What server you playing on? I just started back playing CoH after a couple year layoff.  I also added CoV and made a new villian MM on Triumph.

Well xD it's triumph I'm palying at and gotta say none online !

Triumph is low-pop, try Justice or Freedom. Also, Villians is not nearly as populated as CoH from my experience.

*also, there are no Villian Scrappers, thats hero-side.*

Try the search feature in game to find out who is in your zone or any other zone. You can customize to see specific level ranges and zones and who is looking for a group.

your arguement is so persuasive, so filled with knowledge and insight. You back up your argument very articulately, with suggestions of improvements and raising examples to glorify your position....oh wait, you didn't

There are many reasons why the server may be "empty".

    1) Time of Day

    2) Location of players in your area

    3) Players in door missions at time of your request / broadcast

    4) Players not replying to your request / broadcast

I purchased Villains for the base access. I have one Villain and I havn't played him in months now. Quite a few of my friends online, have done the same thing. I don't know if that is the global reason, but for my small world, it would provide one possible insight. I hope it helps!

I play on Triumph and for the most part I noticed that most of the people on triumph play CoH rather than  CoV. you are better off playing on a higher populated server. Wich would be the ones at the bottom of the list on the server listing page.

Freedom and Virtue serving your teaming needs consistently  for 3 years.

Sorry, I disagree with the person that said Justice...have a 50 blaster there and the months I played revealed a different picture for me.  There is a reason some forum posters on the official boards give it the nickname "Just Us".  In fact I cant' remember the last time I logged in that character.  Issue 11 will change that though as I finally get rid of that "super-soaker". Probably just the time of day.  I logged on to Triumph just now (4:00pm PST, 6 hours after your post), and there are five other people at Fort Darwin on Mercy Island just hanging around. I didn't go looking for any more - five is more than enough to keep me from being "the only one."

It could also be the server. Freedom always has more people, everywhere. It's currently at Medium load, while all other servers are Light load.

Virtue is the server I play on , for both CoH and Cov, both seem to be very populated. Also Freedom always seems to have a lot of people.

I find time of day makes a huge difference.  I usually log in at around 9:30 p.m. EST and find my hero server full of people.  Lots of people at trains, at Wentworths, flying overhead, gathered at atlas, long list of people when I type /findmember etc.

If I'm off work and log in during the day though, it's an entirely different experience.  For example, I had time off one afternoon last week.  There was hardly anyone on.  Peak work/school hours etc. across North America.  There were very few people playing compared to my usual experience.  Three of these few people were discussing how the game must be dead because there was no one online.  I logged on again later at "the usual time" around 9:30 EST (liberty server btw), and once again it was bustling with people and activity.  Lots of friends on, lots of team invite tells etc.

Also, on heroes I tend to get more team invites etc. than on villains.  I'm not sure why that is, but I've noticed that trend.

I've noticed that, too. I tend to play on the Villain side quite a bit more frequently than the Hero side, and it's invariably less populated over there. When I switch over to my Hero, same time, same server, there are people all over the place. It's a shame, really, because I find the Villain-side game to be better arranged as far as area placement, transportation, etcetera goes, and I really like the Villain archetypes. I guess it's just not a powerful enough draw to pull people away from characters they've had for years on the Hero side, especially since none of those Hero assets can be used to twink new Villain characters.

IMO MMO's stretch themselves with too many servers.

They need to combine the servers where all servers are like the two most populated ones (Freedom and the other one)

Nothing is worse for an MMO than dead servers, and by the sound of it (and the feel of playing on servers both unpopulated and populated) the only servers worthwhile are the two high-pop ones.

I don't care if the server has hundreds of players on it or not, IMO it's a dead server if it isn't overflowing with life. That's what MMO's are all about. WoW overflows, Freedom and the other high-pop server overflows, etc.

When the server is overflowing with players, it's absolutely amazing. When the server isn't, it's close to being a lonely piece of crap.

These companies need to realize this and start having fewer, more concentrated, servers.

Even games that cluster servers to get a higher pop (Vanguard, DAoC) are too stupid to do it right. DAoC has 4 clusters, which are all dead. What they need is ONE server for everyone. Vanguard is the same, I think two clusters. With Vanguard, the world is so big that they need as many people as possible in the servers, so they should only have ONE regular server, not two.

MMO's are suppose to be Massively Multiplayer, meaning at least a thousand, up to 20,000+++.

Anything less feels like a ghosttown because the under 1000 servers segregate based on levels, map area, % soloers, etc. to the point where you only have 3 others in the same zone, two being level 50's.

Freedom, Justice and Victory are the best servers to play because of the massive amounts of players there.
