Thinking about coming back to CoH

TortimerTortimer Member UncommonPosts: 113

I haven't played CoH since the first year.  I have been playing WoW for a couple years and EQ2 for about 1 year.  I'm really bored with both games and looking for something different (non fantasy). I started playing CoH for 5 or 6 months when CoH first came out.  I think I had a lvl 40 Blaster and couple lvl 20+ Defender and Scrapper.  I have a few questions:

1.  Should I buy the Good vs Evil CoH/CoV package?  I never played CoV and it looks interesting.

2.  If I add the CoV key from the Good vs Evil would I get 30 days free and be able to keep my CoH characters?

3.  How is CoV compared to CoH?  CoH was always one of my favorite MMO's it just got boring after 5 or 6 months.

Thanks for any response in advance.

    1. if you still have your login/pw, just log onto your ncsoft account and pay $10 to upgrade to good v evil.  you get the justice and sinister costumes, a jump pack for all your toons (past, present and future), and um, like a badge or something, plus all of COV.

    2. unsure

    3. picture coh, if it had two new issues in the whole time it was out (which is about how long you played).  not a hell of a lot to see in cov, if you're looking at zones, strike forces, GMs, etc.  BUT, you've never seen any of it; so yeah, lots of new stuff.

coming from YOUR perspective, it's a totally different (and way better) game now.

if you want to get back into it in a fun way --- check out the player events forum and look for "super teams".  not super/villain group; but super team.  it's a large group of people mostly taking same primary/secondary of an AT, and combining strengths and hitting lvl 50 in a month or so.

could we please get correspondent writers and moderators, on the eve forum at mmorpg.com, who are well-versed on eve-online and aren't just passersby pushing buttons? pretty please?

Thanks for the response.  I do know my login/pw for CoH but I deleted the CoH client and don't know where my CoH disks are anymore.  Maybe I can download the CoH when I download the CoV client when I upgrade for $10.  So, instead of buying the Good vs Evil game for $29.99 I can buy a good vs evil upgrade for $10?

City o heroes is awesome game, my 2nd favorite compared to EQ1. If you like Pve try EQ1. Or if your bored of CoH :). Wow gets boring real quick at end game. Pretty game , but not enough to do or ways to be unique on your character. So Coh or EQ1 not eq2 that game isn't much fun.

The answer your second question would be yes.

Also you only have to pay 15 dollars a month to play both games if you upgrade the account .

Issue 11 is due to come out soon as well.

I did start my account back up late last night.  I forgot and my Blaster is only lvl 39 hafl way to 40.  I played for a couple hours last night.  It takes a while to get use to the controls again.  I did one mission solo and died a couple times.  It seems like my Blaster has been nerfed or maybe I just need to get use to playing him again.  I know I probably have a free respect but want to play and read the boards for a little while before respecing.  I might start a new character on both sides(CoV and CoH).  That might be the best way to get back to playing.

I see there is crafting now and a AH.  I did go to the AH just to look what is available but not sure what I was looking at.  I will have to read up on how to craft and what to do with some of the salvage I got.  Have they added a bank now?

My characters are on Triumph.  I also see you can move to another server.   Last night there wasn't many people on Triumph.  I will wait a week and see how the population is on the weekend.  Does anybody know what server has the biggest population?

Server Freedom is the most populated.

Get a life you freaking Gamer.....no no, you don't understand, I'm a Gamer, I have many lives!!

When You come get to the server selection page the highest populated server is the bottom one listed. It used to be the other way around till they changed it. Freedom is the most populated.

    1) CoV is an interesting on it's own. I've played it a little, but mainly purchased the game for the base content on the heroes side. Super Group Bases provide a lot of diversity in the game and help aid you in travel location, storage, and a secure PvP envirment outside Arena.

    2) This is going to be a two part answer. Yes, you can add the Key and get 30 days free, but save the money and just upgrade the existing account. You can purchase it on the NCSoft website. As far as your charaters go, there was a large sweap of old hero names on accounts that had no activity and were not being paid for over a 90 day period. I was able to obtain 4 out of 12 names that I tried for concept charaters I have laying in wait, that I was not able to obtain just a couple of weeks earlier. So although you may still have them in your account, you may have to rename them if the names have been reused.

    3) CoV has a few variations on the heroes and some new villain make up types. You'll find that most of the villain builds can work well solo and can even over power some heroes in a pvp format. You start out the game either working for Lord Recluse and his minions or as a rogue out for your own glory. You still find yourself battling many of the villain sets that are on the hero's side, but you do get to fight heroes on certain Meyham missions available to you as you go on your career of evil.

Over all, the content has matured over the last couple of years. They have added PvP zones, Player events and even the invention options now available. Issue 11 is going to introduce more missions, more content, more inventions, and new power sets. Customization is going to be a big feature when it comes to weapons, although I did miss the beta test sessions so I can't tell you exactly how it is going to work, but from what I read, it is going to be real cool! I would say, that if your interested, go for it. Spend some money on the upgrading of your account and pay for the first month. It will give you a chance to experience the game without making a large investment in the game. If you like it, you just keep rolling with the payment plan. If not, close the account and you only spent $24.95 for the 30 days. Give or take a dollar or two.

    1. I would, both CoH and CoV are great, I have a 50 Blaster and working on a Villain at the moment. Both are very enjoyable, however, completely different then either WoW or EQ2.

    2. Not sure, sorry.

    3. CoV is very similar to CoH, it's basically CoH but with a darker setting to the game and your called a villain, but it's fun at times with the kidnapping and bank robbing missions. Also, the different powers are cool such as Electric/Electric Brute or Ninja Blade/Ninjitsu for Stalkers, which I find both to be very fun.
