Thinking of coming back

Death1942Death1942 Member UncommonPosts: 2,587

i had a brief EQ2 experience in January before the Burning crusade hit and left when BC came out.  i quit WoW in March and have since played LOTRO, City of Hero's and Villains and Guild wars.

i am thinking of coming back because i am so bored, i need an MMO with Assasins and Wizards (that i havent already played) and EQ2 is one of the Big MMO's so it must be good.

a few questions i have

1. when i first started out was lvl 10-19 (19 was as far as i got as a SK) was so dull and boring,  does the game get better after 20?

2. the amount of stuff to do was huge and i could never work out what i should do,  is this normal?

3. grouping was sweet and so were the dungeons but getting a group was so damn hard,  has it gotten any better?

4. If (for some reason) i felt like playing an assassin/wizard would this work?

6. what is a good support class for the assassin?

5.do i need to  betray to get either of those classes?

any other things i should look forward to?  (like i said i never made it over level 20)

MMO wish list:

-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads

    1. The game does get better past lvl 20.  I too found the first 20 levels pretty boring but now there are two new starting areas to help alieve this.  Theres so much content and zones you wont get bored for places to go and things to do.

    2. Yes it is normal, there are plenty of quests to do.  Sometimes it pays to concentrate on certain quests from a certain zone instead of spreading yourself thin with a mass of quests from a lot of zones.

    3. Hit and miss, most people will tell you that its no problem getting groups at peak play times.

    4. Im not sure what you mean here.  If your talking about two boxing these two classes then it could work but a better option would be to have a healer as one of the classes.

    5. A class to complement an Assassin would be a healer, preferably a Warden or a Fury.

    6. You dont have to betray to be either a Wizard or an Assassin just start in the right city.  The Wizard can start in either Freeport or Qeynos and the Assassin can only start in Freeport (or Neriak for both)

    1. when i first started out was lvl 10-19 (19 was as far as i got as a SK) was so dull and boring,  does the game get better after 20?
The game really begins fully after 20.  Previous to level 20 the developers figured that players would just be learning their class.  In the old system you didn't pick your final class until level 20.  So 1-20 is sort of the learning curve levels.
After 20 several main dungeons open up.  There is Stormhold off of Antonica (good).  There is Fallen Gate off Commonlands (evil). And Crushbone off of Greater Faydark (Fae expansion).
If your into soloing, you can go to Thundering Steps or Netkulos Forest or Butcherblock Mountains.

Half the fun is exploration and adventure.  That is why the game doesn't have big neon signs saying...GO HERE.  Most people don't like that.  However as for the old world, there are Prima Guides to buy that can guide you.  If you were to start off at level 1 and do the main quest lines, continue those quests lines through the 20's, you will be directly through those to the next area for your level.  But the game does it within the lore and fantasy instead of outright telling you where to go.
The way it's designed is so that there is structure for those who want it, through the quest lines.  And there is total freedom for those who want it.  For example a buddy and I made a templar/pally combo.  We left the island at level 1, killed rats and fish at the docks to level up, took longer, but was totally without quests.  We are going to level to about seven, then move into the Down Below under Qeynos.  From there we can stay within the catacombs until mid-30's.  In fact we can break from that dungeon and move on to Stormhold at 20, complete Stormhold, then move back to finish the catacombs.  After 30 we can go to Tomb of Varsoon and crawl that until 40's.  Then from there move to Runneye or the Orc Citadel.  In late 40's it's on to Everfrost and then at 50's to Permafrost, or to Lavastorm and Temple of Solusk Ro.
From 50's onward it's the Desert of Flames.  We can finish Desert of Flames around 65 and finish the last five level's in Kingdom of Sky content.
So we did 1-70 using only the original game + a little bit of the first two expansions.  But mostly there is loads of fun stuff between 1-50 in JUST the old world.  This is not even touching Echoes of Faydwer yet.
We can literally dungeon crawl from level 7 through 70.

    3. grouping was sweet and so were the dungeons but getting a group was so damn hard,  has it gotten any better?
If you build it they will come.  Unless you play at an odd hour on a dead server, you're chances of making a solid group are good.  Being a guild where everyone is similar level's helps as well.
    4. If (for some reason) i felt like playing an assassin/wizard would this work?
You can please either an assassin or a wizard.  Currently if you combined the two it would be too overpowered.
    6. what is a good support class for the assassin?
    Any healer, probably a warden.
5.do i need to  betray to get either of those classes?
If you make a high elf and want to be an assassin you would need to betray.  But if you want to make a ranger (which is basically the good version of an assassin) you wouldn't.  Same with dark elf would need to pick evil version of the class or else betray for good version with dark elf..
any other things i should look forward to?  (like i said i never made it over level 20)
The game takes off at level 20.  I recommend get in a guild of your similar level.  Go to Stormhold or Fallen Gate and stay in there until you are late 20's.

If your worried about groups and population join either

    Antonia Bayle (RP)

    or

    Nagafen (PVP)

They are the 2 highest pop servers.
