This week, Dan Fortier of MMOWTF fame takes the wheel on this just-for-fun column that takes a look at games that we wouldn't normally cover here at MMORPG.com. Dan's topic of choice? Hitman: Blood Money for the PC.
This week I’ve seized the reins of this column from Jon to highlight another game outside of the MMO genre that deserves some love. I tend to be rather closed minded when it comes to my game selection and a game has to be really compelling in some form for me to spend my precious time playing it. With that said, let’s dust off this bad boy and have a look.
This week I chose Hitman: Blood Money developed by IO Interactive and published by Eidos. Eidos has a long history of publishing well designed and intriguing 3rd person franchises with the likes of Tomb Raider, Commandos, Legacy of Kain and Thief under their belt and Hitman is no exception. My pals at Eidos are also sharing publishing duties with Funcom for Age of Conan which bodes well for that game’s future as well. Pedigree perks aside, I have to say that Hitman is a game no serious sadist should be without.

Hitman is a great game, don't get me wrong. But for the love of god, will some freakin' developer please release a decent MMORPG sometime in the next year so we don't have to exist in this stagnant limbo where writers for MMORPG.com are resigned to editorialize about glorified first-person shooters?
I applaud games that try something different. I loved the game Thief, but I found Hitman to be disappointing. It wasn't a bad game, it was just not what I expected. I remember one encounter in Hitman where I was assigned with killing some scumbag in a bar/restaurant. I had to impersonate a waiter well enough not to attract attention, serving drinks and such until the moment was right to strike. I'm sorry, but playing the part of a waiter is certainly not my idea of fun when I'm some uber killer. The game, while it had some cool moments, had far too many missions such as this. I won't buy anymore in that series.
I strongly recommend Thief, in which you get to play a thief, and the game plays exactly like you would expect a thief to act.
For different, I'm eager to try out Assassin's Creed. The clips I saw off youtube look great.
And I agree with the above poster; it'd be nice if some cool, innovative MMOs were coming out so that editorials like this could focus on them.
If you want to be an "uber killer", play God of War. For those of us who want to play as a cool-headed assassin who has to blend into his surroundings in order to further his objective, there's Hitman.
While I agree with your sentiment, I wanted to point out that it isn't for lack of content that we added this column to our site. We do multiple articles about MMORPGs, 260 days of the year. Every now and then, it's fun to think and talk about something else.
I guess that what I'm saying is once a week, it's fun to use an editorial column to discuss other games that we're playing. After all, MMO players can not exist on MMOs alone...

My comment was not intended as a jab at you folks, Jon. And if it was taken as such, I apologize. Though my comment was tongue-in-cheek for the most part, my feeling of ho-hum ambivalence towards the MMORPG industry is all too real at this juncture, unfortunately.
That's fair. I can understand that.

Hitman was an ok game. Had some really fun moments but sometimes setting up for that Fun Moment took dern long. I enjoyed renting them but they were never something that I'd buy on my own.
Now I can understand the writers here wanting to do something a little different but this is MMORPG dot com. If I wanted to read about Hitman games, I'd be over at Gamespy or IGN. Discussing a Hitman MMO well that would of been something different entirely. Course I think The Agency by SOE is going to be filling that niche when it comes out.
Don't think I am being insulting or upset, I enjoyed the read I just felt it was misplaced in this forum.
I would agree that the game does have some really fun moments, and that for the most part it plays smoothly etc. That said I found some aspects of it quite tedious if not outright frustrating. Yes I understand it's all about stealth etc, but that shouldn't mean that if someone sees me checking a locked door I suddenly have 15 police officers shooting to kill. Some missions were better than others in that regard, but for the most part even the most simple mistakes had no minor consequence - it was always an entire map worth of people shooting at or trying to kill you which really ruined my experience each time it would happen. A bit more diversity in response would have made it an otherwise excellent game.
Well, perhaps you should see about getting an option included in the membership settings so that people can opt out of receiving email news alerts for articles that are off topic to MMORPG.com?
I get enough spam as it is, I don't need the sites I actually DO want email from to start sending me junk I don't want. I want to get the news alerts for MMORPG's... that is why I have a membership on MMORPG.com.
Am I being unreasonable?
