Although I am primarily a melee player, I think spellcasting is very important. My problem with Tabula Rasa is its lack of melee. I hope AoC doesn't have that problem with spellcasting and magic. I think spellcasters are very important to the diversity in a game. It's important for melee toons to be able to aid their skills with magic, as well. From what I've seen in screenshots and videos, the game looks great. But, 95% of what I have seen is all melee and I was just a little concerned about the lack of magic. Honestly, I haven't done much research on the game so I don't really know what I'm talking about. That's why I'm asking everyone: Does anybody know if magic and spellcasting will play a large role in the game or is AoC primarily focused on melee combat?
Thanks!

Consider reading the AoC site and classes over again, there are plenty of spell casters. And Hybrid melee/spell casters. Their "new" spellweaving is supposed to be outstanding.
thanks, I haven't really looked at their site much until now. I probably should have done that. The spellcasting classes do look interesting
To answer your question, I think magic will play a large role in Age of Conan. You have classes that are focused primarily on melee, some on magic, some on ranged and some hybrids.
I think the selection of hybridclasses in AoC is good, allowing you to choose wether you want to focus mainly on magic damage with the ability to do a fair amount of melee damage (Scion of Set, Druid of the Storm, Lich) or focus on melee with the ability to do magic damage (Herald of Xotli, Dark Templar, Bear Shaman).
Of those, Scion of Set, Druid of the Storm and Bear Shaman are priests, so their damage probably wont be that great, but they'll be able to heal. You can find a full list of classes here with the class previews for those that have been released, and you can find more about the combatsystem here.
I doubt tho, that there will be a lot of magic the first 5 levels (probably none?), since you haven't even chosen your archetype yet and not every class is supposed to be able to do magic, it wouldn't make sense to give everybody some spells the first 5 levels only to remove them if you choose a class that isn't able to do magic.

- What archetype will you play?
Magic is going to play a large role in age of conan (as it does in the lore)
The reason the videos don't show it, is mostly cause at the time it wasn't totally finished.
yeah the spellweaving is supose to work kinda like a cak you lay you base then throw down to cake (marble please) then op it of with some tasty sweet ownage frosting
spellweaving looks like its going to be fun to mess around with
