Also: promising a fun, fast, non-grind and 100% solo friendly game and delivering a slow, painstaking grindfest that requires grouping (as of last patch before live) = BAD idea.

Let's clarify this a bit.  After yesterday's patch the game pretty much became unplayable using the same tactics you were using while EVERY mob was a push over.  Is it really such a bad thing that you can't 1 hit everything in the game?  Is it really so bad that you can't stand in the middle of 20 bane and not be in any danger?

I had more fun playing the game last night than I have at any time during beta, there was actually a bit of challenge to it.  Overall the patch was CLEARLY a step in the right direction.  And encouraging grouping is something EVERY MMO needs to do or else it will be a pointless failure.

And FYI this is NOT the last patch before live.

For all intents and purposes, this IS the last patch before live, in the sense that it is the last patch testers can actually test. If they stick to their schedule, we testers will be kicked out in less than 2 weeks, after which the pre-launch patch is applied.

As to lack of tactics: that song is getting old, son. Not everyone plays a commando. My main is a sniper. My signature Tier 4 weapon has a 80m optimal range. Currently, I can't even SEE anything beyond 50 meter, because they tried to up performance by changing rendering distances. The 4 second warm-up and 2 second cooldown on that weapon, incidentally, combined with the ONE shot before reload, make it suicide to use at any other range. The Stealth Armor I put 15 skill points in, has been nerfed to oblivion (from 75% to 25% stealth), making the careful, stealthy approach I prefer impractical. Even in the last patch, I usually had to resort to my TIER 1 skills (firearms) to survive. REAL improvement there, sure. Now getting 100m outside of a Ligo base without dying is a major accomplishment.

It is nice to see some positive posts in this forum :)

More then most other forums this one seem to have more "highly opinionated" posts.  Still with all the negativity I was beginning to think nobody on this forum liked the game.  Well except me :)

Not to say it is perfect cause it is far from it and not to say it wouldn't be better with another 2-3 months of development.  There are balance issues and there are abilities and skills that are not working properly and there is very little time left.  I think they have a hot patch coming to fix some immediate issues from the last patch and they have another patch coming 3 days before shutdown for launch.

In the last few patches unfortunately while they have added lots of content and changes I've seen the game stability go down and bugs go up.   I still have some quests that seem stuck or broken.

However they have added the crafting systems and I'm pretty excited about how they went with item mods.  With the addition of the AH it will be a lot of fun to tweek equipment and mod things till you get your dream equipment.

All this aside the game does do some things very well.

It is FUN if you like running around and blasting things to hell and feeling like you are rambo in a real war :P

The environment is more alive and dynamic then any game which makes it immersive.

The quests and story line are good and instances are great.

It is the best casual game available.  It seems really built with the casual gamer in mind.  You can get to the action immediately.  You can play solo.  Most things don't take hours and hours to do so you can readily progress in small time blocks.

Finally like all MMORPGs it can only get better :)

So I'd say for a casual player it is probably going to be fine for launch.  You won't progress fast enough in the game to run into a lot of problems before they are fixed.

For the more hard core players that like to group/raid/pvp and want to run through the game in a few weeks to the end, I'd say this game isn't going to be interesting and you would be best skipping it and maybe checking back in a year.

I myself have been enjoying the beta for the last several months, in spite of some of the setbacks and issues, and yes, I have every intention of subscribing.

The only issues I'm having with this game are stability problems, darn test servers, and a few minor bugs. I admit they do need to polish the game a bit more but hey that's why they pushed launch back . To me the game is very fun and very casual gamer friendly! I don't feel like I have to play the game hours on end to compete! I play to have fun!

Fun is something very subjective... TR is fun indeed as long as the unusual UI dont bother you, as long as you not looking for more than just shout monsters.

i played the beta for a few monthes and i had Fun.. but i wont be subscribing.. its jsut doenst offer enough depth for it... i mean its not supposed to be  jsut a mmo its  a SCIFI mmorpg... and its lack all the depth one is expecting from such a game.

the dungeons are fun but yet again doesnt involve any strategi ( just the very very basics ones).

I would play the game like i play GW.. now and then. But a subscrition for TR ? nope.

Dont get me wrong the game still have potential but potential only matter if its used.. and preferably before release  wich doesnt seem to be  the policy for TR.

Someone go tell Mr garriot that the old days where you could release a mmo unfinished are gone.. Nowdays customers want a playable game that offer enought content to keep people buzy until the nexts patchs/expanssions.

I thought this game was a lot of fun, I still don’t think this will make a good MMO.  If this was a single player game I would get it.  If I am wrong about this I might buy the game, I’m going to give it time tho

I tried playing TR, but after countless download repairs and graphics crashes, I will not be subscribing.  And don't even say it was my computer.  My computer setup more than exceeds their high performance recommendations.  The gameplay could be the best out there, but when it is unplayable on a high performance system like mine, then there is a problem.  I am not wasting my money on this game.

I'm not sure what your specs are or why you're having so many problems, but I've run this game on 2 different PC's with 2 very different specs and never had a problem with either of them.  Perhaps it's a software conflict.

It could be a software conflict.  But I have never had a conflict before on any other games or programs.  I just don't get how this game could be in development for over 6 year and they can't iron alot of problems they have right now.  I have been able to run all current and past MMO's that I have played on the highest graphics settings.  Why all of the sudden does this one game crash?  TBH the graphics were not that great from when I could play the beta.

I recently started playing TR. I started 3 days before patch and have now played a couple days after patch. I thought the game before the patch was too easy. No skill required at all. Run in a mob and shoot. Now if you run in a mob you will probably die. I am all for making the game more challenging.

I wasn't going to buy the game before the patch but now it is holding my intrest more and I actually have to have a plan to get thru mobs. I just might pay to play it.

Also leveling doesn't feel like a grind all the time. I am enjoying the the CP battles since they have been implemented. I have been in some battles that we wiped the Bane very easily and others that they wiped us. Depending on which CP you are at you can have a huge battle with multiple mobs in the area.

Still a few more weeks of beta. I will decide when it comes out.

The journey is more important then the outcome

Again incorrect, this will not be that last patch pushed out to beta testers.  We might not have it for weeks of testing, but it will be tested.

And your examples demonstrates the root of the "problem" so many players are having.  You had a SINGLE, ridiculously overpowered ability and you don't know how to live without it.  I duo my medic with a sniper a lot, and we manage just fine.. because we don't expect to be able to 1 trick everything.

Expand your tactics.. fine some friends, and you might just understand why a more challenging game is good.

Exactly WHAT was ridiculously overpowered in having a TIER FOUR weapon with 80 meter optimal range that has 1 round of ammo, 4 seconds warmup and 2 seconds cooldown? Yes, it can oneshot thrax minions. It bloody well should, what do you think a sniper is all about? With a regular rifle (TIER ONE) you can kill that same thrax minion in less time. Notice I say THRAX minions.  With a torqueshell and the exact right damage type, howlers take 3 shots, Striders 5+, Stalkers 2-3, magmonix 10+ etc. There are a LOT of mobs that cannot be oneshotted.

Which doesn't even go INTO the agro generated by the first kill, and the rest of your victim's 'friends' rushing towards you, forcing you to once again resort to your TIER ONE firearms skills.

As to your 'tactics' argument: tired, old, repetitive, very insulting. You've never seen me fight, so you don't know jack about what I've tried, tactics wise. Please assume I have at least a modicum of intelligence and flexibility.

Your teaming and 'get friends' argument just proves you're one of the group nazis. Yawn. Get a life. This game was advertised as solo friendly, not as 'move out of the base solo and you're dead'.

Your 'not the last patch' argument is frankly hilarious. Barring the occasional panicky hotfix, the devs are on a 2 week patch schedule. According to the latest release announcement, the game goes live for the pre-orders on 30 October. Beta will be closing AT LEAST 4 days before that, around October 24. So IF there's another patch on Tuesday 20 October, you'll have 3-4 WEEKdays to test it all: broken missions, missing missions, broken skills, balance issues, instance scaling, missing logos, crafting system, graphics bugs, pathing bugs, missing voiceovers and cutscenes, inventory database problems, memory leaks (server and client side), etc. etc. etc. IF the servers manage to stay up (they have this tendency to crash a lot after patches). I highly doubt there is a way to get it all tested in that short a time. Let alone fix everything that mythical last patch will break.
