You know with games like lineage 2 you know what to expect, but with games like Roma victor you think you do, and thats why the dissapointment gets really worse..
I have joined RV prior to launch and though the game wasnt what the community expected i stayed up for a reasonable time waiting for the game to show its true "potential"..I dont think theres another game that it has come that the very word potential echoes in such a negative way..
There are so many things that are false about this game and its community that i feel obliged to speak about my experience in the game, one because i learned about the game in this site and two to give my side of the story for potential players that are thinking to join..
I'm not going to call upon thunders and storms of arguments to scare you off, im going to explain in a brief time why in my opinion you need to stay away from this game!
You have in one hand what the game devs say that is inmplemented, all those wonderful things you read in the forums, and you're thinking, hey maybe this is the game i was waiting for, the game that will save me from all the misery of modern mmorpgs..Wrong! You have been decieved..Its not too late tho..
Cause nearly everything they say is either missing, broken, or poorly implemented..Even new stuff they suppose to come either never come or they come after months of delay..You'd expect of course that are tested, but no, thats the player's role..New stuff of course brings new problems, bugs, crushes and everything that are too waiting to get fixed by the devs in a long list of things to work for..
By now you start really wondering if i subscribed for a beta ?..
Well for one, you are subscribed to a game that thinks that is a mmmorpg and of course one of the most fondumental things you'd expect from the devs is to inform you regurarly about what they are working, give you a time schedule that they will be able to keep, and most important see some improvement that means something..Well you can forget about that! There maybe months before a State of the World is posted, there are numerous cases where people demanded over and over again and were ignored by the devs in a regular basis..
So you have a) the devs lie about whats in game, whats not and what can be in game..Cause people think there wont be long till they see mounts, till they see archery, till they see combustion, till they see loot upon death..You have to realize that being a player of RV your one critical role and destiny is to wait, and wait untill you fed up, like so many vets have and are..Btw those things are never going to be in, or wait..Hmm with this pace, i'd give 10 years, but in that time span new games will be out, and RV will be history..
This is not a mmorpg! Hardly some people play, dont be fooled by the fanbois, or do you consider 50 or a hundred people an accomplisment? Most important is the servers cannot support it! Every time you had more than enough players logged in one area, theres a lag fest and you're losing connection like crazy..Its worse when theres a battle, and RV funbois are so proud claiming that 10 v10 battles occured before the lag kills them all..Will someone tells them that they are actually MMORPGS out there that support 100v 100 pvp battles, to mention just a number..
I think what speak for itself is the fact that the vets have nearly all left, and what is interesting is that some of them were more fanbois than the new fanbois who have taken their place..I remembered Virtus (you cant miss his posts here and in the RV forums) as a dedicated fun of RV, always in the line of defending the game against every attack and flame..You know funbois, the fun part is its all a circle, and its a matter of time that you too will be in his place..
Yes its a matter of time that you start feeling frustrating, anxious of a game that fails to deliver, worried and in the end pissed about it..
You will get sick of playing the game in the forums, reading worthless posts one after the other, cause the community is no longer what it used to be..It used to be great, no great is not the word, fantastic, was one of the things that attracted me in it, and one of the things that made people stayed a reasonable time before quitting..
But all you are stuck nowdays is constant out of character attacks wearing the mask of rpg, flames and trolling and the worst of all, a funboi attitude..
Seriously people that defended RV existed from day one, and they say the exact things you're saying now..Allthough you share that, there is a difference,they got sick and left after repeating themselves for months and months on the row before they saw the truth about RV, and now you took their place..What do you think will happen?
D )What was my reason for wanted to play RV is to play a game thats not about grinding..Well RV in the definition is a total grind fest..You spent several hours clicking in a boring fashion to raise skills in a allready poor implemented crafting system..
E )I wanted a game thats not another good vs bad, blue vs gray thing..I thought RV was different..In fact the devs made it clear its all about roman vs barbs, where the first group gets all the goodies and the latter the left overs..
One could say a lot more, but i leave it there..Pls dont delete it, it was an honest post about my experience in a game with a hope my experience will benefit others..

I agree. If you people take a look at the old threads you can see this is not just one man's opinion. Its the opinion of many.
I swear this forum has really become trash. All of this bitching and bashing of Roma Victor. ALL OF THE VETERANS have not left the game, there is a very Healthy population on the Roman side and we get more and more people everyday. It's not the DEV's fault that the barbarian community can't get their shit together to keep the interest of new players. We have gotten a ton of material in game over the last two weeks and will culmunate in the release of Guildhalls. If you want an easy game then go play LOTR Online, RV is for people who want to get a real sense of accomplishment for hard work.

how much is exactly a healthy population?? because in most MMORPGs today that would be around 30k (EVE, SWG) and RV doesnt even have 300 active players ..... not exactly what i would call healthy

. Those MMO's are also of the Science Fiction Genre, not Historical Genre and thier numbers have no bearing on Roma Victor.

actually went off of SOE's standard of "healthy"
and lol like CCP was big before they made EVE. they are an independant company just like RB. Just like Flying labs (POTBS), wich ill gaurantee will have more then 200 active players. Not many independant companies have a whole lot of subs but they DEFINETLY have more then 200. and Again 200 is being VERY generous in this game.

It's not the player's responsibility to attract and hold the interest of new people.
What's come into the game recently is crap. This is basically the same game I started testing in 05.

Has it ever occurred to you that maybe a game company doesn't do things on purpose to loose customers, maybe that this game just sucks. Move on. Trying to say that a game company might of been better if they did this or that equates to as much BS that every other game made had features they said would be in them but never got in, and you know what? Those other games are better even without those ideas that were revolutionary and got much praise.
I'd listen to Mordrid if I were you guys. I'd say one of the true veterans

This game doesn't suck. The developing team sucks. They don't know where their priorities are
well, I have just started playing again (I know, I'm a sucker for punishment.)
and I must say skill loss has improved things, along with the abundance of animals and them actually respawning, I can see myself actually building a hut in the future. The game is still in a dire state, but the devs are flooding the game with new content atm, so it's all good.
PS: I say this as another true vet, vepgenus is a noob in any real vet's eyes...
Aparently the devs not content with lying, feel the need to ban any players who give a bleak but honest outlook to a new player, while my view is grim can anyone argue otherwise? I dont deny this isnt a good game but it is full of bugs as it is, I wasnt being one sided or negative and I was banned for it, that typical RB for you, Pay your 20 quid and if your not verming get the fuck out.
Clearly RB didnt like what I had to say in a honest fashion about the game so I pmed him(this was after my first post was deleted : /), right now there are several threads on MMORPG.com showing a truthfull outlook on the state of the game, regardless of helpfull it was in the past.
and the population isnt climbing, it took a absolutely huge dive after the brittanic empire fell apart and skill decay was introduced, if any increase its seen it was by people who rushed to quit to fast and now have slowly came back.
the barbarian IRC channel I dont think has peaked above 5 people in a week now (compared to about 14 in the height of BE not so long ago. ) I understand RB needs to make money but I think its unfair to suggest this game to anyone in its current state, its not so much a bad game as it is full of bugs with a extremely low population (average users online dont even match a typical CS match
I can't believe you two above me, first Phil has been told by KFR, after being banned once then having several alts banned, that he is not welcome in the game, now he is playing YET AGAIN! How long 'til KFR susses out your new ID and bans you again? (probably as long as it takes to draw attention to yourself again with a controversial post on their forums!)
Then crackerjack2 or LordBaldur who posted that message once and had it deleted then decided to post it YET AGAIN! How much warning do you need? It was obvious to anyone that they didnt want the post on their forums so why go and put it back there? You might as well have asked personally to be banned. I don't care how fair/unfair you think that is it's the rules of the game, the way it is, if you can't get your head around that then you are going to get banned again and again!
Just listen to what they tell you if you don't want to have to pay another £20 each time to get a new account.
In fact given that you both have bought several accounts because you got banned, particularly Phil, don't you think it would have been cheaper to verm say £5 every few months and not buy a new account (£20) every few months? You would then not be able to be shot down with "put your money where your mouth is" and such comments and you would therefore have a lower risk of being banned and an overall lower cost to play the game!

I don't necessarily agree with the censorship on the official forums but its a fact of life, these forums are here for uncensored comments about the game (within limits of decency) and you would be better off to stick your gripes here. Farside's post which flags up these forums was left intact so its not like anyone has any excuse to not know about these forums and just take the official site as gospel truth. At least RB are not removing every single mention of mmorpg.com and pretending it doesn't exist, if you take both sites together and see through the various personal gripes involved there is a fairly balanced view of the game IMO.
Is Vepgenus a fanboi, of course. Does that mean this post is not warranted. I think to an extent this thread has some credibility. I think for people looking to join RV they do need to understand RV advertised does not exhist. Alot of the things they advertise are for just that, advertisement and to get more people to pay to sign up. So I would suggest doing indepth research before just taking the advertisement they offer.
They have accomplished alot for being such a small team of 4-5 guys of which only a few are active, but NOWHERE near what they advertise.
The advertisement being false is something not even the fanbois can argue with because it is blatantly so.

I AM the real Lordbaldur. The Lordbaldur that has been with you for the last year has not been the real Lordbaldur, I am. The one and only. All other Lordbaldur's are fake. The person who has been using the RV account for close to a year is long banned and extremist, ExZ "the extremist" something comes after that. Either way, since ExZ has gotten himself banned again (I find it majorly lulzy whenever RB bans any one of their players.. I mean, come on, if you're "mmorpg" don't hit 50 people online at one time you shouldn't be banning people. Anyway, I can finally tell you that it wasn't me who stuck around with this shitty excuse for a game.
...Rather, I have been playing EVE online (www.eve-online.com) for this last year and I made this post to point out that EVE does not have 30k subscribers, EVE have 30-35k people online at primetime and have 200k subscribers. What I really wanted to say was, GET YOUR FACTS STRAIGHT and don't call me "Lord Baldur" or LordBaldur. It is Lordbaldur, one word, one capital letter. Not two. It's reallly simple to learn and ones you get the hang of it you will suck less. Which is a good thing.
Also, to the op: Don't diss lineage 2 it's actually a decent game with like 2 million subscribers. moar then rv evar managed to get amirite? Anyway, just quit and start playing EVE. Best MMORPG ever released. srsly I'm srs about that.

and the welcome I get from the barbarians every time I return suggest that I AM welcome in game, despite what KFR says.
also, ExZ was IP banned for posting it on here, wich kinda makes your point invalid.
also, if I ever feel inclined to post on the forums again, I shall use my home built wi-fi antenna, wich is beefy enough to give me a fairly large selection of networks to connect to.

Yes i might be considered a newB to some of the veterans of Gamma but i sure as hell know i've kicked many of these so called Veterans asses in battle
. Also i happen to command the largest guild in RV currently with about 25 active people. So i guess i'm not doing too bad for a newb eh?

Ahh this says it all.
See this is the reason why this guy is on here, he believes that 25 member active guild (really more like 5 members active and 20 that log in from time to time) is something of note. But the fact is that 25 members is a small guild is any other game you goto. Being the fact that this game has few people playing, few vets have stayed with it. He is trying to get people to stop telling the truth (or what he calls bashing) about a game that as of now is broke.
Yes this game could be really great however, right now its broke. Its been broke for over a year, with everyone looking at it going WOW this can be something, hurry and fix these problems so we can get some fun out of the game.
Fact is Vep is leader of this guild he plays in because there wasnt many others to choose from. You have pick one of the inactives, or pick a guy that at least is playing. So you are left with Vep the leader of the noobs.
Vep about you kicking peoples butt in combat just goes to show you that this game is lacking in the way of skilled combat.
Dont you think its odd when my crafter MrDDT has died less to you then you have to him?
This game has almost no combat skill as of right now its all based on luck, and if you have grinded up skills to combat others. Nothing more. You run up click click click (right mouse as fast as you can) and hope that your toons combat skills are high enough that you hit the other player. First to hit wins.
Armor? or weapons? Dont matter all the same. Has almost no effect on the outcome. You use a spear or a sword or a trident. Its all the same, 1 hit win.
