1) Haibane Renmei (Unique, but not everyone's cup o' tea)

2) Escaflowne (Great fantasy/sci-fi hybrid)

3) Cowboy Bebop (It's just cool, great ending)

4) Now & Then, Here & There (Misleading first episode, then gets down to business)

5) Twelve Kingdoms (Complex fantasy world, with the focus shifting from series to series)

6) Neon Genesis Evangelion (A classic, some people hated the ending, I liked it)

7) Tenchi Muyo (Cheesy, geeky, but genuinely entertaining - avoid the progressively worse sequels)

8) Rah-Xephon (Ok, it's a knock-off of my number 6, but it has a complex plot and some good action)

9) Serial Experiments Lain (Messes with your head)

10) X (I'm not a goth, but I still liked it - what other series has a God-Dog?)

To download stuff try WinMX (just do a search for it, it's pretty popular). With a decent connection, a popular series and an element of luck you can get an entire series over a weekend. I think in America you can actually catch a fair bit of Anime on TV as well now, can't you? Depends whether you can put up with the dubs (they're not all bad).

And I could've been a goth-reverend! Think about it - goths dress all in black and wear crosses, reverends dress all in black and wear crosses...

(and before a goth flames me, I know, loads of you wear ahnks instead)

yea but here the anime cmoes on a channel called "cartoon network"

they don't consider it ANIME, they consider it anime for kiddies

and the only good anime on our tv is cowboy bebop, trigun, and flcl, ...well, thsoe were the only good ones they have showed

the thing is, they come on at 1 in the morning, and have no blood, bearly any violence, and they're dubbed!

o man you guys are so deprived. I download anime by the boatload using bittorrent.

What is bittorrent you ask? Well looky here http://bitconjurer.org/BitTorrent/ or you can use the shadows client (the one I use) @ http://www.bittornado.com

Now for the good part. Go to a.scarywater.net and there is a ton of anime fansub sites/places to download em all.

Now all you gotta do is click on the link where the anime is shown, then when it asks what to open it with open it with bittorrent and you'll be set

Personally I go to http://www.downloadanime.org to get all my anime stuff

Also you guys should check out Naruto. My favorite anime atm, it's on Episode 90 right now and it just keeps getting better. Basically anime about ninja's. It's better if you watch it.

Anime looks okay, if you're into that kind of drawing but the storylines/plots/characters are so cliche its almost laughable.I can see why people like to look at it, but why even bother to turn the sound on?seriously.

Do you have the Xvid codec? www.xvid.org

if that doesnt work try using a different program like windows media player or I ati multimedia player sometimes. Try winamp or also realplayer.

Okay, okay, I'm going to try and not get on my high horse here. Ramadin and Redfoot think anime just flat out sucks, fair enough. It'd be a dull world if we all liked the same stuff. But judging by your avatar and signature pic you appear to have a thing for FF VII. Hey, I liked the game myself.

Where I start to get confused is that FF VII is fundamentally nothing more than an interactive anime. The visuals are anime style, the characters are anime staples, and the script could have been culled and stitched together from a dozen anime series. ::::37::

Ramadin thinks anime is "pansy" and you reckon it's "gay" so you agree that far, but Ramadin doesn't have two anime characters lodged in all his posts.

This I can't disagree with in the main because it holds true in anime the exact same way it does for live action series. Most of anime is dross that fits well into the "looks ok, shame about everything else" and hidden amongst all the crap are some good original works.

Out of all the TV shows and movies that have been made in the last 5 years, what percentage of them have you genuinely liked? 15%? 20%? If that? To me anime is no different from live action - it's all make believe, so whether it's animated or whether there's actually a guy on screen pretending to be someone else doesn't matter. If the script's bollocks and the plot's laughable and the characters are annoying, I won't watch it.

The only reason I think some things work better as animation is that a lot of the plots are sci-fi/fantasy and would require stunning (read: stunningly expensive) special effects to work if they were live action. Anyone who's watched a promising film/show knows the effect it has when in the middle of a fairly believable bit they throw in a cheap monster or bad CG spaceship. Because everything else is real, it completely drops you out of the moment. In animation the whole thing is essentially an effect, and the drawn monster or spaceship is no different from the drawn humans so it doesn't jarr in the same way.
