOW site.

Ok, PvE is all good, PvP is ok. But what avout FvF. Is there any information on this, because. That is what i think sounds the coolest, i saw a raid video and these guys were raiding the horde lands. Then they were intercepted by a horde group and were forced to flee. They hid in a nearby stronghold and fought off the horse, later losing it all in a valant death. But that is almost besides the point, it rocked and im very sure wars will get much mor eintense than that at release, some one tell me if they plan to have it at release.

Faction versus Faction? Yea, that's what the PVP server is for. I mean it might be kinda cool to be on a server where you can attack ANYONE at ANYTIME regardless of even their faction. But I think the PVP server means Faction PVP server. Where it doesn't matter if you don't feel like fighting a passingby Horde group, you're gonna fight or die. I don't think I'll even BE in the normal servers. I love PVP. Plus a Faction PVP server makes you play your character differently. You're no longer playing so you can grind to the next level so you can grind to the next next level. Now you're playing to grind to the next level because some guy just corpse camped you till you wanted to smash you're monitor in. When a game can be about grinding but not ALL about grinding, that's when an MMO succeeds.

P.S. Yea I saw that video too, it was awesome. ::::28::

In regards to Corpse Camping on WoW, if you read the death page, you'll find that it's going to be a bit... interesting. Not impossible, but you definately have to keep your eyes open. you'll probally want to go to http://www.blizzard.com/wow/townhall/death to learn the current ins/outs, or maybe you'd rather check out http://www.worldofwarcraft.com/info/basics/death.shtml for more possibly current information regarding the camping of corpsy goodness.

  • Axel_karefAxel_karef Member Posts: 279

Wow thanks for that link MacKnight. I didn't know you would beable to see MOBs/PCs around ur corpse. Or even revive at a safe location away from them. That's an inventive way to stop corpse campers. Every new thing I read on WoW just makes me want to play it more lol. Even dying sounds fun lol.

Not a problem, I have been keeping a VERY close eye on what Blizard has been doing since Starcrack, err Starcraft. Hell, even had a gaming league up for it for a while such was my addiction. I like Blizzard, and I have been very interested in their World of Warcraft since the very first hints of it YEARS ago. WC3's storyline only made me more interested. and I just can't wait! I would love to be in Beta, but I read enough about it I almost know as much as if I were actually gaming (close, but not quite)

  • Axel_karefAxel_karef Member Posts: 279

Heh, I know what you mean. Blizzard is somewhat new tot he industry and especially this genre, but it has a spotless track record and people still play even their first games. So far it's my favorite gaming company. I'm even interested in pursuing a concept artist as a career choice. Specifically for Blizzard. My dreeeeeeeam job!

Some Useless, yet interesting information regarding Blizzard:

Blizzard Entertainment is owned by Vivendi Universal, whom you may know from Half-life, Crash Bandicoot, and assorted others. They have an interesting track record in the world of gaming

They are never the first in any Genre. Their first games were actually side-scrollers, most successful game was the Lost Vikings (didn't realise it was Blizzard until recently, but I still liked the game even if it is cheezy) But what really garnered them true fame was showing the giants of the industry how it's done.

Many many many years back in the gaming world, there was a little corporation called Westwood (now part of EA games) You would know them for the Command & Conquer series, Which was the game that brought Real-Time Strategy into it's popularity. RTS started taking off back then in 1995. They dropped Dune 2 as well a few years before C&C, really giving one of the first true RTS games out there. Both were Really cool for the time, but then Blizzard decided to break into the PC gaming network

They saw RTS was about to pick up some major steam and came out with Warcraft 1 a year before C&C in 1994 and was hailed as one of the best Strategy games that year. it's controls were simple and graphics weren't anything too over the top, and the story left something to desire. But that is all by today's standards, Just 10 years ago, this was a top notch game. However, they didn't really shine until Warcraft 2

They realised that RTS games were just about to hit their full stride, so they did what any smart-arsed little kid would do, show the big guns how it was done. Westwood had a solid C&C game out with internet capability, However, Battle.net was only just starting in the early days with a Diablo (pushing on Ultima and other RPG titles) and Warcraft 2 was absent from battle.net for quite some time until Starcraft.

Warcraft 2 brought about innovations in the RTS world, the first necromancers and summoning from corpses were found here. The enviroment changed as you played and micromanagement started to take effect. But they decided that wasn't enough.

Then came Starcraft. Gamers expected a lot from Blizzard now. They wanted to know how these newly crowned King of RTS would fare against the upcomming threat of Westwood's C&C: Tiberium Sun and Lucus Art's Force Commander. It turns out VERY well, as neither game surrived as well as Starcraft, Which only suffered slightly in the first few weeks of the new games.

Diablo 2 brought about new standards in RPG games and you can find many of it's displays and controls be imitated. Even though the engine is Blizzard's own, many continue to try to catch that vien that capitivates auidences still.

Now MMORPG's are really starting to hit their prime. Some may even say it's on a downward spiral due to the fact that many seem to be rushing, or just not sending out a completed product (I know patches are good, I mean things like Horizions where the dragons couldn't fly for a few months AFTER release when that was a huge selling point) And All eyes are eagerly watching Blizzard's progress. Instead of buying an engine and trying to emulate another MMORPG, they decided to stick with their usual method and start off at square one and attempt to redefine the genre. Let's hope this turns out to be another one of thier assults on the gaming throne. I know I'm backing their reign.

That's really interesting MacKnight, I never knew alot of that stuff, especially about the lost vikings. And the last paragraph really does explain why they're going through such an extensive beta. I wonder if this is Blizzard's ultimate project? Aside from Starcraft:Ghost and future World of Warcraft expansions...maybe this could be the one game to rule them all. I mean Blizzard conquered RTS with warcraft and starcraft and conquered the the hack and slash RPG genre with Diablo II, and they're working on conquering the 3rd person action genre with ghost and WoW is coming out soon which will probly blow most MMO's out of the water *cough*EQ2*cough*.....what else is left? FPS? LoL.. It'd be interesting to see Blizzard compete with Halo 2, Half-Life 2 and Doom 3.

The PvP model is not complete yet. If I am not mistaken, on the PvE server there will be battle zones kindda like DAoC where that is the place the fighting will be held. On the PvP server you can pretty much fight anyone anywhere. The zone will dictate who can attack whom first tho.

Control types of spells such as Charm, Fear and Stun will now be subject to diminishing returns. This means that if a second spell of the same type is used against the same player within 15 seconds of the first effect wearing off, the second spell's duration will be reduced by 50%, the third's duration will be reduced by 75% and the player will be immune to the fourth casting.

I havn't found a way to search the forums, but what I usually do is set the order of presidence by the "Last Post" so that the most recent posts by the community are on top. Kinda helps to keep from reading old news/gripes and as well stay on top of the new problems that people are starting to complain about.

Nice and informative post there Mac, welcome break from "why u think WoW roxx/suxx" kinda posts image

Although afaik Horizons initially stated on ability of dragon class to fly to arrive at later time, and it's meant to be only for high PC lvl dragons. can't imagine buncha mindless newbie dragons flying around in a swarm image
