Anyone know why it seems EVERY new big name MMO is coming out in Q1 of 2008?
Such a choice is really ridiculous in my opinion seeing as how Warhammer will be the big seller based on hype alone.
I know many of you may purchase and subscribe to multiple mmo's. But is it honestly a good choice for the smaller, less known MMO's( PoTBS, Gods n Heroes) , to be releasing at the same time as the big boys?

Yes, its weird.
And 2007 have been a really bad MMO year. Al the good games is delayed to Q1 2008.
Before i knowed what to play in what order, now im only confused.
It's happening like that because the game that releases first is going to get a boost in subs. So all the devs are pushing to get it that little bit earlier, and if they cant make it come out first, they try to shorten the gap and cushion the blow. So they're pulling it ahead as far as they can without breaking the game.
Wish they were done Already...
Like you said. this year was bad..... (LotRo Was Ok for a month)
And ooh ya.. some thes are going to crash and burn!!!!
Can't wait to laugh my head off!
It is a horrible idea,
Most of people (that have life) do not have time to play more than one MMO.
And it is pretty clear it would be either WAR or AOC
If games like POTBS were released now - many people would play them , just out lack of choice.
And until "big-mmos" are released , people might be just enough envolved to stay in "small-mmo"
Like this "small-mmos" will only have chance with very limited loyal fan base
delays are becoming more and more common because the marketing/publishing groups that form the MMO team demand a fast development. they set a stupid target date that the MMO's never meet. it does however gain publicity for the MMO.
see a release date...add on 4 or 5 months
see a release estimate (Q1 2007 for example) add on half to a full year.
MMO wish list:
-Changeable worlds
-Solid non level based game
-Sharks with lasers attached to their heads
Yeah don't worry, it's not like theres any chance any of them will come out on schedule.
Nothing new , in 2002 we hoping for 2003 to become our mmorpg year, 2003 same, 2004 same, 2005 same ect...ect..., also each year we most speak about what a terrible year this has been, 2006 has been, 2005 has been and so forth.
So no not all new MMORPG come out in 2008, each and every year mmorpg's come out that people are excited or hyped about or not excited about. Nothing new to this industry. So basicly all i can say is
WELCOME TO THE GAMINGWORLD OF MMO's, where most likely almost each year we get new games, really it's nothing new here.
Well the fact of the matter is, there hasnt really been any Successful MMO since the release of WoW. (Guild Wars is not an MMO)
Game after game has failed to reach anywhere near WoW in terms of subs. Developers are seeing this and realising what the industry has become. People have had enough of crappy launches, lag and bug fests etc.
The whole idea of 'paying to beta' a game is terribly flawed and the consumer has realised that and will not put up for it. So that is why many developers have decided to push development back to Q1 2008 to ensure they produce a solid product. Releasing with lots of bugs is no longer acceptable if you intend to have the kind of success WoW has. You need a massive franchise to draw in players, promising gameplay and graphics and lag free servers for that.
My guess is they all wanted to be ready before christmas to get the christmas sales.
Then came Vanguard and showed the industry how easily you can waste $30 Million with a crap launch.
So they all polish up and hope to catch the after christmas sales.
To say the truth, I don't believe all those games will come out Q1 2008. Some will be delayed to Q2, others to Q3, latecomers to Q4. And with that I even haven't talked about those games sceduled for Q1 2008 who won't manage the 2008 release...
I don't really see AoC or WAR as big mmos, just overflated ballons of hot air. I'm waiting on the games with the production time and costs behind them to come out this quarter and 2nd quarter 2008.
Whats ridiculous about it? They are all very different mmos, not aiming at the same people. I like pirates of the burning seas look for example, it is nothing like anything currently out or about to be released, apart from voyage century and all they have in common is that they both have ships.
Someone else might like warhammer but that wont be the same type of person that likes pirates of the burning sea, the amount of freedom it offers will turn most people off. A linier game like warhammer is obviously going to be more successful but it wont matter when it is released because the fan base is so different they would probably not try the other game.
Btw whats your comment about the big boys meant to mean? last time i checked Sony is publishing both gods and heroes and pirates of the burning sea, they are the "big boys" and again even though most of the games coming out are published by known companies, they are all very different games so it wont make the slightest bit of difference if they release next to each other. If they were the exact same game then it would but they aren't, we actually get some variety to choose from next year.
Lastly people don't give a shit what your company name is, they only care about the game they are playing, Vanturd didn't fail for example because sony saved its ass from sigil, it failed because it was a shit game. No other reason, if those other games fail its because the game is crap, not because they released along side another game that is more hyped than the next or because for instance SOE is publishing.
From what games came out so far in 2007 all the games suck including LOTRO. I was dissapointed with it because it lacks pvp and is a wow clone. Vanguard had a lot of bugs from what I heard. Q1 2008 is basically is when all the games like Age of Conan, warhammer Online are coming out 2 games i'm looking forward to are coming out. I don't understand though because to me putting new mmorpg games on the market for christmas would be wise because you can make millions of dollars off the christmas crowd.
