No way! There hasn't been a good fantasy comedy since D&D. I say it's about time for another.

I played Everquest for five years and I still don't know anything about the lore of the game.  I enjoyed it a lot, but the story didn't seem to be it's strong point.

You obviously didn't pay too much attention to quests :P.  There was lore present, and if you wanted to learn about the history of the world you could have checked out the website - they had a crap-ton (thats the professional term) of short stories.

I'm sure you are right in regards to the quests, but the quest sytem was so horrible in the game I almost never did quests unless I was sure I was going to get something decent for doing it.  Finding the right keywords to get a NPC to do something was a pain and useually not worth the effort.  As for the website I generally don't read things that aren't in the game.  I did have fun playing the game.  I just never found much lore that was easy to aquire in game.

wow I didnt think this topic would get so big

anyway I think the movie should be made by Monty Python lol

    God, almighty.

I think in all probability this film will be rubbish, lets be sure of that now as games translated to films have tended to be this way. I'd be still first in the queue to watch it though.

(by the way if it does do the surprising and is a success then wouldn't it be kind of pointless that EQ is out of date and not being able to truely capitalize on the IP)

Well, Everquest 2 is not out of date and who knows what the movies story is really based on....

Maybe its based somewhere between EQ1 and EQ2?

Whatever the story is, if it's a very good movie I think EQ2 subscriptions might rise.

I can't see much people starting to play EQ1 though, it's just too hostile to new players. There's no one to play with at low levels, which makes it very difficult and boring, and no chance to ever catch up with high level players. Even oldschool players wouldn't play for too long if they had to start out with a naked level 1 character and no money.

yep too right there. Can dream of a revamped Everquest though with less of a timesink though :p

It actually could be a pretty hilarious movie if it had stuff like that.  Sort of a spoof on the way people played the game rather than an attempt to do a serious fantasy movie based on EQ.  Of course, only online gamers and specifically people who played EQ would get all of the jokes.  But then, who else would want to watch the movie anyway?

Hehe, early in the movie they should have a scene where a guy goes up to talk to a guard.  All he gets out is "A.." and then he has an involuntary muscle spasm and hits the guard.  Then gets beat to a bloody pulp while screaming, "I didn't mean to attack!"

If the movie resembles the game then 6 people will join forces to camp a spawn for 2 hours. When the spawn finally pops the cleric will go LD, and the team will wipe. The End.

Someones comment, that was funny, I think.

Well, I always enjoy the Resident Evil movies (she kicks high) ...and LoTRO were also good fun, but most movies based on games tank.... EQ movie is most likely going to be in the latter group.

A movie about life and heroes still living in Norrath between the 500 years in EQ1 and EQ2 would be interesting.

I'm surprised it's not being directed by Uwe, and sued by Jack Thompson

MMO games played or tested: EQ, DAoC, Archlord, Auto Assault, CoH, CoV, EQ2, EVE, Guild Wars, Hellgate: London, Linneage II, LOTRO, MxO, Planetside, SWG, Sword of the New World, Tabula Rasa, Vanguard, WWIIOL, WOW, Age of Conan

I think it'd be cool to see a EverQuest movie.  I do hope they come up with a better storyline that the D&D movie and Eragon was just horrible.

Having played this game for close to 5 years also, I think it would be nice to see a movie about it.

WOW would need to make one, I thought that cinematic trailer WOW had was awesome, something along those lines would make it worthwhile watching because they can get away with anything in it.

Bezado, I might be incorrect about this but Blizzard already announced they are going to create or are thinking about making a World of Warcraft movie.  I think I had read this somewhere a drought of time before SOE's EQ movie statement.  I am not sure if it is concrete information or fodder though.

I think both movies, if made, could be cool.  I do think SOE is slow off the starting line for this project though.  Lady Vox & Lord Nagafen's relationship I think would be a good storyline for the EQ movie.  For the WoW movie I am not sure.  i do not play either currently though I have been considering returning to one or the other.  Either way I would go see both movies.

That makes very little sense considering Blizzard copied every other mmo first (EQ1 gameplay and AC2 interface are most noticeable).
