Check out Tabula Rasa, it's coming out pretty soon and seems kind of like something you might be interested in. Maybe Anarchy Online, but that's a little old. Maybe even the Matrix Online.

I'm personally looking forward to Age of Conan, it doesn't really have anything to do with sci-fi. I don't know of any undercover spy type MMORPG's really.

I would recommend looking into Tabula Rasa or Age of Conan(even though it's not your type).

Well, vote out fantasy and FPS and you've eliminated a fair chunk of games, and chopping aliens out of sci-fi doesn't help either.

That being said, EVE doesn't have the stereotypical little green men, but it's also not a stereotypical MMO.  EVE is also probably not a great choice for your first MMO.  It's pretty brutal in terms of Risk vs Reward and it has a mean learning curve.  But if you're up for it, I'd give that a shot.

Also, don't count out "fantasy" MMOs.  There are tons of different fantasy MMOs out there and, for the most part, they're all unique.  Maybe you could be more specific about the fantasy world that you want to avoid.  You might hate WoW, but like EQ2.  They both have orcs and goblins and elves, but they're two entirely different beasts.  You've also got Vanguard, which is a fantasy MMO, but has a more "sandboxy" feel to it in the sense that you can do a whole lot.  Crafting and Fighting and Card Games.  Vanguard is a bit buggy right now, though.  Then there are big fantasy worlds that you're probably familiar with: Star Wars and Lord of the Rings off the top of my head.

Anywho, maybe another post with more specific dislikes would help us suggest some games for you.  If you've got the money, I would personally suggest doing a little bit of homework on the interwebs to find a game that you think looks cool, then just head down to your local Gamestop, Walmart, or whatever and picking it up.  It'll cost you $60 tops, and you'll get a free month of gameplay in most cases.

Depend on what sort of a gamer you are, if you like to be challenged a bit and be awarded for effort and conversely be 'punished'  for being ignorant/not prepared AND you like teamwork and intricate player interaction, then EVE online might be for you. It's a harsh world with little to no rules where anything goes, only the strong and smart survive and BECAUSE of that it filters out the morons and idiots a tad more than other MMO's.

Because of all the social interaction and the rewards for players who DO put in effort there's a lot of undercover, spying stuff and all that going on. To me that's the not so cool part of the game but there's tons of people who like it for that, otherwise it wouldn't be used so much.

It's not for everyone but to me it's grand.

The only thing I can suggest is to try different free games and free trials.  There's no way to know what you like until you try some out.

It sounds as if you'd like Anarchy Online or EVE Online, but they don't make very good starter MMORPG's, especially EVE.  There's just too much to learn.

Try out some fantasy games if you're willing, there's many more of those.  Some aren't too fantasy-like.  Games like Runescape aren't very good, but they are free and good for one's first MMO.  World of Warcraft and  Lord of the Rings Online are also both great games for first-timers and they are good games; plus they both have free trials.

    Happy game-hunting.

Welcome to the gaming community but I have to warn you, your stated preferences (and what you want to avoid) leave out much of the gaming world.   You will probably have to make a compromise somewhere about aliens and fantasy.  Unless you play second life.  I suppose that would preserve a great deal of realism.

If you are not being responded to directly, you are probably on my ignore list.

EVE  has a relatively small but strong following but to me it's about as exciting as watching soaps on daytime tv.

Anyways what kind of current games you like to play, give us some examples of games you enjoy since you pretty much eliminated everything lol.

As everyone has already told you, you'll lose a great many good games if you refuse fantasy and sci-fi games.

Eve Online would be your best bet for sci-fi realism, I guess, especially if you like spaceships and fighting other players.  It is a sandbox game in that you can pretty much do what you want and it has a great player-run economy.  The downside is that gameplay can be slow and boring if you don't take risks and extremely terrifying if you do.   It may or may not be a good first game for you, depending on how cerebral you tend to be.

For a good traditional MMO, I'd suggest Everquest 2.  Yes, it's fantasy, but it's original fantasy - not someone else's over-used intellectual property.  Everquest 2 is a big world but you can enjoy it in bite-sized pieces.  They have recently revamped every area to incorporate a series of quests for its level range.  There's no penalty for not doing these quests, but when you don't know where to hunt next, these quests are bound to lead you in the right direction.

The problem with EQII and many other MMOs out there is that they're fairly old.  Therefore, you don't run into lower level players in abundance.  You're probably going to spend a lot of time hunting alone and that's not a whole lot of fun, especially when you're a real newbie.  EQII is one of the easier games to get into on your own and it's not too difficult to get yourself into a guild where you'll have people to help you out and give you advice.
