Never played AC, about to jump in...

jldavisjldavis Member Posts: 41

As the title says, I never made it around to playing AC back in its prime and, according to a few posts I've read, that's quite a shame for me. Anyhow, I downloaded, installed, and patched the game last night. This morning I hopped on for a precious few minutes to check out what I had gotten myself into. I made just enough time to get through the Academy before having to log out to leave for work, which I was late for anyways...go figure.

For what very little I have seen so far, I must say that I like it. At this point I've been playing EQ2, which I do like quite a bit, but I've been steadily losing interest lately and I haven't been playing it very long...

Given that AC is an older game and this and that, I am duly impressed.

Only time will tell whether or not I played it longer than the trial period, but it certainly looks promising at this point.

I started out on, and am planning on sticking with my decision of, starting out on the DT server. You know, the allure of being victimized by the longtime residents and all...

Anyhow, I would like to know what is the best way, if there is one, to get in touch with good guilds and all?

Also, if anyone else is new or starting anew in AC and would like to group up for some noob action, let me know!

Let me know how it goes. I was thinking of doing something similar.

I played AC way, way back in the day.  Its "prime" as you said.  I had plenty of characters on the different servers, but I must say that DT was my absolute favorite.  They just did the PvP right, in my opinion.  I've played pretty much every MMO that's come out (excepting AC2 and DAOC off the top of my head) and been in betas for many that haven't come out quite yet, and have to admit that in all of that time I have yet to find PvP as awesome as on good ol' DarkTide.

The beauty of it, in my opinion, was the fact that it wasn't unrealistic to take down somebody a number of levels higher than you.  The PvP there is more based on your build and your skill.  I remember starting out in whatever random newbie place, and running to this town that was located on the eastern shore of the continent...  I want to say it was called Eastham maybe?  Depressing that I don't remember.  In any case, the place was apparently "owned" by a monarchy called Blood (I wonder if they're still around).  Well, a guy that was a few levels higher than me was talking tough and telling me to leave, and he ended up dying.  About 2 minutes later I proceeded to get stomped by high thoroughly higher level buddies, but the point is that you will actually stand a chance against people roughly your level.  Don't expect to be killing people like 10 times higher than you right out of the gates, but have fun.

To tell the truth, surfing around the net has made me want to pick the game up again.  I'll see if I can give it a download and maybe I'll shoot you a message.  We can run around like idiots together. =)

Best damn MMO ever. Enjoy it and don't let the idiots ruin it for you.

Well, so far so good. I haven't gotten too far on the DT server yet, but any progress at this point is good, lol! I also created a char on the FrostFell server to get myself acquainted with that aspect of the community and it's pretty kool too.

Anyhow, for anyone else that may be jumping in/returning/bored, feel free to contact me in-game.

    FrostFell - Myrrh Man

DarkTide - Azrek (this one may get deleted, not happy with current setup)

ac is surprising. To be such an old game it's still pretty busy. I started back a few months ago and am having a pretty good time. Matter of fact, this is the 1st time I've started a new game (TR) and have not quit the old one.  hope you enjoy it

I just got back myself....been gone for over 4 years....alot has changed but I am suprised to see quite a few players running around.  Alot of the older players have free buff bots to help with the lower levels.  You can get to 20 easy with the free 2 hour buffs...so even for the new/returning player you can get a foot hold ingame day one

I currently play Asheron's Call on the Morningthaw, Frostfell, and Darktide servers.

Its all in all a great game.  I work on the staff of another fan site and have a blast participating in the community and the allegiances.

The best trick to enjoying the game the most is finding a good allegiance -- and that all starts with finding a good patron.  If you're not sure what a patron is, you can check out the New Player Discussions Forum on the Asheron's Call Official Forums site.

You can also check out the ACVault and explore their boards.

Have a great day and I hope to see you in game.
