The notion that graphics, or anything else for that matter, are anywhere near as important as gameplay/fun is so utterly ridiculous that anyone who shares such a view should be placed in an asylum.

What is the logic behind recommending a dieing game? Anyways my recommendation is Perfect World as it is quite enjoyable to play and is not a boring grindfest like the other two(not dieing) games that have been mentioned in this thread. Give it a shot you wont be disappointed.

Hahahaha! and Ryzom is'nt dying! *Sarcasm*
If your into good gameplay and dated graphics try Tibia. www.tibia.com
If your into good graphics bad gameplay try Rappelz.
Rappelz, is the best F2P game on the net IMO! It has a very fun pet system. Alright "PK" PVP on Pantera. Good Graphics. Good animations. Good character design. Good world design. Fun Dungeon system. Alliance guild system where guilds can form allies with other guilds and create alliance. Many classes to choose from and they are very fun to play.
If you played SWG and you like the creature handler profession then your going to like Rappelz.
If you liked grinding bols in SWG in pre cu to gain levels then your gonna like Rappelz.
If you liked playing or play the hunter class is WoW then your going to like Rappelz.
IMHO Sword of The New World. Despite what people said.. I tried it.. IMHO it's an absolute blast. Granted the AFK leveling is good for someone like me that has to work. I find AFK leveling to be an AWESOME feature. Plus the shout channel you have to buy an item for.. i've NEVER seen gold farmer spam. You can also buy the box copy of the game for 10bucks and get some item shop coins plus you don't have to download 3.9gbs. The 3 character system is very cool. Makes battles interesting doing different combos.. i've remade like 10 times because of it. Also.. FK RAPPELZ! Game blows!

Ok, your opinion of your favorite F2P game is granted just as well as someone elses. But to say "FK RAPPELZ! Game blows" right after I posted my opinion...please lets not turn this thread into a my game is better than your game bashing fest. I could speak my mind on many things I don't like about SoTNW but I won't. Please don't bash. I mean we are all here to post for the OP's question right? Shouldn't we let the OP decide which game he thinks blows? Everybody has there different opinions on what they like. It could be art style, gameplay or heck the community. So lets help the OP out not bash each others favorite F2P game.
They all Blow!!! Haha, J/K But to be serious, all games have their good points and bad. What might be the greatest game ever to some is gonna be the biggest suck fest on the planet to just as many other people. the only way your gonna know if any game is right for you is to try a few of them and judge for yourself. Only you can pick the game that is right for you so even though you should listen to all the suggestions here your only gonna know for sure after trying a few of them. So when someone says your favorite game sucks don't get all bent out of shape as to them it does but that doesn't mean it's any less enjoyable to you. The OP will eventually have to decide for themselves what to play as none of us are qualified to make that decision for them.
Rappelz: Even though the new Epic 4 update killed the game for me. It is probably still good for others to have a go at it.
Lunia: This is a pretty good action RPGame. The only down side is the limited chat bar. x.x
As for Tibia. Don't play unless you feel like playing bitch to higher levels or playing NoN-PvP where every one shows disrespect to you. In Norm servers: If some one is higher level, doesn't like you. They can basically hunt you off a server or two with little to no consequences. With the death rate so high in this game: Making it very unenjoyable and unplayable. In NoN-PvP: It's a kiddy trash talking fest where they attempt to make your game play as unpleasant as possible and you cannot do any thing in return.
In short: Tibia if full of grievers and will only bring you grief if you play.
I enjoyed Tibia for a bit, though I completely agree with the amount of griefers in the game. Not to mention the pretty harsh death penalty, but I still rank Tibia as one of the better free to play MMOs out there, and it has been around for a LONG time.
A lot of people are talking about this Perfect World game, I might give it a try, nothing better to do until WAR.

The OP asked for the best, no other stipulation. Ryzom is the best.
What logic is there in recommending item shop games that really are not free, but only thought to be free by gullible people who can't make the logical connection between buying items and paying to play, even more than a standard subscription game charges.
Check out this nifty feature of Perfect World:
Double Experience Option NPC
Leveling is easy with the Double Experience Option. A non-playing character (NPC) can provide 12-14 hours of 2x EXP per week (non-stackable) at the discretion of the player.
I love how they call the ability to cheat by paying to be powerleveled a "discretion of the player" option.

Why yes I do...
That option (provided by the game's owner) has little to no effect on my gameplay experience. Some duffus choosing to pay for an advance in levels doesn't cause me to have less fun in Perfect World.
Nonetheless...I agree dying or not Ryzom is an excellent title.

First off I never said Ryzom wasn't an excellent game as I do believe it to be one. I just don't see the point in recommending to someone a game that is gasping for air right now before it goes down for a third and quite possibly last time.
Secondly how is the 2x experience any different than WoW's off-line experience? I've played plenty of P2P games that offer double experience events and I view this as no different. Also as others have said this doesn't deter at all from my enjoyment of the game and if I had to choose between some gold farming sweat shop getting the money or the developers.......the developers win hands down!
Well i definitely dont think its perfect world. Having tried them all its a tough call right now but ive always favoured silkroad in the past but its getting pretty old and tired these days. Archlord is pretty bad imo and RF and Rappelz arent noteworthy either.
Choosing the least bad of all the f2p games is a difficult choice but if i had to id choose one of the newer action oriented cross over games like lunia or something. Sure the game might not be that long but at least there is some fun gameplay in there compared to the grindyness of all the other titles.

You don't understand the difference between a feature being available to all players equally vs someone paying for an advantage?
When a developer becomes the gold farming/powerleveling sweat shop, what's the difference? Why would you reward a developer who caters to that corruption of gaming?

I'm a huge Perfect world fan. I wasn't but I am now.
I have play more hours of this game recently than I really should. At first it was a shallow experience past the great character generation system. As time wore on I got used to it's pace and now I'm loving this game alot. I play em all folks bad or good atleast once. I played this once wrote it off as crap past the great char building system and left it at that. Came back to check in on it (As I do) and found the game more fun than prior. The community is pretty damn nice too. The stigma of Chinese players being bastards is such crap. I have many chinese pals who speak great english (and are speaking it for the sake of me) and they are good folks all around. PW English MY version is a melting pot of cultures from Russians to Africans. I enjoy it alot.
Rappelz is okay too, but to be honest if feels like a weak version of L2 and it makes my system lag (I have a great computer) the world and graphics were build oddly and take up alot of resources they shouldn't for such a low poly count. Game play gets icky around 29 or so as things slow down ALOT.
Sword of the new world- Didn't care for this game too much, it felt like each of my characters were just a part of a single character except he/she had been cut into three facets. Never did feel like the classes worked outside of synergy. While a great novelty after 2 months of play I got bored of it.
Get off your high horse.. I wasn't targeting you in anyway. I made a statement about that crappy game. Not you. To assume it was about you thinking you posted about Rappelz first (which you didn't) is just dumb.
Anyway, back on topic. 2Moons, Sword of The New World are good because they don't move at a crawling pace. Rappelz was the same, but that game just sucks with its god awful customer support and overall boring game play. Graphics are kind of dated too.
As far as people suggesting Anarchy Online. Please stop already. That game is AWFUL. I don't care how good a game play it MAY have. If you do not have the ability to look past its HORRID graphics you won't be able to play it. Not to mention it's pretty confusing at first. They throw you in the game with no real direction. Just surrounded by some mobs and an NPC. WTF?
Not to mention SOTNW is the only F2P i've played with zero gold spam. It's great. Now the game is mostly solo played, but you can get groups if you want to or get in a clan and have groups 24/7. Really up to you.
Perfect World looked good, but after wasting 3 hrs trying to get a working download of the damn thing I gave up and put it on my POS game list. Yes I know they have blocked IPs (dumb as hell) on a few of their links. I was trying the unlocked beta. Tried nearly every link. (don't bother linking either.. I don't give a crap at this point)

And you said he's on the high horse? You're condemning a very old game for it's graphics, heck, you're condeming /any/ game for it's graphics alone. One of the best free MMOs I've ever played in my life had graphics that could have been made in MS Paint.
Also, your problem with perfect world shows just how oblivious you are. Perfect World Phillipenes /only/ allows downloads and players from the phillipenes. You are not from the phillipenes. Therefore, game = POS. Awesome logic, there. Shoulda paid attention and gone to the malaysian-english site.

And you recommend this game!?

These are of course my problem.
