Where is the best scenery in WoW?

CzzarreCzzarre Member, Newbie CommonPosts: 3,742

Hey all,

As many know, WoW has likely peaked and many new players are moving on. Anticipating this, I made a website for players to list what characters they played and what games they are now going to. On WWW.TheBurialGrounds.Com, I made one section specifically for World of Warcraft and I would like to hear your ideas as to where you think the coolest scenery in WoW is. With that I can take screenshots of those areas that visitors can use  on the website.

So, list what zones you found  the most appealing...which ones made you say 'WOW" for the first time.  If its a certain part of a zone, which part. Lets keep this to the standard zones first...I'll be adding TBC expansion zones later.

Thanks for all your help

Peaked?  Not yet, probably after WOTLK though, then something has to give.  They recently announced 9 million subs, they're rumoured to be expanding localization in Europe, to places like Russia, and the like,  and Northrend is a continent that players have wanted to see from the beginning.

Blizzard recently said they were hoping for 10 million subs, and with Wrath, I think they may peak at this figure.

Plus the game is STILL in the sales charts for the PC - which simply doesn't happen with MMOs after this amount of time.  That's a lot of new players who have a long time to go, and a lot of content to see before they burn out.

Newer players, with TBC have even more content to consume before hitting the heavy grinds, than players who have been around since beta, that'll delay the fallout further.

I think saying that WoW has peaked is more than a little premature and a bit like doing an autopsy on a patient who checked in with a sore throat :p

Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...

Well, I wont deny the numbers. However, I think every game has the 'jump the shark' moment. Even if I believe that this game hit its peak , it doesnt mean that this peak isnt so high that it wont be a very long (and perhaps gradual) decline.

Dont get me wrong, I am not a "XXX game will kill WoW" or even a WoW basher. These are just my observations. And as such, are confined to N=1.

Back to the topic however, Where are the most scenic areas of WoW. Im looking for locations that are picturesque, striking, dark and sinister.

    Thanks

I play WOW and on my server it peaked along time ago (about a year ago). Most players are jaded. You can bark about the number of subs and sales all day but in-game its a diffrent story. There are places in WOW that used to be constantly populated now at times are completely empty. Also there are tons of servers with the pop of LOW. Thankfully they stopped making new servers because the players are so thinned out now the game is nowhere near as massively multiplayer as it once was.

As far a scenery in WOW I might can help out with this.

I'm looking at your website right now and it's great idea you have there and well done.

My question is what are you going to use the scenery for ? There are so many beautifull locations in WOW that getting specific would probably be a good idea.

For example you could use screenshots of certain graveyards or monuments in order to honor characters in that emotional way. As example on the alliance side in fact there is a place within the starter area of elwynn forest on the east side called the Stones of Remembrance and it is a place that was set up to honor the fallen warriors and all who have struggled with the alliance to make stormwind what it is.

Or using screenshots of the main cities would probably be striking however not very rare as usually everyone has seen them.

There is countless places that have a great scene.

I have found that if you take long gryphon flights over the whole land you can take shots from the air that are amazing and in some cases thats the only way to see certain areas that are either hard to find or impossible to get to.

    Hey Zack,

Thanks for the kind words about the site. Its still in its infancy.

To answer your question, I'm looking for great places to take screenshots to use as a background for the player monuments. I used 4 already just to get a feel for how well it would work and I was very happy with the results. I want to find places that really stand out and players would think it would be a cool place to put a longlasting monument to thier char. If you take www.theburialgrounds.com/cgi-bin/Chardisplay.pl?66 as an example. Here he used a basic Mulgore background. Its a nice background, but now I want to place in options that have really scenic areas.

Ive played WoW for 2 years, I have some ideas now as to where to grab some, but sometimes I think I spent 12 months of those 2 years raiding Molten Core. I do not only want to use areas that I think are cool. Many players have had a lot more time in game than I and explored a lot of areas. I want to get suggestions from a large group so that I can make this area of the website more appealing to a variety of players.

Thanks for suggesting the stones of rememberence. I will take a look and see if I can get a good shot.

Keep them coming and thanks again all

    Aye I noticed the

Here are a few more I can remember...

Shrine of Aessina in ashenvale western side south off the road.

Shrine of the Fallen Warrior in barrens on a hill (up a hill) west of xroads.

Monument to Grom in south east ashenvale. http://wow.warcry.com/images/view/4077

Also the most dramatic scenes can be taken at dawn and dusk ingame which produce great sunsets and rises.
