are there any DOT reliant classes in the game that rely on dot's to do most of the damage and use some sort of mechanism to scare away opponents and if there is what class does this fill....... i was just curious cause i kinda fell in love with the affliction warlock in WOW(yeah i know the game is so shallow) but i would like to see if there is any class like that in my new mmo eq2???
Comments
My experience with mages are a bit limited. But, the first class I was thinking of is the Necromancer.
The Necromancer are a pet class that uses the pet for tank or dps, and uses DoT's them selves to kill the mob. They also have great utility spells, one are fear (fear in eq2 = spell that scares off the mobs for x seconds, and they runs away from the caster, and are dispelled when receiving damage).
I also do believe that the Warlock in EQ2 uses a bit DoT's, but I'm not so sure about that.

Leemeg.
Wizards have more DoT’s then any other class. However as a percentage of overall personal damage Conjuror’s and Necromancers rely on them more. Warlocks have slightly fewer DoT’s then Wizards because Warlocks have more direct damage in their AE’s while Wizards have more DoT in their AE.
Necro's are the most DOT reliant in the game, once you have lich. lich is lvl 50 if i remember right, it basically turns your life into power. in addition, the while the DOT is doing what is expected, your also being healed in return. Thus why even though a conjuror is by far the better soloist, a necro will generally win between the two in pvp.
Though necro's arent the only DOT'ers, i believe the lich cycle makes it most important and effective with them.
Necro's have alot of dots.
My lvl 33 Necro alt has.
Fighter, Mage and Scout pet who all have dots. ( can only have 1 at a time).
Plague of Rats which launches 3 rats at a mob who keep biting it till the mob dies. AKA dumbfire pets.
a Short term dot on quick recast.
a long term dot on medium recast.
a group medium term dot on a long recast.
a dot+snare which slows a mobs speed, it doesn't attack with other dots because it dispells but whacking it on a mob and then fearing the mob works.
the only DD is life tap which does dmg and heals you.
My Necro hasn't got all his spells yet and at the end game you have a few more dumbfire pet spells.
Including Undead Tide which spawns like 3 pets and +1 pet for every dead body laying around. You can get some serious tides going.
Necro would be your class I guess.
Your only lvl 33 dude, you dont find what the necro class really offers until post 50 or for any class for that matter. the dudes question wasn't the amount of dots but how reliant. yes necro is most reliant on dots but not because of your post, its because of what i stated in mine, ie lich=life turns to power, power into dots on the enemy, damage from dots into life for the lich. if you have the right food, you can maintain lich indefinitely. man, 33 is no where. at 33 the necro is still as pet focus as the conjuror, post 50 a conjuror is nothing without his pet and a necro begins to multi task, most often watching his pet die like the pansy it is. alot is going to change for your necro man. i rolled both a conj and a necro to 70.

LOL Igneus, and you were never 33 at one point? You obviously know nothing about a necro if you cant remember what lich or even archlich does. The dude is 33 and has a good idea of what the class does. There are more spell upgrades to what he has and a few new ones to play with as the levels increase.
As far as dots, you have a coil, rot and locust line...1 long timer, 1 short timer and 1 group encounter. If you're looking to load up dots like other games necros.. EQ, Vanguard ect..the EQ2 necro just doesn't do that..
70 Necro here BTW, and my arsenal of pets and abilities can take heroic mobs conjys wouldn't even attempt, thanks!

again, another failure to pay attention to the question. i pointed out that at lvl 33 and not answering the question asked the guys post wasn't useful, yes i may have sounded rude about it, if so, my apologies. I have however leveled both necro and con, i know both inside out including parse records with ATC. your bias towards your own class is not surprising. a few new spells to come after 33, are you kidding me, I went from like 2 to 5 hot bars... And since when do i not know what lich is?" 50 Lich (Scribed)
Changes the necromancer into a lich, allowing the slow conversion of health into power over time. All of the lich's disease based hostile spells siphon additional health from the target and adding the health to the lich." according to allakhazam, which is exactly what i paraphrased in a dumb downed version.
did you not post this on 11OCT07?:
"I disagree, I'm a casual player and have taken my first three classes to 22, 20, and 23 solo. Necro, Dread Knight and Bard. Soloing is very much a possibility with any class, some classes have it easier than other. There is plenty to do on the top world for soloers and the casual player. "
doesn't sound to me like your a 70 necro, and why would you mention vanguard like it could be held as any standard... But I'm not going to continue to debate crap that wasn't even part of the question.
The answer still is Necro, due to the lich spell. the guys question was never who has the most dots but who is most reliant on the dots.
for reference: Nicolae on mistmoore my main. Constanteena on mistmoore, the necro i leveled to 70, its on my wifes account.
to make EQ2 comparision to a WoW Warlock (also mentioned in the 1st post)
WoW Warlock had pets, fear, dots, shadow nukes, fire nukes (and lots of unmentioned utility)
necro has dots/ Disease nukes/ *Fear* / pet
get Feign Death at lvl 40 (works like WoW Hunter FD but longer recast)
admittadly, EQ2 necro seems to play more like a demo-specced WoW Warlock
(I'm a a 40 necro in EQ2 and a retired 70 Warlock in WoW)

Dude, you are soooo owned big time. Your telling a bloke he aint a 70 necro by quoting a previous post of his elsewhere where he stated he has got his Necro to lvl 22 or so.
Guess what, maybe you should of checked what forum he posted that in first. He was talking about his Necro in another game (Vanguard) which has absolutely no relevance to this thread whatsover.
So it looks like your little plan to belittle someone else backfired so i guess that just leaves one thing;
OMG, we finally have another person who actually tried to answer the question. I wouldn't write this if not for the fact that this is probably the best answer to the question yet. bravo!
Oh, a last minute edit due to flem's message that was posted while i was writing this. Even if i did get it wrong on his post, i got it right on everything else, i was far from owned. I also was not the one belittling, so flem, your little slam on the most insignificant part of my post with the pretty picture, just shows that you are nothing but another fool jumping at his chance to talk smack, you have added nothing to this post.

Oooh, name calling now eh. Sticks and stones dude.
When your done with your "know it all" attitude why dont you actually try joining a discussion instead of attacking other posters and making smart ass comments.
Oh, and if you have levelled a necro you wont mind posting his name so i can check it out on EQ2 Players to see if your legit or not.

Its funny, despite the fact i posted the name of the necro earlier( constanteena on mistmoore ) you still have to ask. and flem, is your post about me or you, cause personally you fit that bill. i again apolagize for my rudeness to the 33 necro, but he was talking about the little he experienced, and a lot he read. The supposed lvl 70 necro told me, and apparently every other authority on the game that we dont know what lich is. any way, the poster got his answer, a few times over. flem, if all you going to do is as you said attack other poster and making smart ass comments instead of joining in the discussion, just give it a rest, you've offered no answer to the posters question, you've only tried poorly to attack me. just give it a rest, my rudeness to the 33 necro impressed no one and i should of said it more politely, however you attacks on me are like i said, making you look foolish. man, even if you could win the argument, arguing over the internet is like the special olympics, even if you win, your still retarded.
