this mostly applies to guys playing as girls. why do you do it? do you get excited from looking at a girl character? does it make you happy inside? are you that pathetic in real life that you have to amount to this? i dont know about you guys but i like the gender i am and i like to potray that when i am online. some would say looking at a guys butt is gay. i dont know what your doing but i actually "play" the game, i dont generally focus on the guys butt while im playin. i was just wondering why you all do this.
To the OP,
Ty for an ammusing thread to read through, but I would advise you to chill. Making any inferences concerning a persons sexuality or how comfortable they are in their gender role based on a MMO, means you take these games a bit to seriously. I have toons in a plethora of games of both genders and it has NOTHING to do with anything except the name I decided I wanted or how cool they will look in their gear. Maybe if you cut back on pming girl characters assuming they were girls it would not bother you so much. In other words its a game and a persons decision to play a male or female toon for the most part has no bearing on game play, and really tells you nothign about the person in RL.
Gues what....these are roleplaying games....and thats exactly what i do when i play a female character, roleplay it.
In the D&D campaigns that i DM, there where allways one or two guys playing female characters, to give the roleplaying a twist. Nowedays our female members take that up their shoulders.
Sometimes i wonder how people can be so narrowminded in even asking this question.

These dudes who are playing female chars are just playing a game.
See you defended your actions of choosing a male avatar over a females the same EXACT way it would be visa versa.
I play any sex as long as my character looks good. I don't give a damn because technically they are all a-sexual except for boobies, in not one mmo have I seen a upkilt/skirt and seen peoples genitals. Not one.
I'm not looking to have hawt cyber or looking to have a relationship on the interweb in a video game where I kill dragons/ghouls/whatever.
It seems to me you want people to play the sex they are simply because it makes it easier to flirt with said avatar with paranoia. Just stop hitting on polygons/pixels and you will be okay kiddo'
my friend stated exactly this when i asked him years ago... "because i'd much rather look at a girl's ass running around than a guy's ass".. makes sense but i never wanted to play a female char cuz of friggin perverts like him and every other guy on the net trying to hit on me.. so i usually play bishie-looking chars instead hahahah.. so instead of being a girl.. i end up looking gay.. great.. might as well play a girl at this point..
And this thread needed to be Necro'd from a month ago for what reason???
Because it can be?
And your comment was for what reason (???)
Because these same threads pop-up on these boards, as well as other MMO boards, all the time without fail, and the topic is old hat already. The reasons why people play characters of the opposite sex have been stated time and time again. And the fact that the OP was originally banned for making this very thread, and then decided to Necro it a month later, makes it all the more ridiculous.
Dude I'm the same way, I go with the archtype look of the male that suits myself personally and as in real life...Goddamnit I always make pretty "Even the most hetro guy would bone" guys.
Except in real life I just get hit on by guys with lisps ....That'll learn me to go into seattle though.
It seems like if "They" offered more male choices in look I'd be more inclined to play a male character.
But to be honest I really enjoy my females, and I really enjoy my males. I always ALWAYS state "I'm a guy" when I start getting ickied at.
Bottom line is, I don't care if you come online in a mmorpg to meet hot chicks, I don't.
I wonder if the original poster doesn't play ANY females in ANY game.
"I aint being chun-li it's a GURL!!!11"
"I never played Rebecca's story in resident evil, you because I don't want to look like a gaymo"
"I broke disc 2 in resident evil 2 because I didn't want to be a gaymo and play a girl"
Wow, this stupid topic rear's its ugly head again?
Why? because the OP (most likely) tried to cyber with a female avatar but got the reply "Leave me alone you freak" and now he feels bitter about it so is posting, basicly saying that everyone who doesn't play their real gender is gay.
Its people who make these posts who have the issues. Why don't you go play that chinese game that doesn't let guys play females if its that much of a problem for you?

Collective thought has many reoccurances, and there are some that haven't actually placed their thoughts on this matter, so would you like a necro'd post (A month is not necro'd unless you have some serious A.D.D, the term is generally for REALLY old posts not a ^$#@^ing month...damnit) or would you like everyone here who had posted their thoughts on this to make a thread for each opinion after?
In otherwords just because it's been done doesn't mean everyone has done it.

And since you weren't even the one who necro'd the topic, I really have no idea why you're taking issue with it. My comments were aimed at the person who necro'd the thread.

Technically you can subscribe to threads you know this right? You needn't go back 30 some odd pages.
Before you say "why would you subscribe to such a ignorant thread" I say this. "It's funny stuff".

ever played tombraider, well then you filthy hipocrit. its a game you can play as elves too. gona hate all the people who play elves just because they are not elves in real life. its a game, your char is not meant to be you in reallife otherwise your char would have to have a negative IQ.

Well said.
The last line I think is true.
About hitting on a guy.
It sounds just so right. I love this topic. It's so full of genius I can't stand to think how it could of been lost on the world of page 30 or worse! The dreaded page 31!!
We've all played MMORPG's here, and we've all seen the way females are constantly hit on and subjected to a barrage of non stop sexual innuendo in them. It's not the type of behavior I ever participate in myself, but a great number of male players in MMORPGs do. So I can't blame real life females one bit for sometimes wanting to opt out and play male characters themselves.
But lets face facts. If you are a male and you play a female character in a MMORPG it's saying a lot more about you than you're simply tired of looking at an animated male rear end, or that you like to roleplay. To put up with that kind of never ending sexual vibe from other males there must be something about you that enjoys it. I'm not completely certain that would be homosexuality, but it sure is something that seems more than slightly weird to me.
Another thing you she-males should consider is how awkward it can make roleplaying for many of the rest of us. My idea of roleplaying might include very occasionally wanting to make a courteous bow, open a door, or perform a gallant act for a female (if I'm confident that the gesture would be well received). But thinking I'm probably doing that for some drag queen only ruins it for me. So thank you very much guys for affecting my right to make a free choice.

And what part of the term 'role playing' do you not understand then?
Quite frankly, if you only feel comfortable 'role playing' if you think the person controlling the female character in the game happens to be female in real life, that says rather more about your issues than those of the people you are moaning about. Perhaps the problem highlighted by this thread is that some of the people posting here need to feel a bit more confident about their sexuality and not worrying too much about a computer generated graphic in a game
---------------------------- Hundreds of years from now, it will not matter what size my bank account was, the sort of house I lived in, or the kind of car I drove... But the world may be different because I did something so bafflingly crazy that my ruins become a tourist attraction.

Actually, in the time that I played a female avatar I was never hit on or sent tells. Niether was I attempting to attract any attention. I just play with family, not pick up groups - so everyone knew who I was. Now what IS freaky is playing on D&DO with VOIP (voice over IP) and having a female avatar speak to you in a low male voice for the first time... Another thing you she-males should consider is how awkward it can make roleplaying for many of the rest of us. I don't role-play, no need to defend my comment here - however you've made valid points.
Yimmerans, I should have perhaps qualified my statement about non stop abuse by saying that I've 'somtimes' seen it. For example in the old days in AC1 I saw female avatars treated with extra courtesy, but I don't ever remember seeing any catcalling, etc.. Playing WoW years later I remember days in town where I was embarassed to be a man, and where I felt real life females were probably literally being driven out of the game the harassment was so bad.
Kersan, I'm comfortable occasionally roleplaying most types of storylines with any type of player. But no. I'm not comfortable whatsoever with roleplaying male/female roles with another man. Call me hung up, a latent gay myself, or whatever. But I suspect I'm not the only one.
