Been playing the beta a bit more. Now with the new difficulty you really dont wanna wander alon in the instances. I did try donn at lvl 12 and was eaten alive.
The game does show some promises but it wont be ready for the november release, there are still quests to be addressed and well some mobs like the tree lurkers have become outside bosses with their armor ignoring high dmging attacks.
Now the mobs react differently. groups of bane actually spread out to avoid getting the aoe bomb from shotguns and other similar weps. You really need to be careful now.
I did find it funny as i exited donn in utter defeat i see both bane and allied forces teamed up trying to down some huge spider, this led to me easly pluncking the bane forces 1 by one, free kills hehe.
Now im gonna try to spend some time to find a clan. wanna group up for the quests i have for the instances that are not soloable any longer.

There is a minimum level of competence the consumer should be able to expect from a product. I have to say my standards are more in line with abhaigh's, which is why I'll be holding onto my money until the extended post-release beta period ends.
I've been a TR beta tester since June, and I completely agree with the above statement.
Since the 7/24 patch and for every patch since then it has been like watching a train wreck in slow motion. I have no confidence in the devs to meet the challenge and make TR the orignal game it looked like it could have been several months ago. I'll be keeping my eye on TR after release, but I won't be participating in the "paying beta-tester" program.

What was the 7/24 patch exactly and what was the major change? If anyone has a link to the patch notes it would be greatly appreciated.

Major changes to the way XP and kill credit on named mobs was earned. You earned full XP for every mob you hit so you didn't have to worry about focusing all your attacks on single mobs to guarantee you did the most damage to get XP.
After the 7/24 patch it became us against each other as kill steeling and named mob camping became a cold hard reality. The Bane stopped being my enemy since I was now in competition with my fellow players for XP and kill credit.
Players started spreading out to hunt mobs on their own. The camaraderie with my fellow players that I felt prior to the 7/24 patch was gone and TR just became another grind.

It really did, it changed the game dynamic from lightweight fun to worrying about if you were kill stealing .
The mob situation with the named and quest mobs was pretty ridiculous, I tried to get those overseers about 20 times until I just leveled past the quest and was able to come back and out damage the other people squatting on the spawns.
I think we all know having to OD to get quest mobs and spawns is a great way to make friends and influence people...
There wasn't a huge group dynamic to begin with, but the changes in XP as of 7/24 made it so that players were actively avoiding each other so they could keep full XP on all kills.
The end result is that the game is much more of a single player type environment with little or no reason for pick up type group play.
I felt like I was playing Unreal "The Awakening" with the big difference being that I had to take careful aim in that game and in TR it was just tab target hold down mouse button.
I'm glad some folks like it, I wanted to like it a lot and I'm pretty angry that NCsoft has allowed Richard Garriott to take them for a great big ride only to end up with a game that really feels like Auto Assault on foot.
This has become the one thread to make me actually go through the process of recovering my password, logging in, and actually voicing my opinion on a topic.
Congratulations, you've conquered my apathy. The worst part of this is, I'm not even commenting on the game, which personally I enjoy playing, along with WoW and Eve.
No, my question is this: Why would anyone who has a negative opinion of this game, lurk the forums just to talk poorly about the game? I mean, it simply doesn't make sense. If you don't like the game, voice your opinion once and move on to something you do like. Don't stay and try and convince others that because you hate it, they should too. Furthermore, it is no one's place to tell anyone how they should, or shouldn't spend their money. Everyone has different fiscal priorities than the person next to them. You're not somehow better off because you didn't spend money on a game you didn't like. You would be stupid if you did. But don't try and put people who buy a game they like, or even simply want to try out, down because you don't agree with their decisions.
However, I digress. My original question remains: Why are you even posting in the forum still? You don't like the game, okay, stop playing the beta and move on. Yes, we realize you don't think the game is ready, put your application in with NCsoft as a dev and maybe then your talent of repetitively voicing your complaints will mean something. Otherwise you're simply a nuisance.

ok wait wait wait...
tis is why you hate the game....
because now people will group to get one mob as opposed of being solo and doing killing the same mob solo. your pissed of because they did the same thing many other games have done.
While i can see that could have turned you off you could have mentioned that there are instanced areas, if one is overpopulated making it difficult to complete a quest you can head to the other.
as it seems that patch wants players to actually group and cooperate. If your already downing a mob with a few others why NOT group up if you have the same objective. How many times in previous games i offered others a group if they were in my area seeking the same mobs i was.
OH duhhh it just hit me. I bet they implemented that to AVOID powerlvling. Now mr lvl 1 noob or newb can go along tagging mobs and letting others finish the job.
Seems in the end there was a reason for it. Just like the most recent patch that improved enemy difficulty and ai a bit makes you want to group up.

actually Spinetag you are very wrong.
I'll make a well thought out post on why I don't like a game - I go into pretty good detail when I do reviews, and then 5 days later some guy with the IQ of a turtle will post "Is such and such a good game?"
and 2 days later another guy with the IQ of a turtle will make another post asking the same thing....
So really it's not me.... it's these guy's with IQ's of a turtle who keep making multiple posts asking whether a game is any good or not.
I'll never play TR, because I've read enough player feedback to realize that it probably sucks.... - thank god for these review boards and thank god for players who keep posting about how bad a game is.

This is a public forum about mmorpgs, if you do not like the discussion you should have remained lurking and blocked the posters that upset you.
You can always start your own forums and run them as you like, but unless you are really new to the internet I think you'll find that people discuss what they what to discuss and they do not feel the need to seek your approval.

If you havent played a game you should just keep to your self. unless you have played it your feedback is worth as much as a pile of turd. And perosnaly between the post that say wether its good or not the ones that say its good are more convencing then the ones that say its bad. Mostly becasue many people bashing the game have not played as much as the people supporting it.

I feel that its alright if we accept TR as an okay game for casuals, though 8 years in production and produced by Mr Lord British does increase expectations somewhat, I guess thats why some of us are disappointed.
Thats 7 years, with the game scrapped and restarted in 2004.
The 24-July patch change was to stop people just power levelling other people. So a level 42 could take a bunch of level 4 people to a high level zone and kill everything in sight. The level 4's if they did not level would just get thousands of XP per kill. After a few hours they could spend all their XP and be level 40.
So this change totally wiped out power levelling, as you get no experience if you dont damage something.
However it also makes it harder to get a killing streak going if you are grouped. So I think the kill streak multiplier should be shared across the group. I would still need to kill something to get XP, but at least when I did I would get the benefit of the multiplier.
However, I digress. My original question remains: Why are you even posting in the forum still? You don't like the game, okay, stop playing the beta and move on. You would rather we leave the forum to the fanbois?
Sorry, but someone needs to balance the rabid delusions of Garriott's sycophantic acolytes with the naked truth. If this upsets the fanbois, then perhaps the critical views espoused are probably cutting a little too close to the truth for them to truly handle (and given the personal attacks some indulge in, I can only think this to be the case).
Not only that, if the only views permitted were the unbelivably positive 'OOHWOWOMGDZTHISISTHEBESTESTUBERGAMEZ0RZEVUR' posts, people would end up getting sucked into coughing up their cash on the basis of propaganda and hype, and not informed opinion.
As it is, all anyone needs to do is cough up 5 bucks for the pre-order, play this trainwreck for a few hours and discover the truth themselves. The problems are obvious, the positives not as, and the hype? more style and spin than actual substance.
In the end, this is not the game it is being pimped as, isn't worth the money, and IMO should be avoided like the plague for at least 6 months until it comes out of pay-to-test extended open beta phase.
Ask yourself this, would you pay for half a book? a car with no engine? an uncooked meal in a restauraunt? Of course not. Then why would you willingly buy half a game? Hell, why would people think you would be willing to pay for half a game? That people do speaks more to personal gullibillity and lowered expectations.
Personally, I expect more for my money than a bag of shoddy, unfinished goods, and am unwilling to buy into the 'it'll be great in 6 months, just please stick with us and support us' nonsense. If it isn't great now, it shouldn't be pushed out the door, and certainly shouldn't be marketed to people as if it were.

Haha. Someone else found the loophole! This is the gateway I used to get into the CB for free-- glad to know I'm not the only one. And thanks for posting this. Hopefully this little secret message will open up more people to trying the game out.

still, wasting 5 bucks on the pre-order to discover the craptasticality of TR is better than wasting 60

Players started spreading out to hunt mobs on their own. The camaraderie with my fellow players that I felt prior to the 7/24 patch was gone and TR just became another grind.
ok wait wait wait...tis is why you hate the game....
because now people will group to get one mob as opposed of being solo and doing killing the same mob solo. your pissed of because they did the same thing many other games have done.

TR may not be as bad as people say it is.
but who cares?
I'm still not going to play it.
actually Spinetag you are very wrong.

Hold on Snow Leopard, imma let you finish, but Windows had one of the best operating systems of all time.
If the Powerball lottery was like Lotro, nobody would win for 2 years, and then everyone in Nebraska would win on the same day.
And then Nebraska would get nerfed.-pinkwood lotro fourms

"Too late soldier, this squad has already moved out!
But we need all the recruits we can get, to combat that Bane scum. So keep your eyes peeled and your ear to the ground!"
looks like that boat sailed
still, wasting 5 bucks on the pre-order to discover the craptasticality of TR is better than wasting 60

I do think people should give it a try again, and see how they like it now.
I probably won't pick up the game again, but that doesn't mean the game itself sucks, it is still a game which people will find fun.
The amount of people in this world, all games end up with someone subscribing or buying it and actually liking it.
So, good game, not terrible game, not the best game either, but a game with potential.
