What is nonsense?

What do you define as nonsensical? Would Galileo have been considered nonsensical? How about that guy who began germ theory; wanted doctors to wash their hands between delivering babies.  That guys eventually killed himself because he was considered nonsensical.  Should anyone be given the power to determine what is nonsensical? Does making sense only mean surviving most efficiently? Does this contradict everything we hold sacred about humanity?

Anyone who makes an unsupported argument or holds a particular view which is unsupported by a sufficiently satisfying measure of logic I tend to view as being nonsense. If you can argue for the murdering or termination of feotuses in a logical manner, then it's not nonsensical. If you can argue logically for a giant invisible teacup orbiting Mars, and at least some of your information in support of the teacup seems to be supported with evidence, then it is not nonsense. If you make a good argument which makes sense - no matter how unbelievable the argument at face value appears to be - then you are by definition making sense.

Edit: At the moment though I tend to view much of (not necessarily all of) human abortion as ancient child sacrifice to Molech where they'd throw infants into fires, and I tend to view most arguments in support of it an attempt to silence the blood of the victims as the ancients would when playing loud music that would cover the cries of the children.

Nope because in a thread about nonsense it's on-topic. Oh and nonsense is anything that doesn't make sense like his post you were referring to. Nonsense is a highly subjective term that depends solely on the person perceiving said nonsense based on their experience and ability to extrapolate based on that experience.  In other words what may be nonsense to some may make perfect sense to others.

Edit: Oh and what you got temp banned for was Spamming nonsense in about 15 new threads. If you had of contained it to one thread no one would have had a problem with it and you wouldn't have gotten banned. But thats just my 2 cents from someone that was on this board that night.

Also, he didn't kill himself. He did go insane.

`Twas brillig, and the slithy toves

Did gyre and gimble in the wabe:

    All mimsy were the borogoves,

      And the mome raths outgrabe.

    "Beware the Jabberwock, my son!

The jaws that bite, the claws that catch!

Beware the Jubjub bird, and shun

      The frumious Bandersnatch!"

He took his vorpal sword in hand:

Long time the manxome foe he sought --

So rested he by the Tumtum tree,

      And stood awhile in thought.

And, as in uffish thought he stood,

The Jabberwock, with eyes of flame,

Came whiffling through the tulgey wood,

      And burbled as it came!

One, two! One, two! And through and through

      The vorpal blade went snicker-snack!

He left it dead, and with its head

      He went galumphing back.

"And, has thou slain the Jabberwock?

Come to my arms, my beamish boy!

    O frabjous day! Callooh! Callay!'

      He chortled in his joy.

Nah, you left out that after all his proof doctors still went against his theory. That is why he went insane. I win.

I found a good example of nonsense.

Let's say this is the number of widgets in a thingamajig.

    Widgets          Probability

         1                    24.1%

         2                    25.7%

         3                    17.2%

         4                    11.9%

         5                    10.3%

         6                     2.7%

         7                     3.1%

         8                      5%

If a thingamajig is randomly selected, how many widgets would you expect it to have? (a thingamajig may only have 1-8 widgets)

And a thingamajig may only contain a discrete number of widgets; a finite integer.

Nonsense is a theory that is unsubstantiated with physical proof.

If someone proposes something exist that we cannot see, as in with the germ guy, then they need to show satisfactory evidence which i am presuming he did not.
