Hey guys just wondering what were the general thoughts on whos got the best crafting in -game. I like micro-managment and being able to submerse into a total crafter no combat scene play style. As of now SWG is the only one that can quench my thirst was wondering your thoughts. Possibly find another mmo to play out of this. Thanx in advance

I hate crafting, and think all crafting should be removed from games.
So while I have no experience in good crafting, (no such thing IMO), I've read that Horizons, Tale from the Desert and even Final Fantasy XI all offer good crafting experiences. EQ 2 might not be too bad and some folks even like the crafting in Vanguard.
EVE has good crafting as well, at least in terms of creating relevant items but you don't really get to assemble the pieces yourself (a factory does it) so it might not qualify.

id have to say the best crafting system in any MMO i ha ve played has been SWG. would love to see more MMOs out there implement better crafting systems such as SWG has if not better , if possible. I dont believe in ppl being able to GM a crafting prof AND a weapons. Think there should be some sort of distingtion personall
If you liked swg so far eve might be the one for you.
But: Eve is a PvP-Game in all aspects, crafting included. You can make a living of it, but you will have to compete with other crafters or people who are just trying to make profit of buying and selling what others make. Its a "bit" more abstract and a lot deeper than most mmogs imo.
The downside is, that you have to make your money somehow, and its an unregulated market. Marketscams happen, people manipulate the market, huge price-bubbles appear..everything you can see in a real life market. Its very harsh and not too easy to make a living of it.
Chalk another up for SWG.
Some of the most fun I had in an MMO was with my Weaponsmith. I had a nice shop, vendors, and many happy customers.
The resource gathering system was awesome as well. Surveying and dropping harvestors was a lot of fun.
Hacking at a mine or picking a plant that despawns right after is not fun to me. Sadly most other MMOs use this system.
Ryzom is a good one

sorry guys forgot one catch to this. I need to have full control of my charctor thru my mouse. And not too fond of point and click movement. /Praise
mh..Ultima Online?
thanx for all your advice guys. Got a 500gb HD sitting empty and a 16 down 2 up connection so I'm downloading them all one by one lol.
Another one that might be: Entropia.
FFXI, NeoCron ..both pay2play games but very detailed crafting systems...
In NeoCron you kan make anything from ships to tanks.. hover crafts, guns, weapons and ammo... you had a job that kould make blueprints, a job that kould ID items for crafting.. and a device to turn raw matrial into useable goods.
There wasnt really an Auction House, mostly real people you would take your supplies to. blue prints + parts to make the item. he or she would make the item, you'd tip them and move on your way. items from the shops sucked anyway but you kould still buy one if you had to and have it blueprinted then remake it better using someone in town.
hands down, the best system i've seen yet
FFXI was nice too but you had to level your crafting skill really, to make any money off of it and learn more then one and they took alot time and money to level. profit was minimum on most items. Unless you invested enuff income in it to level it to the point were ever item you made sold for a larg profit of money I.E. "the pay off"
as for FREE... ArchLord.. havent seen any free mmo to match it yet. but thats probably b/c it was p2p for awhile.
I dont know about the others listed but i'd be interesting in finding out.
Games I've Played: SilkRoad, Flyff, NeoCron, PlanetSide, Rapplez, UpshiftRacer, Drift City, TB, Kwonho, ArchLord, AoA, Exteel, WolfTeam, Shaiyan, WoKF, FFXIV, STO, KoTR, ESO, Defiance, Mabinogi
Games I'm Playing: Warframe/STO
Games I'm Pondering: The Secret World
Ultima Online for the win!
EVE is not about crafting at all--it's about production, where every item of a given type is the same. Very different from old SWG, where every item of a given type was unique.
Apply lemon juice and candle flame here to reveal secret message.
You will have to explain the difference between "crafting" and producing (crafting?!) things to a non-native english speaker then, as for me the two words mean nearly the same, with production just being crafting in higher numbers
Have an inactive EVE account. Liked the game but could never get into a corp that helped out new players. Would try and go mine and half to jump out when reds came. Would be cool tho with people im sure.
POTBS will be production based in which you will invest in equipment and NPC labor to harvest and produce items from bandages, ships and ship parts, weapons, ammo, and basically anything you use will be player created. it's completely player driven and if you are looking for more of an investor/manager type economic gameplay then try out POTBS but it will not be released until January 22, 2008...I hope.
I'm looking forward to this type of economy as I am really tired of stone age type of foraging, grinding gameplay in majority of MMO economies.
I just got the stress test for POTBS. tryed logging in all night would get on for 5 mins then the server would crash lol. But that does sound like an awesome feature. As a crafter i always disliked the fact that I cannot make things that rly matter. Too often the almighty quest loot takes over. I think its cool to have that loot (in moderation)but i think anything quest driven should be untradeable and very difficult to get. Right now SWG is making the crafters work together to make the newer content things. i like and dont like that lol
Yep, such is the way of a stress test. Yesterday I got a lot of game time in. Had lots of fun between server overloads and restarts. But right now it looks like they got it down for a while
My vote would go for SWG
Wow A tale in the Desert is pure crafting. Thanx for this one Kyleran..its point and click movement but very God Game like.I like it a lot except the 13.95 a month charge but otherwise this is the winner atm.
I can only talk about the MMO i tried, but EQ2 as the best crafting in my book.
But in this case I would agree with you. It is, in my opinion, the very last redeeming quality SWG has to offer.
give it a look.
I normally move ingame by holding both mouse buttons down to run. Everything can be done by mouse.
you can even setup macros ingame and put them on your action bar, so you can mouse activate them. although its more convenient for me to use their hotkey.
great game killed by bad management.

Only if it sounds like something the OP is looking for. I look at alot of those "which MMO should I play threads" that crop up on a daily basis but I don't recommend SWG for many of them I don't play other MMO's so I can't reccommend stuff I don't know.
The only game i have ever played that had good crafting is the elder scrolls games, i wish they would make a system like that in a mmo it would make the game much more interesting.
Of course it would be very hard to balance which im sure is the only reason it hasn't been done yet. Like custom spells, custom armour, etc If they went one step further and allowed you to design and implent your own, maybe through a system like pirates of the burning sea has then it would be a great.
At the moment crafting system are just make useless crap, make more useless crap, make one good item, find better item on first mob killed/quest done etc, continue process untill fully skilled out, then pick new crafting professtion.
I like what pirates of the burning sea is aimed at as well where there is no real crafting it is all production and everything is useful, that could be good to.
