If it's true that your character can use any bit of armor, any weapon and any skill, won't that just mean that 6months down the line, as players start to determine what armor set is the best in the game, everyone will look the same because everyone wants to use the best armor?

It is true that you can use any skill, armor, wep you want however, theres no point using weps or armor from classes in which you have no relative skills for. Once you get higher in a particular skill line you will find skills that require you to use the specific wep for that class and cant be used w/ just any wep you like the look of or w/e.
Armor also has class specific bonuses that to get the full benefit out of, you need to be using skills from that class type in your build. Some stats from armor may cross over but it will still depend on your build as to whether you want a particular effect or not.
Example.. You might create a build w/ only heals and buffs for an elim match ( a healer/oracle build maybe? ) Primarily for buffs heals and rezz, w/ no dmg styles what so ever, you don't need any armor that has a +8% or w/e to physical or spiritual dmg. Not saying this would be a good build or not, that will depend on player preference and style. Just a generalized example
Basically stats and effects are relative to the class/build you choose to use for a particular fight.
Whilst i predict we will see the emergence of some "cookie cutter" builds, player pref and play style will play a big part in what armor types will be used/become popular and, more predominant. Whilst there may be some look-a-likes running around i don't think it will be attack of the clones lol
Hope this helps...

Part of the fun of Fury is actually figuring out the good skill/equipment build for YOUR PLAYSTYLE. Usually players have different playstyles that they like more to play or have played more often while pvping in other games. As such, there are not "uber build/gear that everyone ends up with" but actually a set of decent builds for different playstyles that are enjoyable and competitive, probably each player will have a few for each different warzone, since the different warzones require different skill mixes to give you the winning edge.
Thus pretty much an "endgame" Fury player not only has all his skills unlocked and access to top engame gear on his toon but ALSO (more important) actually KNOWS the skill sets and has trained and practiced with different mixes to figure out what works better FOR HIS PLAYSTYLE.
The problem with that is the majority of player's playstyle is the playstyle that dominates the rest.... People like to win. Sure, there will be a couple unique people sticking to their preferred support builds, but as soon as the domination setup is discovered, you can damn well bet the majority of players will go out of their way to swap to it.
After playing in challenge, I have discovered that there are no cookie cutter builds in Fury.
Maybe some builds are better, some are worse. But not a single build has dominated the game so far.
Auran already stated that their first priority is to avoid a dominating build and actually balance the game. And trust me, I will be the first one to complain if such a dominating build comes up and nothing is done, I hate those builds in GW for example.

Osbourne Cox: I know very well what you represent. You represent the idiocy of today.
Ted Treffon: No, I don't represent that either.
Osbourne Cox: You are part of a league of morons. Oh, yes. You see you're one of the morons I've been fighting my whole life. But guess what. Today, I win.
I agree, and i just like to clarify that i am generalizing by saying there will be "cookie cutter" builds.
I cant see certain specific builds dominating as such, because there are always ways to counteract and the more balanced this game hopefully becomes the more this will stand true.
To put it a better way, i think we will see some similar builds rather than exact "cookie cutter" builds. But this will still depend on certain situations as to wheather they will be effective or not. Like my healer example above... no point using that for bloodbath battles if you want to win a fight. You might be able to stay alive the whole battle but you wont kill anyone lol
As far as a domination setup, i cant see it happening due to the fact different things work better in say, bloodbath as they do in elim or vortex, and it will also depend on the roll you wish to play in the latter arena's.
I hope that clears things up a lil... "cookie cutter" was the wrong term... appologies
cheers
