Greetings all,
So I get this card in the mail - "CALL NORRATH HOME AGAIN ... For Free!"
Well, hey, I like free so I read on. SOE decided they wanted me back so much that I'd get all of the live expansions, credit for the time I was gone ... it just sounded like something I shouldn't pass up. So, not having my disks anymore, I downloaded the game and fired it up ... OOPS, can't remember my station id that I used with EQ2 (I've had several) ... and as it turns out, I've changed ISPs and no longer have the email address my EQ2 station pass was associated with. So I used a pass that worked and filed a request. I got back a note with a link and instructions to fill in a bunch of identifying information ... no problem ... until I clicked on the link and found that it wouldn't take the user id and password I'd used to file the bloddy request in the first place. So I replied to the email explaining that the link didn't work ... I even included a phone number. I got back a form letter stating that they couldn't except an email reply and to try another link ... which also didn't work. I replied to that message and told them that if I was going to get this annoyed for a freebie, I wasn't interested in paying for it later. Of course, I got another form letter stating that they couldn't except email replies with yet another link that didn't work. As I finish writing this my machine has finished uninstalling EQ2. Too bad, I did enjoy the game and was actually looking forward to seeing the changes. Many of my friends got the same card and were doing likewise. I blame my faulty memory for not remembering my station password ... and for forgetting how annoying SOE customer service can be.

Just FYI, for any subscription service you should either:
A)make backups of any important emails
B)register with a internet-based server like gmail
B will prevent anything like this from happening in the future.
Yeah wow, that sucks how much they protect your privacy but not just taking your word for it. Imagine you moved and the next guy got that card, they tried to contact support and convince them, or heck lets say you moved out and your brother is trying to convince them he's you and get your stuff.
Point being, it sucks when we forget our passwords or change emails. Biggest solution is what the previous poster said, get a HTML email address like gmail or hotmail. They're free and you can keep swapping ISP. As for your old stuff, bummer ya can't go back to play, hey it sucks that things turned out like this but I'm not gonna blame customer support for playing it safe and not giving out my personal info to a guy who just happens to know my account name and is trying to convince them he's me without my email address or password.
Security can be a double edged sword sometimes, but don't kill the messangers.

Sad but true.
yeah sorry, this is why i keep a static email over the years. sorry your missing out...eq2 is really good lately!
Hey, don't get me wrong, I'm glad for the 6 different questions to validate my identity ... but for the love of God, give me a link that works so I can answer them. BTW- the card had no account-related information or code so if I'd moved it wouldn't have done anyone any good. It just would have been nice if 1-the automated stuff worked, or 2-some human had been involved at some level.
true
I had the same issue awhile back trying to remember which account I had went to which characters with which expansions activated (yah, had 2 eq2 accts and 2 SWG accts and 3 of the 4 were totally different station IDs lol)
I called their customer service and talked to them about it, and was able to get all my info after answering a few key questions. They were very nice about it.
Maybe I'll give them a call ... thanks.
soe is pretty exceptional in many ways, but like the u.s. army, their administrative abilities suck ass. I'm in the process of coming back to EQ2, and if it wasn't for the end result, i wouldn't even begin to want to deal with their account management that seems to have errors during 90% of any action. You would think after making a mmo, they could easily make a web page work properly. So any way, i second the motion, give them a call, make one of their reps do the b.s.
I am gratified that there is so much done to keep accts safe.
As for your situation, if you talk to CS person for real they will fix it. I think this is true for any product.
Yeah, its best to stick with an Internet based e-mail and don't let it expire. Never used my ISP's e-mail server after my first ISP. AFter that it was hotmail and now myway.com which I have stuck with for over 6 years. Plus online friends will aways know where to reach you, since you're not changing e-mails every other friday. I'm going threw something similar with SOE only over a different game. I had all the e-mails/cd-key/original CC info though, so if I don't get my old account you're probably SOL.
