The GMs have never asked "How are you today?", in any of the petitions I've filed. I honestly don't think he would reply to a petition just to start a chat. So I'm inclined to believe this is fake.
Still waiting for your Holy Grail MMORPG? Interesting...
As already said.. the GM's would of seen it all before, if you worked as a GM you'd do the same thing, the GM's are there to help on in-game issues not to be a therepist, or to have a friendly chat with, they got a job to do and thousands of tickets to process every hour.
Out of a max troll score of 10 I'd score this thread.... 5 .

Most of them ask me how I'm doing, and most of them say "Good to hear it" even if I tell them my legs are on fire. I'm pretty sure their opening lines are scripted and macroed: /w $player Greetings, $player, this is GM $gmname. I have gone over your petition regarding $subject. Do you have a moment so we can discuss this further?
I'm considering writing a response script so I can file petitions automatically, without having to actually talk to the GMs.
Not so sure what the big deal is, the GM isn't there to hear your friends 'fake' cancer problem. My response would've probably been 'Why are you telling me this?' and what the heck do you really want? Or maybe, stop wasting my time with things I have no control over.
GM probably has heard it all and just refused to fall for any Tom foolery...
Theres that, but he could have said something more respectfull then "Good to hear" Dont you think?
Why would he? You already stated the person who sent it did nto have cancer. In fact it is highly unlikely that anyone with cancer would say that to begin with. So props to the Gm for not playing around with an asshat.

Ive actually has pretty down-to-earth conversations with GMs before, some are.. like described above.. probably scripted but occasionally you get a GM whos up for some side chat.
A word to note though, if you do get a GM who pulls off that "How are you today" give them a question. "I'm fine, thank you.. and you?" more times than not i've had them reply with more than "Good to hear it".

ROFLMAO!!! I hope you don't really have cancer by the way. LOL
Auto-GM, well at least we now know that Blizzard has outsourced the GMs to the same AI that controls the mobs...

evil but fun
I don't think I've ever had a GM that didn't ask me how I was doing, actually.
And they always ask if there's anything else they can help me with.
Then there is a line about feedback, etc.,...
Me: My penis is stuck in a mouse trap
GM: Good to hear it!
