I see flying mounts!

Ive seen a number of gryphons in some of the WoW videos, especially some of the raid ones. Are there going to be flying mounts? Are those gryphons just "hovering" a few feet off the ground? Or was it a GM or somesuch?

There not mounts, its kind of like a taxi which can fly you from point A to B for a small fee. There are different ones for each race.

Human/gnomes/dwarfs have gryphons

Night Elf have hippogryphs

Orc/troll have wyverns

undead have vampire bats

The 'mounts' that are flying really high off the ground are a taxi service.

The mounts that are hovering a foot off of the ground are real mounts that you can buy.

You can not buy flying mounts. You can ride flying mounts from place to place with a fee attached to it. Like said prior, it is a taxi service.

The gryphon riders you saw are just air transportation for getting you from place to place and they have fixed paths. Sorry to burst your bubble, but there are no flying mounts.

Bliz won't confirm or deny you can use flying mounts for combat. but I saw it too. A gryphon rider flying around. it may have been an NPC. NPC's help you out everyonce in awhile if you are close enough.

Yea, it wasnt 50 feet in the air, it was 5 feet off the ground hovering(and i think the gnome rider was casting) next to a battle. So it wasnt the taxi unless it made a detour for a raid

Alright, as yall have said, there are probably not going to be any controlled flying mounts.... and every race in a faction can use one of that faction's two existing air mounts. Yeah, any member of the Alliance can use a Hippogryph or a Griffon. Anyone in the Horde can use Wyverns and Bats (yeah even Tauren).

Maybe I'm missing the point... where did yall see that hovering mount with the casting gnome? That's really weird.

I found it A Bald gnome on a griffon casting a blue spell. Its in the last 20 seconds of the video when they are chasing the horde around on Sentinel Hill. Heres a link to the vid:

I downloaded a Raid video and a night elf landed a mount and got off to aid her allies. I think there are mounts you can personally own.Granted you are higher levels.

Trust me... There are no air mounts, just the taxi's.

I know people in the beta, they laughed at me when I asked this to them to make sure. They're just taxis, Blizzard HAS confirmed this, read the FAQ's page.

Just taxi's people. You get ground mounts, that's it. Any time you see someone on an air mount, it's just a taxi taking them from point A to point B. You also can't do combat while mounted on any of the ground mounts. So even if there WERE air mounts, you wouldn't be able to attack from them.

I watched that video and I saw what you mentioned, spent a good deal of time scouring the net trying to find something to see if they did exist, got zilch, nada, nothing. Just things to support their lack of existance(as far as being player controled mounts and not taxies anyways). All I cank think to figure that's in that video, is that's an NPC. Wish I could offer you more of an explanation than that atm. Waiting on a response from someone then I'll know for sure.
